  1. I'm still going with the Administration being fundamentally too inept, combined with general government inertia, for anything all that bad to actually happen. There are competent, patriotic people at Defense and Homeland Security, so that will also help avoid a catastrophe. And the Rs won't go along forever.
  2. I assume they'll just stop with the White House briefing. Probably better for the press in the long run in dealing with this Administration.
  3. I think on this issue a large amount of people aren't paying that close of attention or don't know much, so they go along with their political "team". That is why it is important to expand beyond straight, typical partisan divides by co-opting some of the language of people who would not be allies on other issues. Pull enough away and it ceases being a partisan issue and actual action takes place. But that action does have to laid out. This is all much easier said than done and I don't have a great idea how to do it. But I just shake my head at the current tactics.
  4. Some people even do both.
  5. Based on other comments, I think Law really values depth in making his rankings. Twins have that.
  6. Concur on the DR poverty and the hope that it allows for some outreach opportunities. Or at the very least, plenty of organizations go through, should be an opportunity for partnership.
  7. I do, but my reach is currently limited to my congregation and my friends/family.
  8. And absolutely jobs are a really sticky problem.
  9. I think a start would be to marginalize the hucksters and stop the shaming. Hucksters lead to easy (and accurate) hyprocrisy charges, and shaming leads to hostility of future allies. Obama's policies were good and right, but they don't exactly inspire a ralkying cry.
  10. And obviously I'm biased due to my profession, but I really think liberals/Dems make a mistake when they don't co-opt faith language and traditions for progressive causes. Obviously won't work for all issues (ahem, abortion) but this issue strikes me as right in the wheelhouse.
  11. Anecdotal, but I live about a mile from the rally point in St Paul and I've seen about 100 people walking by and the streets are jammed with cars with people looking to park. Goingto be yuge. Good.
  12. On a side note, I've always thought the way people try to move the country politically regarding climate change has been a fiasco. First, there have been doom and gloom predictions that are easily checked and have not come true. Ruins credibility. Second, there has been little effort to co-opt low hanging religious language and commands to care for the earth. Keeping at arms length potentially allies. Third, not being expansive enough to being in conservative conservationists. Again, limiting the allies. Fourth, and most important, the debate is happening on the wrong terrain. The debate is not whether or not it is happening, that is easy to "refute" and results in people banging theit heads against the wall with no progress. The goal posts need to move, the debate is what does the country need to do. A few easy, simple solutions wrapped into slogans.
  13. Clearly a small sample size.
  14. Lots of middle class white women marching today. That absolutely moves the needle. Technically it's not *doing* anything, but it's the start of a lot of political pressure to blunt some of the more extreme aspects that could come out of the current government.
  15. By this standard not sure anything would be satisfactory. I think marches, phone calls, volunteering are definitely a start.
  16. Anonymous: Of all your farm system rankings, name a couple of systems that have the best group of reliever prospects. Klaw: Twins come to mind immediately. Chargois, Reed, Melotakis, Burdi if healthy, etc.
  17. There are going to be huge protest marches today. I'm related to some who are going and have never taken part in something like this in their life. I suspect there will be lots of exchanges of emails and other information there. That's where the grassroots starts. While technically it doesn't do anything, it builds solidarity, allows people to realize they are far from alone, and sets the stage for future action. And in a very real way protest is speech.
  18. Clearly we'll be talking about how surprisingly good the Twins are playing.
  19. This is the first system rankings I've seen. I'll post as I come across them. Fangraphs is traditionally the slowest, and I imagine that won't change this year.
  20. You have to start somewhere. Hopefully the opposition can take the energy, organize a little bit, and clean the Rs clock in 18 and Trump in 20. But you have to start somewhere.
  21. Few things in baseball have a larger gap between meaning and the weeping and gnashing of teeth surrounding it than the opening day roster. If Berrios and May perform they'll get plenty of big league starts.
  22. Especially true about May. Berrios is more likely to go down no matter what.
