  1. Even at 7.5M I'd gamble. He's got some problems, but he was also a very promising young starter very recently. Not like we don't have payroll room to gamble with.
  2. This seems like a good buy-low move. I'd be all about it, with our pitching status what the hell do we have to lose?
  3. I think you're taking the argument a bit far. Managers have an impact and a good manager can do a lot to help a ballclub, but ultimately they are usually not the main drive force behind success or failure. If you're waiting for Gardenhire to give the Twins a Bobby V-esque meltdown that justifies his firing, it isn't going to happen. But sometimes change is good, I think that's where we are at.
  4. Reusse may be on to something but I'm going to just throw out there that the guy that will be more adversely affected will actually be Ryan Doumit. Since ST I've thrown around the suggestion that even if Hicks wins the job we'll see a lot Mastroanni. Couple reasons: 1) Mastro-Hicks is a FAR better 1-2 in the lineup than Hicks-Dozier IMO and likely in Gardy's as well. 2) Gardy's bizarre obsession with not giving the DH up and having a backup catcher available. We know about Escobar, but still I think it's a factor. 3) Keeping Willingham healthy and playing means lots of DH at-bats and it makes the OF defense better. I wouldn't be shocked at all if we saw far more at-bats lost to Doumit in the scenario of platoons than we would Parmalee. Just my theory.
  5. I started with show so now I'm scared to read them so I don't get spoiled. But I will when the series concludes. They are way worth the rental fee!
  6. i was thinking they warranted the invention of a new word: "pudridity"
  7. Be still my heart......contain the excitement for this group.....
  8. This board should be ashamed that only now this thread exists. The question is not just how awesome this show is and how hotly you anticipate the return......it's how many times would you throw granny off a bridge to see it now and not wait a minute longer. At least 15 adorable elderly ladies before I even blink. (All in jest....hope that was obvious!) But seriously if that would help....
  9. Well said.
  10. I guess to me I see this as natural pushback. Let's face it, corporations and unions both go too far. I think we are cycling in a strong push-back after what has largely been a half century of unions dominating business models. This won't be pretty but we will likely just see a union resurgence in the future. As Brock said - union/corp is a natural free market dynamic. IMO we are a bit overdue for a pushback. (Though it would be better if the pushback came from employees to their union but most large unions essentially act like their own businesses who equally could care less about employees.)
  11. I don't think there is any other choice than that. What is curious to me is, what do they do if he is mashing the ball come July? It's reasonable to think the trade market might be limited with health concerns plus the lack of possible comp picks for mid-season trade pickups. But resigning him comes with a lot of risk of that one-wrong-hit scenario. I guess I'm pulling for a surprisingly positive trade market, as much as I'd hate to see him go.
  12. *Tries to think of something salty* I got nothing.....
  13. Jesus....I didn't think it was that bad. What did Tubby have on the gopher administration? Anything short of nude photos just wouldn't explain that kind of extortion.
  14. Somewhat related, but I really dug the Twins ad "Time to start thinking baseball" - not many baseball cities that could make an ad like that. I thought it was really well done and perfectly timed.
  15. Hmmm....Butera is in AAA. Duensing is in the bullpen. Morneau isn't dizzy. Mauer doesn't have bilateral anything. There is still snow on the ground. Are we celebrating a second Christmas in March or something?
  16. Good post about the extensions spy, that is maybe the most ridiculous angle of this.
  17. Well, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the issue was not a red flag for medical. They got outbid.
  18. Comparing Baker to Correia isn't the right fit. Correia to Marcum is the comparison there. Whether we made the right call on Baker is largely going to be based on what Pelfrey does or does not contribute. But so far it's looking like passing on Baker turned out to be the right call. I was heavy on the mistake there, but it was largely based on Baker > Pelfrey.
  19. Must....resist....urge...to...deservedly....pile....on....
  20. God I miss BYTO.
  21. I'll throw five out there: 1) Parmalee will establish himself as a part of the future of this team. I expect a line somewhere around 340/400/740 for him. Maybe I'm being optimistic. 2)Our starting pitching is, at best, marginally better than last year. 3) The middle infield is a revolving door - Escobar, Dozier, Carroll, Florimon all end up being inadequate and it's a constant patch-job. 4) Justin Morneau goes crazy and is back to his form as one of baseball's best. 5) Joe Mauer goes out and has another stellar, unappreciated season much like last year only with more time behind the plate.
  22. right, hence why stringing together your best hitters is generally a good strategy. It's certainly better than intentionally positioning someone inbetween them who can get out but make it "productive"
  23. Or we could just hit someone number two and not intentionally get that lineup position out in order to advance runners. Mauer could advance them with non-outs. Like hits.
  24. Is there a way we can secretly abduct and clone Maddon and infilitrate the clone into the Twins organization. Granted, there are few hurdles in the plan, but I'm in if you guys are.
