  1. The problem with Arya is that she may have learned more than we know, but because they didn't show us that it leaves the impression that she just basically took a beating for awhile and learned very little. When Jaqen H'ghar said she had "many skills", I couldn't help but ask - which ones?
  2. Yeah, I'll agree it was a weaker episode. It's clear Sansa is going to call on Baelish and the Vale to bail them out. I also am not sure what role the Hound has going forward, besides to hopefully kill MountainStein. And what the hell did Arya think was going to happen? The Faceless Men would let her waltz out of Braavos? She's going to have a target on her back the rest of her life most likely.
  3. Yeah, this whole situation was pretty forseeable. In fact, some of us railed extensively on this very issue. The issue was never anti-Plouffe. He's alright, nothing special. It was everything to do with Miguel Sano and, to a lesser extent, Max Kepler/Eddie Rosario/Oswaldo Arcia. It also had nothing to do with the return from a trade this offseason. The real return was always going to be a better balanced roster. Whatever you got for Plouffe was a bonus. Every day we aren't rectifying that mistake is a further mistake.
  4. I don't think you can blame Molitor for this necessarily. I would hope that professional baseball players can be allowed to choose when to try and bunt for a hit. What I would put on Molitor is his response to this. If Nunez and others can't figure out when and how to bunt, then take the option completely away from them.
  5. No, but I'm also not posting that his height or weight is preventing him from playing there. In what limited action we have seen, he's been quite alright. The team has never badmouthed his ability to play there and their reasoning during the offseason was that they just didn't want him to be a DH. They've continued to play him there in the minors and last year in the majors whenever he was in the field. The evidence is far more in line with the team having too much affection for Plouffe than a disbelief in Sano's defensive abilities. He should probably be a DH most of the time and a part-time 3B, but he has no business being in RF.
  6. Fair enough, my mistake. The question remains- why play him there at all if what you say is true?
  7. Wouldn't the fact that they continue to put him there whenever Plouffe is out indicate that they do think he can play it?
  8. Agreed, though I wouldn't have minded that move as much had 3B still been open for Sano. But a lot of this bungled mess is due to a continued belief (a completely asinine one) that just any ol' infielder can play the outfield. Which has failed with Bartlett, Santana, Escobar, Nunez, Sano....and perhaps I'm missing more?
  9. I'm amazed at how much of this deal San Diego is still paying.
  10. Treating those two things as if they're equal is ridiculous. One position he had never played until about 3 months ago and the other he's been playing for 3+ years. I'm not using his height or weight to determine he can't play RF at the major league level. I'm using his actual on-field performance. Which is indisputably bad. Horrific. Terrifying. Worthy of Benny Hill music on a loop. And further, I'm using the fact that the only reason we moved him to the position he can't play is for a decidedly mediocre player who isn't even playing up to those meager standards.
  11. I agree, the NRA is possibly the worst scourge in our country's politics. No amount of wisdom or good sense seems to penetrate that political demographic.
  12. I hope for the next 6 months Obama keeps swinging. He's absolutely excellent in formats like this and he is right on the money in that clip. I haven't loved all the man's policies, but he's got the right frame of mind.
  13. Every day Trevor Plouffe remains on this roster is the continuation of a mistake.
  14. I'd like to see the guy actually play 3B before we use a scale to determine he can't. Nothing about his limited time there has indicated he's terrible at it.
  15. For the Twins I don't think it would look like that. I know you're trying to match up prospect ratings the best you can, but it's hard to set up those same circumstances. If the general point is - do you want him to trade a handful of the best prospects for a high end arm and some extra parts - the answer is yes. If he's timing it to coincide with a bust out of the young players. I think the 2017 offseason may be the ideal time for that if Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Polanco, etc. are rolling along. I liked the Myers deal at the time for KC. He was betting on his young players and he bet correctly.
  16. It's not that simple because Moore had added someone like Cain previously that made Myers more expendable. (Not to mention that Myers was a bit miscast - not good enough to be a CF defensively and not elite enough offensively to be a corner OF) So to answer your question - yes I would. Not this coming offseason, but perhaps the next. But only if it's for a good prospect that is blocked.
  17. IMO, that should be established long before the major leagues and certainly not auditioned there. Sano's conversion to RF is about as terribly as I can imagine that being handled.
  18. Nick stole my thunder, but Plouffe has been wildly overrated here for the last few years. He's a perfectly acceptable player, but not the kind of guy you just have to wedge into your plans. And he was utterly redundant in this lineup. Part of your advocacy about moving him to RF is based on an idea I find very wrong-headed. Versatility is only versatility if the guy can actually field the position competently. Technically we could play Glen Perkins in CF and call it versatility, but it ain't the kind I'm interested in.
  19. Stop it.....that's just mean.
  20. I think the lesson to be learned here is - there is a team that prizes defense in your own division, pretty much using your own model, and is succeeding. We could make up a lot of ground if we just stopped believing anyone can play the OF whenever we decide to shove them out there. Let's just start there and work our way up.
  21. Honestly, I enjoy your commentary but it's becoming really hard to understand what you're saying. I literally have no clue what the hell this means.
  22. I thought the same thing. This seems like it was designed to be a good thing (the two members of congress for example) but most of the people coming are there to antagonize religious people.
  23. So instead we're marching a bad hitter out to the cleanup spot every day, forcing another guy who can't play OF to the OF, and realistically talking about cutting him for nothing after the season. Who the hell cares what the return would've been? Isn't it more than evident that the point many of us made in the offseason - move him, return be damned - was the right play? Even if he goes on some hot streak in July, what is he going to fetch?
  24. It's still hard for me to believe we moved Sano around because we just had to keep this guy in the lineup. Ugh.
  25. You didn't have to give him that extra money to stop Beresford, Michael, or Polanco from playing. Brian Dozier was a Twin until he was 32 and his contract was going to be decided based on his production within a pretty controlled framework. Instead, we guaranteed him a bunch of money regardless of production several years before it was necessary. Did that work, kind of, once? I guess. Maybe. At best the reward was going to be what? Slightly better trade value? A couple million in savings? And the downside? You're looking at it.
