  1. And I think this team has stuck with sub-par defenders at positions before to let them learn on the job. It makes far more sense and is far more in line with this team's history that they deferred to the veteran and moved the kid. This wasn't a defensive ability decision, this was a "we want to keep Plouffe and he's at third...so where do we put Sano?"
  2. Given that he's on O'Reilly tonight and actively on Fox and Friends, Hannity, and the other shows....I think it's safe to say he's appealing to the audience of Fox News.
  3. All we are doing is kicking the "Sano at 3B" can down the road. It's not like we have much for alternatives in the system should Plouffe even slide back a little bit.
  4. I'm speculating, but I would bet it is.
  5. I agree, but I'm dreading the extension announcement. I feel like it's an inevitable mistake waiting to happen.
  6. Those are good examples, but they feel like ancient history compared to Duensing, Burton, Suzuki, etc. I'm really hoping we can move him before he walks for nothing and we move Sano back.
  7. Given his base....doesn't a dust-up with Fox News make the least sense? Trump has had a very thin skin for awhile. I'd suggest that if there is any masterminding here it's that he feels Kelly will double down and really expose him. His strongest asset is basically being Teflon - vague proclamations and promises, vague insults as retorts, and never letting anyone pin him down. Kelly already has once, he's afraid of it happening again.
  8. Plough may be an asset in the very, very short term. Past this year he starts to become less and less of an asset at a precipitous rate and you just freaking know the team is going to pay him too much for too long and play him past his usefulness. Playing guys past their usefulness because they are "Twins guys" is one of this teams worst traits.
  9. No I agree. They made choices months ago that made that offer a given. The problem was the choices made months ago.
  10. This isn't masterminded though, he's done this same sort of thing for the last few months on a smaller scale. This isn't some sort of brilliant move - he might spin it that way to his own success - but the source of this is his remarkable ability to be deeply butthurt for being called out on the jack-a** things he says.
  11. He's right though. This is why the organization stuck with Fien rather than adding someone substantial in the offseason. Hell, one name - Brian Duensing. The trade market for 3B wasn't very good this offseason and that gives them some cover, but the truth is that I doubt they even attempted to shop him for precisely the reasons laid out in this blog: they are too comfortable with the status quo and with veteran guys. Too often they hang on to the aura of the past rather than take risks and be aggressive with young players. This team is a better team with Sano at third for the long haul. Interrupting his progression there is the biggest travesty of this whole outfield switch.
  12. I mean, yeah, the debates are over done ratings grabs. But how is that any different than Trump as a candidate really? Yeah, he's poking at them, but in a rare moment I commend Fox News for their stance. These debates were all agreed upon a long time ago. This isn't some kind of moral high ground Trump is taking against the ridiculousness of the campaign.....he's butt-hurt because Megan Kelly has made him look like a chump.
  13. I guess I don't see why it's awesome that he has an argument with Megan Kelly and pouts about it publicly. What am I missing? Sarcasm?
  14. I don't think "reasonable" means what you think it means. You can have doubts and still find someone guilty. I think there is plenty to have a retrial, but the point made by the defense attorneys is super critical - no defense attorney wants to go to bat with a "they set us up" defense because vast conspiracies are, almost by definition, unreasonable suggestions.
  15. We're going to get bombarded by stuff like this. Wake me up when it's May and then tell me why he has or hasn't improved his play.
  16. Pitchforks should come out for a retrial, not a declaration of innocence. None of us know his innocence or guilt with any certainty, what we know is that this trial was a farce. So what we need is a retrial. If the crucial distinction between that and total innocence is lost on you or anyone else, then your concept of justice is as out of whack as any shady character in this documentary.
  17. Sure, it's not important if the journalist is unbiased if your takeaway is "there was major misconduct in this trial, we should try it more fairly". If your takeaway is "he's innocent....let me grab my torch and pitchfork and arrest my pet conspiracy theory guy as the real criminal" - then, yes, it is EXTREMELY important to recognize this was a biased portrayal.
  18. I've heard the defense speak, I haven't heard the prosecution and can't say I was following Wisconsin media 10 years ago. I can even understand being convinced of his innocence, but extrapolating a BS conspiracy whodunit, or buying into such nonsense, immediately loses credibility IMO.
  19. It's a weird bizarro turn. People who are avidly defending Avery's innocence based on a one-sided presentation of the case are basically doing their own Manitiwoc impersonation. Talk about missing the most central point of this.
  20. It's a small move alright. Whether it was necessary or not - you've pinned down the point of frustration for most of us. This team should consider itself a contender and there just hasn't been enough added from last year to this point.
  21. It's the one thing I agree with Bernie on.....but then he's gone out and taken a bunch of union money. So I don't think this ever gets fixed.
  22. I think a degree of roster expansion would be a boost to the league. I like the idea.
  23. I'd be fine with that....but the immensely powerful public unions are never going to let that happen unfortunately.
  24. On that front I agree, they get falsely blamed for that. But they create a whole host of problems on other fronts not tied in with immigration and the squeeze on middle class. I would argue that in heavy union-dominated cities, they do put a very harsh squeeze on any non-union middle class people. Especially in the city of Chicago that can be really apparent.
  25. Slap a "mission accomplished" on this offseason baby!
