  1. Going after John Lewis now. I can handle disagreements on policy and priorities, but I hate this man in a way I didn't think was possible for a President. My compassion and understanding for those that voted for him plummets by the day. And he hasn't even started.
  2. My hope is breaking contact does them both good. Dodgers poke around at other options, see nothing that really works for them, they come back and hammer out a trade. They are at an impasse at the moment, but doesn't seem like there's any animosity.
  3. Perhaps that good assessment and scouting has led them to a position that what is being offered in addition to De Leon is not enough. I appreciate the downside of keeping Dozier, but it also doesn't mean that the Twins should take on the extra risk. If the Twins are asking for Bellinger too that is way too much, but I do find it kind of surprising that there can't be a middle ground. On the one had, as you have stated, it is a failure for the Twins if no trade is made, but on the other, what can you really do?
  4. I wouldn't say this, but would say there has to be something worthwhile more than De Leon, which I think even you agree with, to mitigate that significant risk of either injury or the fact that he just doesn't pan out.
  5. Because Dozier isn't a pitcher and has averaged about 153 games played over 4 years.
  6. Maybe, but I'd be a little more charitable to the Dodgers. I think they see him as a piece that is nice to have, but does lack an elite ceiling and is expendable within the organization. And they do have to give something up to get someone as quality as Dozier. I like De Leon, think he is an acceptable centerpiece, but is not enough on his own.
  7. Interestingly enough, Buehler is not on BA's Top 10, but I would put him 4th on my personal want list (Bellinger - De Leon - Alvarez) in a trade.
  8. I think this is true, but it is probably a less than 50% chance De Leon is a #3 quality for 6 years. Like any pitcher there is such a high probability of injury or just flaming out (though, to be fair, some chance that he is a really good #2). On the other hand, it is a near 100% chance that Dozier is a good to really good to near elite 2b for those 2 years. That would be a tough wager. De Leon probably wouldn't make 20 starts.
  9. This makes sense to me too.
  10. Perfect timing with Mauer coming off the books.
  11. Future supreme Court picks, not Cabinet.
  12. It's just going to get worse. Every day, all the time, until the party apparatus stands up to him. And then it will get ugly.
  13. Absolutely agree on Bellinger. I personally think De Leon and Alvarez is about right, but would be open to some of the other options.
  14. Not just Twins fans. Many national guys in chats that have been posted here disagree with you. They might not say "lowball" but they say not enough. EDIT: After I quoted, saw you added more. I don't agree with others who say De Leon and Alvarez is a lowball.
  15. Gigantic probably overstates it, but keeping Dozier is absolutely a risk. I would prefer a trade. But the rumored offers strike me as too light. As I said earlier, keeping him for now is not a disaster, but a bad trade is the worst of all outcomes.
  16. That I agree with, but I don't think the Twins would have to limit the return to only a mlb ready pitcher.
  17. You don't think another team could need a 2b some time in the next 2 years?
  18. Should be rendered moot by normalized relations, assuming that policy is continued.
  19. He could lose value but his market could also expand significantly. Lots of outcomes. If Dozier performs similarly to last year I think a De Leon type will be on the table again.
  20. There are more potential outcomes than listed here.
  21. Probably true. Which is why there's no trade.
  22. The leverage is they don't trade him and the Dodgers have a worse solution. It's not ideal leverage but it's not zero.
  23. I have never accepted that premise. Not trading him now does not preclude a future trade. But keeping him is still clearly better than making a bad trade, that has too light a return, and doesn't make the team better in the future. A trade is not automatically a win for the Twins in the future. De Leon is not a sure thing. If there is no trade, winning more games season to season is always a positive, even more when there has been such a stretch of lousy play and they are trying to break in younger players into something of a winning situation. They can also extend Dozier beyond two years. And of course, all of this has been discussed many times over. None of the basic facts have changed. For the right price trading Dozier is a good move. Short of that, keeping him is not a disaster. And a bad trade is the worst of all worlds.
  24. Where are they getting the second pitcher in this scenario? And over that time they would again be short a middle infielder. The team will be better next year just by returning to the mean, but trading Dozier for De Leon and a prospect or two that won't significantly contribute over the next two years isn't going to make them better over that time frame. Doesn't mean it's a bad move for the long term of the franchise.
