  1. Yup, I'm cool with that. I wouldn't be looking to move him. I'd listen though.
  2. I need that Picard meme handy for this stuff.
  3. Did I hear right this morning that Blyleven made similar stupid comments last night in a three run game?
  4. Look at our bullpen pieces - three failed starters (Swarzak, Duensing, Perkins), two castoffs/minor league deals (Fien and Burton), and one nobody (Thielbar). It's not like these were "good" players we've kept, they've been found and transformed into good players once they went into our bullpen.
  5. I thought some spray charts might be helpful. Here is Mauer's hit type chart for 2014 vs 2013. Batted ball chart for 2014 vs. 2013. For whatever reason there is some serious contrast.
  6. Don't forget about Rosario, he's in the upper minors and (as of now) is still an OF.
  7. I don't think that's fair nor backed up by the stats. He literally doubled his K/9 going from SP to RP. He cut his Hits/9 and HR/9 by 35-40%. You could argue he became a totally different pitcher because of the added velocity of switching to the pen. He exceeded even optimistic projections. He's an abnormality to have that much improvement simply by switching roles. If you had asked the same question in 2011, anyone who had answered "Glen Perkins" would've been laughed out of the conversation. Maybe that guy ends up being May. Or Oliveros. I'm not sure and I'm not sure it matters. This team is getting great bullpen work from all kinds of guys that would've been thought to be scrubs in the very recent past. I personally don't deal him because of the contract and what I assume happened behind closed doors to facilitate it. But I don't think the idea that Glen can't be replaced is a good argument. This team has been replacing good relief pitchers for years with regularity and proficiency. It's one of Ryan's greatest strengths.
  8. I assumed that since the site made you go through an obnoxious slideshow to see any content that they'd be raking more than enough ad money to pay a whole legion of interns fairly.
  9. I would suggest this is what teams contending or near contending do. Teams still rebuilding should consider how present talent can augment their future plans in ways they currently are weak.
  10. Here's the thing about relievers - they are easily the least predictable position for success. Guys fluctuate rapidly (in part due to how easy it is in limited innings to see swings) but also because their career arcs are the most erratic. Take the man you're talking about - he was a Slowey-esque pariah who was within an eyelash of being cut to an All-Star closer. Had someone asked the same question circa 2006 you would've never put Perkins on this list and yet here we are. Again I'm not an advocate of moving him, but "there is no clear cut successor" is not a good argument in regards to relievers.
  11. Hard to keep the top spot when your top two have horrific injury luck.
  12. Good luck with the drive, it's a haul. (I know it, it's cut my Twins attendance down to one or two a year now)
  13. It's a pretty big reach. It's even more of a reach to expect a bunch of rookies to be above average major league players. I know it's hard to see 2015 as another punted season, but at least it looks like the corner turning. Perkins signed his contract with the intent (IMO) from both sides that this showed a mutual commitment to see this all the way through. And while trading closers is generally a good value move, I don't think it's prudent or possible with this particular player.
  14. The flip of that question is: what does keeping these guys for two more months accomplish?
  15. Buxton basically lost his season this year, I don't think he's up before September and probably for good reason. And as pointed out before, even guys that absolutely raked like Arcia have hard adjustments to make. 2016 seems like a far more likely scenario to have the elite crop up with the team. If you want to comp it with old Twins seasons, 2015 might look a lot like the 2000 Twins. Right now there simply aren't enough guys on the roster to comp it to 2001. We're more in 1999 this season.
  16. Or target some other team's talented headcase or scuffling prospect. Lots of ways to squeeze value out of these guys - we just have to do it. Too many quiet deadlines lately.
  17. We're heard this too much the last few years and with bad luck set-backs in the minors it has even less credibility. Any belief that we're going to have that many guys up by June of 2015 seems really pie in the sky to me. Perkins should stay because he's fantastic at his job, affordable, young, and a good voice to have on this team. Hell, I'd keep him just for the hope that his modern baseball sensibilities spread.
  18. Hopefully it happens and it isn't just talk. And hopefully people realize the returns aren't going to make us jump for joy (most likely) and that's ok too.
  19. That's fair and I'd personally like to see them keep Perkins. However, it does bear saying that relief pitching is frequently one of the most overvalued commodities and the Twins have always been very good at putting bullpens together for cheap.
  20. When I come up from down here in Southern MN, I take 169 to 394 and have found it to be the best way. Parking is more expensive, but the traffic to get out isn't too terrible. You park right at the field so you're on the road quickly and I've found it can shave as much as 45 minutes off the ride home since the train to MOA can take a long time. (Unless there is some construction I'm not familiar with)
  21. I think, for good or for bad, Perk is here for the long haul.
  22. I don't blame Suzuki for wanting to cash in, but if that's the case - move him. This deadline needs to stop being about the quality of the return and time to just dump some soon-to-be dead weight.
  23. Deduno? He did get a lot of work in yesterday.
