  1. No, it appears from this last post that what you did was narrowly define your criteria to omit most the the players struggling so it could fit your argument. Which isn't any better.
  2. I think people got too caught up in the "this will be easy" thing. Sometimes it's not about who you play but when you play them. Cleveland is playing some good ball right now to - they're going to need to pull a turnaround like they did right before the break or this might get ugly.
  3. I don't think I've ever laid out my opinions on Hicks. He was too important of a prospect to let flounder in the major leagues. He belongs in the minors getting things right, ideally at AAA by the end of the year. (I am, however, baffled by his waffling on the switch hitting) So it doesn't sound like we disagree much at all. But there is no "guessing" in blaming some of those things for his failures. People in the organization working with him every day did that. That's no longer a guess.
  4. Posters here aren't guessing. They're repeating what his own management has said about him. I would think that's a fairly reliable source.
  5. They were said by the field staff and GM. I would suggest those are pretty reasonable sources and your argument is pretty misguided.
  6. I did stop....then Colby Lewis brought the horse back from the dead and injected it with a dose of Super Stupidity.
  7. I want to know who is going to punish Dustin McGowan for having the audacity to strike out three Rangers when up 4-1. He clearly should have been Wainwrighting it out there.
  8. Hey man when it hits 2-0 you just pack it up. Petulant morons being indulged yet again by this nonsense.
  9. Good god....seriously?
  10. What exactly would the Twins, in this hypothetical, be getting blamed for?
  11. Fool proof. And the best part? Totally not hypocritical. (Even with his absurd spin on it today that he was mocking the system that allowed such jokes.)
  12. Unimportant was a poor choice of words....perhaps not as impactful as some emphasize. For instance, I don't hold it against Gardy that his teams have been awful in small sample sizes in the playoffs. But the "Manager for Life" position I really don't like.
  13. Oh, well as long as we cherry pick all the "yes" answers I guess that's great! I mean, if we included Florimon, Nolasco, Deduno, Morales, Mauer, Hicks, Arcia, Kubel, Bartlett, Burton, or Pelfrey that would just be unfair right? It's really hard to take the "Gardy deserves the credit for all improvements" angle seriously when you don't acknowledge the flip side of that.
  14. I think a lot of people got snookered by his cause. I'm a huge advocate for LGBT rights...but Kluwe? Not a fan. Here's the incident for those that are curious:
  15. But there is a reason...the recent results have been awful. I'd also suggest doing nothing...leaves little room for major changes. Time for someone with new, more modern sensibilities. Gardy has had a great opportunity, the recent results indicate the need for fresh ideas. I thoroughly dislike the idea of dismissing results. I would also suggest that if he is so great at bringing up talent the results shouldnt be his enemy.
  16. The problem with your argument is that you have to have the opinion Highabove has - basically Gardy has a job or life. I'm a strong believer that the manager role in baseball is the least important of the four major sports - I think the impact is minimal at best unless the manager is a truly brilliant guy. (Maddon comes to mind) But at some point if you're only willing to cite the roster talent as a reason the team's wins and losses change....then aren't you really giving someone a job for life? You throw results or anything else out the window and chalk that up to talent and you say the guy can coach as long as he wants? I don't think Gardenhire is bad at his job. I think he's run his course as this team's manager and the combination of poor results (that are not all his fault) and a healthy opportunity given without the desired end result makes it acceptable to try a new direction. But I don't believe he should get the job for life - results have to matter, even if it isn't 100% fair.
  17. Lets use a current example: if the Braves wanted to toss 22 million in with Dan Uggla they could find a trade partner, ditto even Blackburn. (Free, afterall, is a nice price) Cameron's point is just estimating how far from that magical price point any player is so naturally mega deals are the furthest away. Even a guy bad at baseball like Uggla or Backburn is going to reach "tradeable" faster simply because the hill to climb is so much smaller. Mauer has unfortunately had a variety of things happen that made his hill look like a mountain and Cameron is right about it. So I'm not sure why even recharacterizing it as dollars per WAR helps. Guys that are the most awful at that are likely to be very untradeable. I'd also point out that he's making a list of guys whose market value is low due to their contracts. Blackburn and Uggla value as targets are awful primarily because they're bad at baseball. Mauer is still good at baseball but he can't be traded because of the contract attached to him.
  18. I appreciate your honesty on it, that's certainly one approach.
  19. Such as? I dislike the idea of discrediting someone's work because it doesn't fit an angle you are keen to rather than the merit of what it was written for. Mauer's still a good player, glad we have him, but there's no doubt he'd be a massive headache to deal if we had to tomorrow.
  20. Sometimes the grass isn't any greener. Sometimes it is. But we have been chewing on the same grass for 12 years and it's been mighty brown for 3.
  21. I would tend to agree with many of these positives - I do think his teams tend to overperform their overall talent. I do think he's a player's manager. (for veterans or talentless grinders) But what would have to happen to warrant moving on? If these good things are enough, is there ever going to be a valid reason to fire him?
  22. Also, apparently, in the findings it's revealed Kluwe thought the Penn St. sexual abuse was something appropriate to joke about. Ouch to credibility.
  23. I think this report largely debunks Kluwe. Two people confirmed the comment but one said it was a joke that Kluwe laughed at when it happened. It's still a dumb and insensitive comment, but not what Kluwe portrayed. Everything else pretty much erodes his claims - everyone else interviewed contradicted him. Not that he has much of a case, not sure how a young straight white male is the victim of discrimination.
  24. I'm sorry, you switched to Ryan somewhere in there after starting with Gardy. I'm looking for logical arguments on Gardy. I know Ryan and Gardy are attached at the hip, but I'm trying to break that and talk about Gardy. Can you try again please? Ryan has done some good things, I can see the argument for him. Help me on Gardenhire.
  25. Long term I think you're right. Though I see it playing out with Molitor getting the big job and Dougie M. being a bench coach a few years before getting his shot. I like him as well though.
