  1. Not at all, but your expectations should be (and it's a Twins meme even!) consistent. It's backwards to coddle veterans and be harsh on rookies publicly. In fact, I'd argue it's a rather cowardly form of management based on power. I'd rather the manager publicly be nothing but token cliches than this. (Probably in the minority on that) I'd appreciate honesty, but I'd like it to be consistent and fair honesty. I don't understand how some on this board can't see that there are significantly better strategies to public comments and they don't require back flips, law degrees, or once-in-a-lifetime public speaking skills. It's relatively foundational stuff. Frankly, this is far more speculation than I am engaging in. You may be right, but it's total speculation. I'm not speculating about age or minimal talent, just to make that distinction clear.
  2. We don't, but if we look for patterns in how Gardenhire administers treatment, I'd argue age is the top way to get on the dog list. And I'd say guys scraping by with limited talent and guts get a quick pass in his book. I completely understand what you're saying, but I think comments like these reflect how backwards he often is on people management.
  3. I wish he'd more routinely treat, say, Plouffe like he does Correia in that case.
  4. Your point is well taken, except his managing habits are matching his rhetoric: too much trust, too much praise, too much having his back no matter what. Therein lies the problem.
  5. And Puck's point was meant as an indictment of the front office for putting him there. I don't see why this is hard to see. You can evaluate his performance based on the past (where he was used as a backend starter/bullpen) but this team isn't using him that way. You are using the 4/5 starter thing to prop up Correia, but no one is saying Kevin Corriea is far underperforming by Kevin Correia standards. Kevin Correia is far underperforming the standards of where this team placed him. And you're right, that is on the front office. Which all everyone is saying - we have too many guys that fit that mold, so you could use that excuse to defend any of their performances.
  6. I don't think anyone has a personal dislike for Kevin Corriea. I'm sure he's a very nice man who loves his family and doesn't go around kicking puppies or taking sugary goodies from infants. And no one is making any such argument. All arguments about Correia's performanc, are arguments meant to indict the front office for their failure to deliver on their offseason goals. So I'm not sure who exactly you're lecturing.
  7. I'm with you in prayer for this. But add to that hope that if is is still worth it, we move him at that value.
  8. Now we can all rest with ease! And I like lineup 2 personally.
  9. Anything to defend the Twins right? To date, I've yet to see something stop you from doing it. I'm not sure where that line comes in.
  10. And as I said, I don't personally have a problem with this particular comment, though I think they are a bit too favorable considering his overall performance of late. Your problem is that you would support human sacrifice if the Twins did it and any reasonable suggestion about a better way to handle things you'd reject. He doesn't have to be this glowing in his praise, especially about a veteran. And it'd be real nice if the organization was consistent in their expectations. (And yes, I use consistent there quite specifically)
  11. The pet part comes from the string of post-game comments about KC from Gardy since the season started. I hope we don't have to establish that Gardy gets himself into some silly favorites - Blackburn would be a noticeable one too in recent years. How about him simply saying "Correia threw us a nice game tonight. We'd really like to see him consistently give us that kind of effort" It'd fit with the organization's meme too.
  12. There is no in-between? I don't have a problem with what Gardy said here, but there have been some signs that Correia is becoming more of a pet than I'm comfortable with.
  13. Yeah, posted my utter shock at this in the game thread last night. I had to do a double take when I saw that.
  14. Yeah, I'd almost rather the Twins take a bat at that pick because they are just miles better at evaluating hitters IMO. Then spend the next couple picks going for high upside arms. Bryant would have a spot on this team anytime he wants, he doesn't have to play in the field. Our DH is currently occupied by a "catcher", we'll have a spot for him. I think that's who I'm rooting for us to get and then, like you said, supplement the pitching via trade.
  15. Am I the only one that might feel better if they do go with Bryant if he's there with the first pick? This organization and pitcher development is hardly a match made in heaven. Why waste a high value pick on a position this organization struggles to evaluate? (I'm being more devil's advocate here, but I've been chewing on it more and more)
  16. The lack of stupid little errors has been the biggest improvement. His defense now actually looks as advertised.
  17. Wait....Jeremy Bonderman is still in the big leagues? Did I see that right in the pitching matchups?
  18. Do you know that's the issue or is that just an over-generalization you're passing off as a truth? I'm not saying it isn't true, but your generalities are hardly convincing. I find it amusing that you seem to be implying Butera, who can't hit anything, has upside/value in the same breath you're dogging a younger hitter's struggles. Struggles, I might add, that have also been plagued by injuries. Some of the same people here dogging Benson are the same that will defend Plouffe to their deathbed by claiming injuries sapped his hitting abilities last year. Yet Benson, gets no such pass and not even the cordial acknowledgment that it may have a lot to do with his struggles. The fact is, Butera's salary and deficiencies make him an easy guy to waive. It should've been him or the equally value-less Hermsen. If Benson had no value, fine. Ride out the year with him because he's your only capable defensive CF left on the 40 man should something happen to Hicks.
  19. Um, no. But this shows they may not have learned their lesson on this front. I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to twist my post this many ways. I'd just like them to start thinking more about value in their moves. Cutting Benson over Hermsen is just a baffling waste of value. I didn't call for any heads, I called for an improvement. Hold your horses chief.
  20. I think his defensive play indicates a lot about where he is mentally. He has ranged from downright brilliant to comical. (As in the Delmon-esque twirls on that double tonight) He's very feast or famine, but when you see him feast....damn is it exciting and promising.
  21. Kid has a sweet stroke when he turns on a ball. You can really see the torque and power he generates.
  22. I wonder how awesome Provus would sound of his cohort was capable. He seems like the kind of guy that would be excellent with some witty banter. But Gladden doesn't seem remotely capable of that.
  23. It is, I think the vast majority fall in between, didn't mean to imply otherwise. Issues like this have plenty of room for range of opinion.
  24. I don't think that's clear yet. I personally don't get the argument that "he's hit three homeruns...we really screwed up!" The mistake with Benson has little to do with his future - whether he becomes a career AA player or a future all-star - it was about value. The Twins have had a 6-7 year run now of being woefully inept at maximizing value. Not cutting Hermson or Butera over Benson is another example of this. Benson needed a change of scenery, but it didn't need to happen now and in this way over far better options for waivers. That's the mistake IMO.
  25. Agreed, I posted something about that the other day in hopes one of the guys more versed in the minors cold help out. I always thought AAA was good fastball exposure but it was off speed experience missing. Is tht just incorrect? It seems odd he can obliterate guys in AAA who largely don't have a full big league arsenal with an inability to hit fastballs. How does that happen?
