  1. The Yankees were never in the SS market, they've been pretty clear they are saving that spot for a couple of their young prospects. They wanted a placeholder and IKF fits that. I don't think this team is done reshaping this roster. And when a team is as bad as the 2021 Twins were....why would anyone want to roll out with the same people?
  2. I think Urshela is an upside swing. 2019 and 2020 Urshela is worth Garver and Donaldson by himself. In fact, that'd be a steal. If there is more moving with him I'll reserve some judgement. But yeah...that's a huge win.
  3. If Urshela is the 2019 and 2020 version....I think I really like this trade. It's essentially Garver and Donaldson for Urshela and Sanchez. We save a buttload of money and I think we're a better team for it. I don't think this team is done wheeling and dealing.
  4. And all the money in the world isn't going to fix their level of suck. The bottom feeders should spend more, but the point of drafts is to help teams rebuild. Using it as a punishment is both ineffective and counter-productive.
  5. I'm glad the draft is international now, but anti-tanking rules with lotteries doesn't work. You just shift from tanking for the #1 pick to tanking for the best odds of the #1 pick. The other rule only serves to deepen the divides between the haves and have nots. Until baseball levels the playing field, all of these changes just continue to give advantages to large markets. All I want is an MLB where the New York teams can be the Jets if they suck at managing a baseball operation. This current environment basically allows them to spend their way to a point of never reaching that low-point.
  6. Right, the site listed is estimating and I can't even see what sources they are using. So it's dubious to take that as gospel.
  7. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-braves-made-some-money-in-2021/#:~:text=The Braves enjoyed a banner,2020 season%2C to %24193 million. They made 104M in 2021. This is readily available information via google if you don't have a false agenda to push.
  8. I question this sourcing. Given what the Braves showed in profits (the only readily available information we concretely have)...this seems dubious at best. I think ownership profits are significantly more than this.
  9. MLB already has self-inflicted cancer. Now they are choosing to chug Chernobyl river water. Van and others are right: radical changes have to be made. Instead....pettiness.
  10. I guess I don't have any problem letting these near-ready pitchers show us what they have. I don't think you HAVE to trade for an ace, nor do I think you shouldn't trade for one because of protecting young, controllable assets. I tend to think a smart combination of both strategies is the real path forward and consistently successful franchises show that. (The Cardinals are a rough approximation of the Twins and use both strategies quite effectively) Absent other options to help the rotation I'm not interested in Montas right now. I'd prefer we had taken short term, high upside FA swings but I think it's completely possible this team could invest innings in young guys this year and watch them grow into something formidable in the near future. I'm not sure we'd get enough out of Montas in trade or in two years contributions to warrant a move now. Another ace? Sure, I'd always listen. Baseball's youth movement also means teams can rise up quickly if they can bring up the right young guys and turn a franchise around. No reason these young arms can't do that. And when they do? Absolutely consider trading prospects for more help.
  11. I think this one was even better! Helluva post.
  12. 100% this. The problems with baseball won't be fixed by the proposals of either side, but they start with ownership greed and the way that greed has manifested in shared revenues, broadcasting, and game pricing. Players have absolutely zero voice on those issues and they are the drivers of baseball's demise. Helluva post.
  13. I support workers being paid more in all industries. However, I'm not typically a fan of unions and the way they go about things. So this is not some pro-union, anti-owners thing. It's abundantly clear who the villain is this time. I don't support pretty much anything the players want except one overarching idea: the owners don't get to do this. They are the villains. They are crying poor while soaking taxpayers for stadiums. They are crying poor while their investments double and triple in value. They are crying poor when they profit 100M in a pandemic with attendance issues. They chose this path. They chose this outcome. They chose to lie. They don't get to stop baseball, cancel games, and cry poor. That's all BS. Sit at the table and negotiate in good faith and pay fairly. The owners have interest in doing neither but so long as they won't even attempt to behave fairly? Screw 'em. They are the villains.
  14. If nothing else, I'm personally rooting for this kid. He seems so damn likable and the skill-set is so appetizing. I hope he's able to have a full, successful year this year.
  15. I think he's our 2 hole hitting, gold glove LF for a long time. The Berrios move stings right now, but I think this guy is a stud.
  16. I came here with one thing to say and one to ask and you tackled half of it for me! Murderville is a fun concept on Netflix - part improv, part scripted comedy, a lot of fun. Worth a watch. I came to ask if anyone has an opinion on Righteous Gemstones and since I value your opinion highly, I'm bumping that to my next binge. Walter Goggins is a god damn national treasure, the man doesn't get nearly enough love for just how good he is.
  17. At this point, I'd just like to see a full season out of the kid and I think that's all Nick is saying....on the Royce Lewis BINGO card of crappy ways to lose a season "lockout" wasn't welcome.
  18. We appear to have different definitions of the word "fix".
  19. I see what you're saying about Colon or Madbum, but the truth is the vast majority of pitcher ABs are ugly, useless, or predictable. IMO that doesn't help the game or the aesthetics of it.
  20. Universal DH is the headliner for a reason: it is a wonderful step to improve the quality of baseball viewing. Long overdue
  21. I missed the part where you acknowledged you were wrong about the 2020 negotiations.
  22. This graph is lacking a fourth line: fan apathy. It might actually give that corporate profiteering line a run for it's money. I've always been willing to criticize the union (I have no love lost for unions) but this one is mostly on the owners. The game is broken by them both and I'm just so over it. Go Wild.
  23. I know it's all they can do....but damn what a riveting offseason. We flew into February at break-neck speed! Here comes spring training! Excuse me, I think the Wild and Timberwolves and Lynx and the NFL draft and NFL Monday in June are on....
