  1. Not sure why WBC is the problem. Probably more he was pushing harder too early to try and earn a spot in the rotation.
  2. 8 years ago Dems had President, filibuster proof Senate, House, majority of Governors, State Houses, etc. The country didn't change that much, things just go in cycles. Dems didn't do much for non-college educated whites over that time and got smoked. Work hard in the mid terms and nominate a better candidate and they'll be fine in 2020. It's not like Trump is all that popular.
  3. This is why you keep as much depth as possible as long as you can. Bummer for May, but perhaps he was broken for a while.
  4. They do have some depth too. I wouldn't be surprised if Gilbert and/or Hurt have a moment or two this weekend and in the tourney.
  5. It's also a preposterous statement for anyone even pretending to be a Christian. And I generally think he has sincere faith, to the point any politician can. On your second point, I really disagree. Pence is slick and would be able to pass legislation abhorrent to liberals, but it would still be done within a legal and generally accepted framework of our system. If he went too far, that could be a rally for Dems im the next election. That stuff swings back and forth. Trump is way too high beta on his actions and competence, and the damage he has done is not going to be undone through legislation. He is a unique menace to the future of our country.
  6. I really, really doubt Pence would say something like. He has plenty of atrocious positions that there should be little reason to make something up.
  7. I think all teams generally handle young pitchers very similarly, and for good reason. I'm probably in the minority, but I never thought roster management of available assets by the Ryan regime was all that much of a problem. They were just really bad at talent acquisition, on all levels.
  8. The article also hits on the two major market distortions in healtg care, the *very* inelastic demand curve and the general lack of information from consumers. There is a system that would potentially allow for a smarter mix of free market and government intervention, but we are far from it. I would personally advocate a universal coverage scheme with more options/competition in supply. Service prices are generally capped, allowing for innovation on supplying services, but also allow for some premium services on top of that provided for all.
  9. I think the reason for these are that they are fundamentally public goods that provide value to society beyond the individual served. A really strong economic argument can be made, but it is a little harder to make clear and concise.
  10. I doubt Berrios would be first one called up if it is only a start or two, that would be Mejia or one of the AAA fillers. But a longer term injury or demotion would be Berrios, assuming he is performing.
  11. Yes. I would be quite stunned if all three make it out of April unscathed. But there is also a pretty good chance that 1 or 2 of them pitch somewhat decently.
  12. 50/50 is extremely generous.
  13. In 2016 AL teams used an average of just over 10 starting pitchers per team. The need for a 6th (and 7th amd 8th...) will come quick. Few things are more overrated than the 25 that break camp and few things are more underrated than starting pitching depth.
  14. I would emphasize your ladt sentence. I am pushing him a little, but mostly as a pushback against dismissing him. I would personally go Greene right noe, want to see more from the college arms.
  15. That's true, it probably depends on competition week in, week out. I wasn't necessarily thinking a direct translation of stats, more that an elite major college player should be able to hold their own in Hi A.
  16. Don't have an answer to your direct question, but have traditionally thought major college would be equivalent to Hi A ball. His k rate is high (perhaps too high), but good sign is that his k/bb rate has significantly improved while also adding power compared to previous season. And from what I can tell he is keeping his other highly regarded tools. But it is also less than 1/3 through season, so things can obviously change.
  17. This is still very much just the beginning. What a time to be alive.
  18. I don't approve, but does seem relatively standard Republican prioritization. If liberals don't like it, win elections.
  19. Maybr it's a matter of degree, what's a "huge" increase and what would be a change to health care under this definition? A bet I will not take is tax cuts and deregulation. That will happen
  20. He's improved his k/bb rate by a solid amount, hit for more power, and even with a really low babip, he still has a OPS north of .900. This is combined with really good athleticism. I share the concern about the k rate, but if the power improvement is legit, and if the improvement in k/bb is real, it is something that you can live with. Lots of season left to see.
  21. I'm not so sure the defense spending will be that huge, or if a health care law passes. That's where the Carter comparison comes from. The change to EPA, while horrendous, would probably happen with any Republican, and would be reversed if the Dems win in 20 (or God help us 24).
  22. True. Not a comment on their character but on the legislation that will be passed, even with control of Congress.
  23. You sure Kendall isn't hitting? He is very much in play for #1.
  24. It's not a sexy comparison, but the comparisons of Trump to Carter seem more and more apt. For all the bluster and energy, seems very likely that minimal legislation will be passed.
  25. If the economy is still as is and the Administration can avoid an outside crisis (or handle it acceptably), the mid-terms will be a rock fight. If the economy turns or there is a bad response to a crisis, it will be a landslide.
