  1. Time to move on from Gardy doesn't necessarily mean "Gardy is the problem". It's just time to move on.
  2. You realize this isn't the first public admonishment right?
  3. I can at least understand the other two points, but I'm curious on this one - do we know what those incentives are?
  4. I'm with Smerf....shop both shortstops and see what the market is. You don't have to deal them but you should explore the possibility.
  5. They do seem to believe it helped in AAA (since he didn't play catcher much there), but I'm not sure the problem is his catching ability. At least Gardy has spoken publicly to the contrary. The issue here to me is why someone with potentially more talent (or at least roughly similar ability to contribute but cheaper and younger) is being pushed down simply because of his non-veteran status. It's easily one of my biggest issues with Gardy.
  6. I'm genuinely curious if you think this can be as effective. I'm sure some of it can be simulated to a degree, but isn't there a lot missing to that sort of work? Plus, it doesn't seem like there is disagreement that he is better. What seems to be getting in the way has nothing to do with his ability and much more with his experience.
  7. I think this is spot on. It's also one of the times I find dogging a player publicly to be an understandable approach. I think the Twins are past the point of speaking out to motivate him, this is something else. This is public relations oriented.
  8. That post absolutely hit the nail on the head, wow. Well done spycake.
  9. The Twins would be fools of the highest order to count on this kid with no good alternative for the third consecutive year. I haven't given up on him, but I damn sure wouldn't bank on him either.
  10. I'm bullish on Pinto, his bat looks to be above average for his position as is. The Girardi/Posada comp is interesting because part of why I'm down on Suzuki is a function of career production but it's also his age and high workload this year. He seems like the perfect storm for a disaster and I'd like plan B to be well prepared.
  11. Considering Suzuki is a career 89 OPS+, there's a pretty darn good chance of it. I'm not sure if people have just forgotten that Suzuki was a backup caliber catcher or what, but he's not an elite defender himself and has had a flukey good season relative to his career. So yeah, I'd kind of like to see if Pinto can catch as well as the field staff says he can now.
  12. He caught a lot at the beginning, the staff saw a problem, and now are on record that he's much improved. So citing his April starts is irrelevant to that current complaint. I'd like to see if he really is improved.
  13. Not everyone can be an allstar....what you just described can easily be a good player. See: Brian Dozier. So I'm not sure why him being only solid is a justification not to play him more. Especially since there is a good chance "solid" is better than Suzuki sooner rather than later.
  14. Well, it's hard to talk about someone's level of catching when they, you know, aren't allowed to pay catcher much. Another point against the "Pinto isn't playing because his defense is still bad" idea is that we also just recently heard from an ump and Gardy that he's been night and day better behind the plate and saw some of that with Nolasco. This appears to be more about "the veteran should start against playoff teams" and to that logic I say: blech.
  15. Gladden says a lot I like, I just wish they'd let him be a color guy only. But I love that exchange, thanks for sharing it.

  17. That is an interesting step - hard not to see it as a "no confidence" vote in Rubio.
  18. It's really hard not to hear "Pelfrey" and be too busy shaking my head in disgust to read a thread about him.
  19. Yes, there are always people like this. I guess I'm not sure why their opinion should matter on the subject.
  20. I love an argument that basically concludes "everyone is at fault"...because then no one is.
  21. I'd like to thank the Nats for doing the Twins a favor and saving them from the temptation next year to put him in any role other than AAA.
  22. I'm a believer that personalities and clubhouse mix do matter, at least more than some want to acknowledge. But this club, and manager in particular, have often been far too eager to believe "happy" players are the same as "good" players. Let's hope the comradery continues but the baseball needs to get better too. They aren't mutually exclusive, but nor does one entail the other.
  23. I'm glad to see a fully fleshed out article on this, good work Nick. There are a couple things that still stick out to me: 1) This "what is he?" question is a bit concerning. We have a season and a half now of Dozier being a better player than we could have hoped for, but we still don't know exactly what that identity is. We know, regardless of his other statistics, that he'll be able to get on base. But is he a high K guy? A high power guy? A doubles or a homerun guy? I get a little concerned by that lack of identity. 2) I'm still wary of the post all-star game production because it was really driven by a flukey BABIP. It could be the true Dozier give or take, but I need to see that type of production with a more normalized BABIP before I fully buy into it. I think Dozier is a huge part of the future and I love that we have him around, but I also think he's a bit of a mystery going into 2015. Not a mystery in terms of will he be helpful, but more in terms of what manner of help he'll provide.
  24. That's awesome.
  25. I agree this concern isnt a high priority, but an interesting topic IMO.
