  1. The other question is are we sure this last season was a significant outlier for Dozier? Very possible he's steadily built to this and could remain high for the next 2-3 years.
  2. I think he'll be a fine coach. I still want to stab myself when I listen to him speak for more than 5 minutes. The other benefit is he's taking over a program in decent shape. Needs to supplement more than overhaul.
  3. Silva also made about 120 starts over that period. A big part of that prediction is staying healthy. If De Leon makes 120 starts he should beat that WAR mark, but it is far from certain for any pitcher.
  4. It's not excuses, it's the human condition. Our current society has provided health, wealth, education, safety, etc on amazing levels, it is still basically trending in that way, and it is still not nearly enough. No matter what they have in their life, people are still hurting and people still have problems. Might be "first world problems" but they are still problems and still very real and still very devastating. I think the primary lesson we should take of the last several years is that salvation is not coming from our government, and there is no magic political solution to what ails us to our core. It might feel good to say if some wealthy people weren't so greedy and would just share their wealth more everything would be better, but that's a lie.
  5. I don't know. For most of recorded history the vast majority of humans lived as sustenance farmers with no education and minimal possesions. Within a century there were wars that killed about 10% of the world's population. Before those wars the infant mortality rate was pushing 50%. 150 years ago we had state sponsored slavery. Things got so good so fast we still don't know how to properly respond. I'm not saying we live in a perfect society by any means, but we do need to have some perspective. It would do all of us some good.

  7. This is true to an extent, it's the reality of a fallen humanity. But in other ways it is important to remember humanity has never been better in better shape. We live longer, healthier, wealthier, more educated, less likely to die a violent death. These are all trending in the right direction. Remains to be seen if some of the recent trends are a hiccup or the start of a change of direction for the worse.
  8. I agree. I think De Leon and filler is not nearly enough. That's what I meant by mitigating risk. That happens through additional prospects. I would not plan on De Leon being that.
  9. Mlb isn't updated yet. But Jay still is probably a top 10 lhp prospect at the moment (I think mlb breaks down by handedness). De Leon is a good deal better than Jay.
  10. If De Leon becomes a legit 2 and stays healthy, that is easily a fair trade. But there has to be more coming to the Twins to mitigate the obvious (if occasionally overstated) risk of De Leon relative to Dozier.
  11. Someone else will have a link, but Sickels just graded him a A/A- which will put him as a back half of top 10 pitching prospect in baseball. Seems a little too high for me personally, but not *that* off. And Sickels thinks he'll be a 2 or really strong 3.
  12. Finally listened to as much as I could handle after reading the quotes. It was worse than I could have possibly imagined.
  13. "I eat difficult conversations for breakfast"
  14. I agree on good things for Buehler, would love to get him. For Alvarez, I just can't rate Low A pitchers that high, though I would certainly take him.
  15. Sickels went De Leon, Bellinger, Alvarez. Thought he was a little high on JDL and surprised he was ahead of Bellinger, but not surprised he's ahead of Alvarez. I would personally much prefer JDL to Alvarez, possibly Buehler over Alvarez too.
  16. This has me excited too. Losing a bench guy, bringing in 2 legit guards, and the 18 and 19 Minnesota classes are really strong.
  17. I'm setting my expectations a little higher than beating out ndsu for some recruits.
  18. Wisler seems like a slightly worse version of Gibson. Maybe he'll put it together better than Gibson did.
  19. Projections like ZIPS are usually accurate in the aggregate while less reliable in the specific, especially for young players. Good to see a little bit of a rebound, maybe 20% chance to compete was a little light...
  20. Blair and Wisler were floated by MikeB, not from the Twins. I would doubt they would be a significant part of a trade. I just don't buy the Braves giving up a lot for 2 years of Dozier at this time, doesn't make sense in their rebuild cycle. Brandon Phillips was a potential stopgap, not a heavy investment.
  21. I'm pretty meh on Fleck but he's a fine hire. And I'll give the administration credit for identifying their target and getting it down.
  22. I suspect this is one last effort by the Twins front office to get the Dodgers to budge.
  23. Can we actually be somewhat optimistic about this team?
  24. Looks like Tucker Carlson.
