  1. You really think Berrios isn't going to get a whole of starts in the bigs this year? I know it's all we have right now, but the opening day roster is extremely overrated. It's a different game than 35 years ago.
  2. I suspect Duffey is the #5 starter on opening day.
  3. I think the main mistake was signing Belisle instead of trying for one of the rebound closers. Leaves the bullpen much weaker. Pressly, Rogers and Kintzler are by no means great, but they are representative setup men. Add a long man, a second lefty and then hopefully someone emerges for the last spot (ahem, Chargois) to go with the closer and you can scratch a pen out of that.
  4. I guess I don't know what else you are looking for. Molitor seems to be expressing a talking point that would have been decided by everyone.
  5. Molitor is the public, day to day face of a group effort.
  6. Would be nice if he struck out a little less. But it would have to be a titanic disaster of a season to even consider sending him to AAA.
  7. I would go: Kintzler Pressly Rogers Belisle Breslow Wimmers Haley
  8. It would stun me if Falvey and Levine were as hands off as you suggest. The might give a little extra weight to Molitor's opinion that they might not in the future, but it is their show. Probably also a massive mistake to assume the moves you disagree with would be different if only Falvey and Levine were making it instead of Molitor.
  9. Hughes will get 3-4 starts in the bigs to start the year, but I don't think his leash will that long. If his velo doesn't recover he'll get bounced to the bullpen or the DL. But he is going to get a handful of starts.
  10. I mostly endorse single payer, just don't think Medicare for all is the best iteration - though I concede it might be the most realistic political option at the moment. I personally would have extensive coverage for those under 18 and would drop Medicare to 55. In between (18-55) I would have state supplied catastrophic coverage, along with coverage for routine physical examinations and screenings. I would also have sate supplied maternity care from conception to 3 months after birth. For those that develop chronic diseases/conditions, I would have a public option for continuing care (to also cover disabled, mental illness, etc) that would probably be similar to Medicaid. I would anticipate the majority of these services would be provided via a single payer scheme (speciality clinics for check ups/screenings, maternity, etc). Beyond that, I would have the option for private plus up, in order to either receive higher level of care for basic items covered above, or for providing true cost insurance for unexpected costs that would otherwise come out of pocket. There could be a public option for this coverage as well.
  11. I don't think it's a Trojan Horse, it's just basically meaningless. Insurance is still local, so each insurance company (of significant size) has a state "brand" of the larger umbrella organization. So for all practical purposes interstate competition already happening, just under different local names.
  12. Also looks like Bernie Sanders will introduce "Medicare for all" which probably isn't a great idea overall, but is at least a start.
  13. So Boshers isn't making this team, eh?
  14. I would be a little surprised if Mauer hits 5th, but if it bumps up Polanco I can get behind it.
  15. I'm in favor of a week or two of celebrating upholding a good law and mocking the dumpster fire. The time for new plans will come soon enough. In fact, Clinton had some ideas ready to go on day one. Dems can start with them. There is still space for a bipartisan maternity leave for example.
  16. I still think the Hunter floor, Mays ceiling applies. Injuries really set him back.
  17. We should start a collection of all the banal things the Twins do, similar to all other orgs, that result in a post with "only in the Twins org would..."
  18. Out of curiosity how did they define "committing to rebuilding"? Seems that would be nebulous enough to finesse the data to come up with whatever conclusion you want.
  19. I'm very high on Pressly but don't think much is gained by locking up a middle reliever.
  20. Don't get me wrong, I don't think this ends well for Trump. I'm not sure the next President will be as quick to pardon him either.
  21. I see your point on Hughes - he does have the benefit of being a veteran and having a guaranteed contract. He is coming back from a very serious injury, so they are probably not counting spring as much as they would with others. He'll have by far the shortest leash of the 4 veterans, maybe only 3-4 starts. If he can't perform he'll go on the DL or get bounced to the long man, and one of the young guys will get their chance.
  22. I don't think you can even do that do a reliever except on really rare occasions. Once a reliever gets warm really quickly and isn't used, he can't just sit down and warm up multiple times before coming in. Recipe for injury. He either comes in that inning or starts the next one or isn't going to be available that day and often not the next day either. That is not a sustainable use of reliever resources. That is why roles develop, either by plan or organically.
  23. I would lock up Buxton if he was willing, but I would wait on Sano. Wouldn't touch those pitchers. There's a reason May would be a discount, not a sure thing he ever pitches again. I would still consider Dozier if it can be limited to 3 additional years.
  24. Important not to forgot that Trump and his family has already made hundreds of millions, if not billions, from being President. I wouldn't say that his inability to pass legislation that he doesn't care about means he is a failure.
