  1. Just like the NCAA, MLB is sinking their own ship out of pure greed on this issue. As John points out, they have plenty of profit to invest and even a meager investment would likely do away with these issues for a long time.
  2. Love the possibilities with this pick, really glad they went this direction.
  3. Here is a bit of news that correlates with this thread. The question I ask is.....do you mind Arcia watching the homerun? Was he showing up the other team or watching it? Maybe most importantly.....do you draw a line on swagger and how do you feel about it in the context of this team?
  4. You're right that things have turned the corner, I'm just saying there are reasons to think they both might be available.
  5. Well, they'd play Jay. From the way Bourjos has been played this season I think you could make a case he's deep in the doghouse.
  6. Buy low on Bourjos!!!!!
  7. So now hitting batting cage fastballs is where Hicks needs to be? Watch out T-ball leagues....we're working our way to you now!
  8. The irony with the existence of this thread and this comment is almost too much.
  9. Liriano's inability to deliver consistent results was my biggest point of contention to a long-term deal for him.
  10. http://consumerist.com/2014/05/29/netflix-ceo-says-comcast-is-coming-for-the-whole-internet/ This link, and the subsequent links inside it, are helpful for those unsure why this is a problem. Franken's speech did nicely as well.
  11. Your comment came across as a snipe against free markets. We need more of a free market in tech access rather than the monopolistic realities most face. The net is a 21st century utility and Comcast is actively using its massive lobbying efforts locally and nationally to shut out and gouge competitors with government indifference. Comcast is forming a private monopoly on digital access - it's destroying the free market.
  12. Illustrating some balance in your responses would help indicate that you share that vision. Too often we hear "look at all this stuff that is or is about to go right!" with zero effort to balance that opinion. Then chains like this start.
  13. April is evidence of it. We basically have two months of data at polar opposites, so I don't find either conclusive. And you implied Mauer's likely improvement.
  14. Oh no, I'm not implying that Dozier can't keep it up or that it was smoke and mirrors....but it was unexpected. I hate it when people seem to stack their argument and pretend like this Twins team has only positives to look forward to and everything good that has happened was expected and easily maintained. Whereas all the negatives are highly likely to turn the corner while no others take their place. It likely has a mix of both coming.
  15. Not all OPS are created the same. He's taken another step forward that even most optimists wouldn't have predicted. Also, if Colabello isn't the very definition of "smoke and mirrors" I'm going to need some clarification. Aren't you the same person that railed against using regression to the mean to predict backslides but now find it perfectly cushy to use to predict improvements? Deduno, Nolasco, Correia, and Gibson could all very easily be their less productive versions. We've seen this before and we have data to suggest it's very possible. Plouffe has been known to go pumpkin. Escobar is hardly producing at a level that is easy to count on. Ditto Suzuki. Hammer's health is a constant issue. All I'm saying is that we've had two bi-polar months. I'm not comfortable saying we know what June will look like.
  16. Except, he's so bad that he can't even get off the bench for a career shortstop. This isn't about hitting breaking balls either, he can't really hit ANYTHING at a major league acceptable clip. You're the one suggesting people are "giving up on him" for wanting to send him to AAA. It's really quite a strange position to hold.
  17. There is nothing free market about using the government to create monopolies.
  18. One would hope....but sometimes these things make strange bedfellows too. I agree, both parties are taking kickbacks and defending something that is hurting the American people. That was the scariest thing about Oliver's report: that we put an ex-head honcho of Comcast into a prominent advisor role in the White House. That's why anyone that is standing on the right side of this issue will get my vote, possibly without any consideration for other issues. I think it's that important for the future.
  19. There has been plenty of smoke and mirrors here. Suzuki, Colabello, Dozier outperforming even optimistic projections, etc. The pitching was also god-awful the first month. I don't think this team is clearly better because their identity isn't clear yet. Are they the May pitching staff or the April? Are they the April hitters or the May? Is it somewhere in-between? I don't think we can make those assumptions yet, because while you may feel things are better going forward I still see plenty of things that could pull the rug out from under this group and it wouldn't require anything catastrophic to happen.
  20. Provus is great. The problem is the frequency at which he is relieved by Gladden's god awful attempt at PBP.
  21. Sure, if you want to extend the definition of extension to include "ridiculously low wage, one year deals" I could probably entertain the idea. But I don't find that remotely plausible and anything other than that is a horrible idea.
  22. A Willingham extension would make me question the sobriety of our front office.
  23. I don't cringe at that nearly as hard as when I hear: "And now for the play by play....the Dazzle Man Dan Gladden!"
  24. That's FANTASTIC! I have to say, this is the one political issue in the upcoming cycle that might dominate my decision making. I don't care about party...just where do you stand on this.
  25. "Tonight" in this thread title should get replaced with "Always." His play by play is an insult to radio baseball broadcasting.
