  1. Ideally they trade him but they really can't force it if the offer is not there. Keeping him into the season is not a disaster.
  2. I think the EOAA wanted to humiliate the football team and the school leadership went along because they want to dump Claeys. It was an awful situation turned into a farce, the theme of Gopher athletics.
  3. Israel built a wall and created a de facto border and it changed nothing. A big Palestinian problem is that the rest of the Arab leadership wants nothing to do with them. They are pawns to rally the base and stay in power. It is not just the US and Israel.
  4. Bad trades are how bad teams stay bad.
  5. Plus good chance he doesn't t stay healthy. If teams make their final offers and it isn't enough, Dozier isn't going anywhere until the summer at the earliest.
  6. If I didn't say it I endorse it. Though I do wonder if that offer is now off the table, especially in the context of aggressive settlement building. In a slightly related note, is there a more worthless organization than the UN? The frequency of anti-Israel resolutions are a joke (though I do appreciate a parting F U from Obama to Bibi). Digging into it a little more yesterday I was reminded that UNESCO passed a resoltion in October stating that the Temple Mount had no connection to Judaism.
  7. Correct, mixing up my mid 90s dumps.
  8. I think Terry Ryan said that was his most memorable trade in his career. If I remember right he had a strict order from ownership to cut payroll to a certain level so had absolutely no leverage. Ends up shedding the salaries and gets slightly more than a bag of balls.
  9. Is LEN III suggesting the Dodgers have only offered De Leon for Dozier straight up? The article is a little ambiguous but that's how mlbtraderumors reads it to. If so the Twins can't do that and don't really have to think hard.
  10. I generally agree with this too. I think Dozier will be worth at least a De Leon level prospect at the deadline even if he slides back slightly from his pace last year. There might be some loss of value of secondary pieces, but if the Dodgers are balking at that now, what difference would it make to wait? Though if Dave's source is right, does seem the Twins should ultimately take it even if they can't get the 3rd piece they want.
  11. I basically agree with you, I was more thinking of alternatives if the asking price for Dozier isn't met. I especially think it would take some really good fortune or impressive moves to solve the pitching. The Twins might have more there now than last year showed, but they are still obviously a ways away. The other thing I would say is that while there is always risk, I would feel pretty good about investing in Dozier for the next 5 years. Even if he can't stick at 2b, I think he could slide to 3b once Sano moves. I wouldn't be too quick to move Polanco if he can handle ss in the short term (though I'm skeptical). The best move is still to trade Dozier, but I wouldn't settle. There are alternatives.
  12. The flip side is De Leon could have his shoulder injury flare up, Stewart living up to his 4/5 billing, Dozier having another solid season and a couple other teams with 2b needs. Not all that likely, but a worthwhile gamble if they aren't getting the offer they want. I prefer a trade and agree this is the best time to move Dozier, but I do support not making a move if they don't get the offer they want.
  13. I'd consider a no trade if he took it.
  14. They would know that a team that has been terrible for 6 years just traded a 40 hr guy for prospects. Would take out the one bright spot. It's still worth it for the Twins if they make a good trade. But a bad trade is a disaster, especially if the young guys start to pop next season.
  15. I offhand mentioned it earlier, but if the Dodgers won't meet the price, what if the Twins extended Dozier? Would adding 3/60 to the current contract be enough? Would time out nicely, big money kicks in when Mauer comes off the books and contract would end right when Sano and Buxton hit their free agent years and would theoretically start to get expensive. Opens a nice 5 year window if they can sort out their pitching.
  16. No trade would absolutely not look worse for the majority of the fan base in the short term. Ultimately the only thing that matters for fan interest in the long term is winning, but trading Dozier for prospects will be a hit to casual fans in the short term. So a bad trade is the worst of all worlds, short term hit with no long term benefit.
  17. Agree with this. Nothing wrong with acquiring assets of any type.
  18. I don't really agree. All accounts (or at least interviews that I read) indicated that they came into the meetings ready to deal, laid their best chips on the table and said have at it. And once the first chip (Sale) is traded, that leverage is gone, yet they still got what they wanted for Eaton.
  19. This wasn't going to get fixed either way. Best they can probably do is sign a closer, take a flyer on another starter, perhaps sign a veteran 4th OF type and hope you can scratch together a rotation and that the young bats take a leap. If not, you move guys at the deadline.
  20. It has less to do with a pretense of competing and more that Sale is much more valuable than Dozier and every team is a possible landing spot for a SP. The market for Dozier is so narrow right now.
  21. But those are contradictory points. Don't take what is offered but also you must trade him?
  22. If you put yourself in the box that you have no choice but to trade Dozier this offseason you are setting yourself up for not maximizing your assets. Injuries and poor performance happen across the sport, and if Dozier backs up last season again you would have a more valuable asset (assuming there are landing spots). Dozier is much more valuable than Polanco, and rightfully so, but you can probably flip Polanco for a young starting pitcher. He would have more value to someone like the Phillies or Braves who kicked the tires on Dozier but are looking for a longer term asset. And they lost 100 games, but they also won 83 the year before and they have high beta youngsters. Not likely, but not impossible, especially with much of the rest of the division coming back to them.
  23. Try to compete the next two seasons, sign an extension, move him at the deadline, trade Polanco instead. All kinds of options if you aren't getting the offer you want.
  24. If they aren't getting what they want I'd leave it too. I suspect the Dodgers aren't changing their offer.
  25. I'm aware, but it is usually executed a little smoother with willing co-conspirators. It probably doesn't matter all that much, but they are stuck now. Take the Dodgers offer or go home.
