  1. You're right, this blog is a good example of speculative fiction. Not only is Ryan's quote evidence of an innings limit approaching - so is major league baseball conventional wisdom, the Twins general conservative approach to injuries, and standard injury rehab timelines. Personally, I hope Ryan and his crew up that limit. The more Gibson, the better. But there was never a "myth", there was a very real expectation based on the vast majority of evidence. Not wild, hopeful speculation.
  2. Oooh, I like that comp. Even in terms of build and approach that is a very good one.
  3. Have people actually looked at how Parms has received his ABs? He's had exactly two months of solid at bats. Since when does that make or break big league careers? That's absurd. Torii Hunter and a multitude of other professional players shake their heads at the absurdity of that kind of judgement. That isn't a guarantee that he'll produce, but the idea that he's proven himself incapable is just bizarre to me.
  4. I think we'll find out very early here if they have him on a pitch count or innings limit how much we'll see of him. If it's very liberal at the start, maybe we'll see him get as many as 150-160. Anything more than that I think is highly unlikely.
  5. I'm kind of sad Iglesias went on a tear this last call-up. I really thought if he flopped this last time he was going to be a prime guy to try and buy-low on. But not the way he's hitting now.
  6. Abreu used to have considerable speed too. I agree that the speed element isn't there with him, but a lot of the other numbers are similar.
  7. ....is having a fantastic season, including a 21 game hit streak. Good for him, he was always a player I enjoyed on the Twins and appreciated how he approached his craft. Let's hope he keeps up all the success he's having.
  8. I love his approach at the plate. Saturday night the PBP comped him to Carlos Gonzalez, which I really like. Lots of similarities.
  9. I for one find Glenn Beck a source of the highest esteem. He says it...and it MUST be true. That said, I wouldn't be shocked at all if something like Prism was used for political gain. That is one of many dangers I see with it.
  10. I for one am pretty much expecting some struggles. It's natural for a call-up. But I see two positives to that - 1) if he doesn't struggle, even better! 2) These struggles are happening now so that in 2014 we can see his best.
  11. My guess is after weeks of jerking around his call-up, they are making it up to Gibson in one very nice way: South Beach. Hope he celebrates the hell out of it and it's the last time we have to worry about him not being on the big league roster.
  12. They got away with one today, Hernandez was tipping on a Walters-esque performance through much of the game, but it worked out. Thank god it's finally time to see Gibson.
  13. Looks like our sniper plan worked after all.....
  14. I understand why for today it couldn't be Gibson...but why not Albers? From what I can see he started on the 18th.
  15. How can something be a myth if it was acknowledged by Ryan? Perhaps a better title and suggestion would be: "The mysterious innings limit for Kyle Gibson". Ryan said there was a limit and gave a rough number. That may have changed and their may be reason to believe it has changed. He may even have just been giving a very cautious number publicly, but it is not (nor was it ever) a "myth". That's a backhanded way of discrediting people who are citing something the GM said on the issue. I would think that sort of evidence is pretty strong, not made up or "mythic"
  16. I acknowledge a chance of that. But given how likely I think it is that Correia is not a very good pitcher (as in...bad and we want to replace him desperately ala Blackburn) going forward, I'm convinced even a low A-ball player would be more valuable.
  17. Jeez, I thought I had very nicely handled that already.
  18. Exactly. It seems to me that revealing programs exist and their general framework isn't giving away national secrets. Out of one side of their mouth the government is saying "oh yeah, we've been totally transparent!" and out of the other they are indicting this guy for giving away secrets.
  19. Huh? Please read my suggestion again: "We are tinkering some things with Gibby's approach to make sure he's ready to face big league hitters. We are very happy with his results, but there are still a few things he needs to do before he's ready" Not only do I conceive it, I agree it's most likely. My point is that consistency is utter bunk...so why keep going with that explanation rather than the far more reasonable one i suggested? I won't disagree about the intelligence of the general populace, but ever since Todd Walker this organization has always put an emphasis on the farm. I think this fanbase is more aware of prospects than most for the simple reason that for 20 years now it's been a major point of emphasis by the announcers, spokespeople, and leadership.
  20. I'm out on that limb...yes. I daresay...and caution me if I go too far....perhaps Mike Pelfrey as well.
  21. That's fine, but the quote I posted as an example works just as well for the public and it isn't a mixed message then. To me, either the Twins do believe he needs to be more "consistent" (an utterly absurd notion given his results) and they are being consistent themselves in their message which is an indictment in it's own right. Or they are sending mixed messages for what reason I have no idea. Also, I don't think it's a "very small portion" of the fanbase that would like to see Gibson. They may not have all the stats or information, but I imagine many people would like to see our best, most-ready young pitcher.
  22. I guess my immediate thought to that is....why'd we give him three years than? I don't think we could have gotten an elite spec or anything, but the point is that his value won't be any higher than what it was last year. My guess is the main reason we didn't trade him was worries about the perception of signing a player for 3 years and dealing him 4 months later.
  23. I've really enjoyed watching walters pitch this season, but games like this should be a stark reminder that this guy is a AAAA pitcher. He shouldn't be blocking anybody.
