  1. I mostly agree. I do think he is downplaying the run prevention situation a little (due to significantly better defense) and I would leave a little space for positive regression for the lineup. But yes, the pitching is set to regress negatively unless Berrios is a hero, Gibson rebounds and returns, and the young relievers come up soon and dominate.
  2. This isn't just Molitor's decision.
  3. It's likely typical or a disaster.
  4. You basically say it, but the big change I noticed this year is how they are maximizing the 25 man roster. Not hesitating to move guys up and down (despite limited players with options) and keeping the pitching staff fully backed up so they don't get into innings problems, and not worrying if guys here for extended times without pitching. They've done this with options, DL, Bereavement List, using all the tools they are given. The old way was infuriating over the past several seasons. Just seemed too disorganized and reactionary.
  5. I agree there is a decent shot the young bullpen arms can come up and contribute in the second half. Not sure I agree on Mejia going forward. Hughes is not fully healthy, but does seem to know what he is doing, and will usually give a competitive start, he will got rocked on occasion though. I still have most hope for Gibson for some reason.
  6. I think it is safe to say the back of the rotation and half the bullpen can qualify as bad. But the everyday lineup does not have a whole lot of bad, which does help game in, game out.
  7. Of course it is reasonable to question the scouting. But to call something a disaster probably needs more evidence and context, otherwise people will rightfully question your conclusion.
  8. I come across "pitch to contact" about every other week from quotes from other teams, especially pitching coaches. Always gives me a chuckle.
  9. I don't agree with that. Other teams on the same level with the same resources are plenty successful, and likely don't draft all that better than the Twins. I'm not sure our drafts have been a disaster. They certainly aren't great, but are likely somewhere in the middle, maybe slightly below what would be expected. It is other methods of talent acquisition (cough, trades, cough) that have set them back relative to similar franchises. On the last note, I think they can keep pretending they are competitive at the moment. They have a very solid, emerging offense that can carry them. There is probably only one really good team in the AL (Astros), and the rest of the teams have plenty of holes. To say the Twins have to blow it up right now really understates the potential of their everyday players and also overstates the position of the rest of the league.
  10. Any sense of how this hit rate compares to other franchises?
  11. None of us know what to make about what this hangman guy is saying.
  12. I try not to take the words of one troll too seriously.
  13. Lame way to try and raise your profile. Usually backfires, if anything.
  14. He had qualities that served him well in the Metrodome days. He got out at the right time. Should have stayed out even though his successor led the franchise into collapse. It wasn't Ryan's fault.
  15. I'll go Gibson too, unless he really looks terrible in his next couple of AAA starts. I hope the days of Tepesch and Wilk (and the like) are over unless there is no other option.
  16. Just seems so anecdotal in the approach. It's not like there is a shortage of TJ for people who don't have those mechanics.
  17. Perkins had legitimate value, everyone else mentioned was bringing back some depth pieces. It would have made sense to move Suzuki and Plouffe, but the value wasn't going to be that high. Maybe they could have gotten lucky.
  18. Perkins is the especially egregious one on this list. Suzuki pre-extension would have gotten something too. I'm much less offended by the other three. Part of the bigger problem is most of the pieces they did move didn't pan out.
  19. I wouldn't worry about this. For him to get set down again it will have to be well earned. There's no one pushing him.
  20. Also possible/likely that Pressly rebounds a little. I still have hopes for him. They may be able to scrape together a pen yet.
  21. It would really help if Chargois would get healthy. They'll wait a couple more appearances with Burdi, but he strikes me as someone they'll jump from AA. Melotakis probably needs some AAA time. If needed they should also be able to pick up a reliever or two for relatively cheap at the deadline. But would be too expensive at the moment, unless they have a fortunate waiver claim.
  22. Winning is not as fun as making trades. The Twins have obvious holes, but every team in the AL has holes.
  23. Reports are he hit 97 and was electric overall. Take him. Plenty of upside and has a chance to be in the rotation by next year.
