  1. And i'd like to see it continue into next season. I don't want to draw a conclusion about the kid until we stop jerking him around for at least one calendar year.
  2. Also, someone employed by the Twins should be hitting grounders at Sano at 3B for a few hours every damn day of the offseason. If after regular work and routines and practice there he still can't cut it - then, fine, he's a DH. But I have trouble concluding that now after our "favorite team" pulled off the blunder of the offseason moving him to the outfield. No one who nodded their head in agreement with that decision should still be affiliated with this team past yesterday.
  3. Kintzler turning back into a pumpkin is the least surprising thing ever.
  4. Vargas, with the effort and dedication he has put in to change his approach, has earned a shot at the DH role next year. We want players to be wililng to work and improve, we should reward them when they do. And Vargas clearly has.
  5. Vargas should be getting a nice, long look this year. And next year. Mauer is not going to magically revert back to what he was no matter how many times we get excited about a 10 day stretch. He should no longer be entrenched at first come hell or high water.
  6. My response to this would be that I think you'd be a bit surprised how common that deferential treatment is. That doesn't make it right, but Molitor deferring to vets means he has something in common with basically all of the other guys managing in the big leagues. Nobody, so far as I am aware, does anything else. The key is to not make it public or shaming as Gardy often did.
  7. Poor Gotham, so much potential absolutely destroyed by poor writing and planning. I think television has gotten so good that I'm starting to really notice the difference in writing quality. There was a long time where I went more by the genres that entertained me, but now I seek out anything and everything so long as I can sense good writing chops at work.
  8. I'd be curious to see if those projections actually matched, over time, team records. I think before I put stock into your first paragraph as a valid argument, I'd have to see the data to suggest it's valid. But it's certainly an idea I'd enjoy reading more about should that be explored more. I'm just not ready to accept it as a means of evaluation until it's more verified. Just because it intuitively makes sense doesn't mean it actually works that way.
  9. At least with the Jon Benet stuff they are suggesting they are going to name a suspect using new technology. I could see that being interesting. OJ? Been there, done that. It was all over TV. Most people I talked to said it peaked in the first episode and went steadily down hill.
  10. Coming full circle.... He was damn good in Fargo too!
  11. And I disagree with Maddon if he means basic fundamentals. I understand some help is needed in terms of things like "now you have to face sliders, here's what you do", but hitting cut off men? Sorry, that's not what their job is or should be. That's something you do as a drill or a routine to reinforce an already learned skill. Not something that should have to be taught.
  12. And I get what you're saying. We haven't seen anything from Molitor to make us think he's one of those special few managers who means something. It goes back to ashbury's post earlier, which I think pretty much nailed this issue. I'm fine with firing him because he's probably not one of the special few who makes a difference. I'm also fine with keeping him because the odds of finding one of those special few is basically zero so some stability may not be the worst thing. But i'm not going to get bent out of shape either way.
  13. I would hope the purpose of the major league staff is to employ major league ready players in the most advantageous way and help keep them performing like major leaguers. I tend to think expecting the major league staff to teach basics to ball players is a lot like expecting sixth grade teachers to teach basic addition. Some of you seem to be wondering why the sixth graders can't do alegebra, while simultaneously wanting them to work on 1 + 1.
  14. Well, last year we outperformed the talent and performance of our time by a decent margin. I largely consider that luck, but I largely consider most things people chalk up as the manager's responsibility as luck.
  15. That show took almost every single category! Granted, Fargo doesn't belong in that category either, but it should've smoked that series.
  16. We have no way of measuring this. And yet people are trying to believe they do. Hell, has there been anyone associated with this franchise that has gotten more praise, even before he was named manager, as being a "great teacher" than Molitor? The young guys rave about him and his guidance. The problem is organizational. I understand Molitor may need to sink with the ship, that's hsi fault for signing on to the sinking ship, but your first mate isn't the one who built the terrible ship. You just asked him to sail something with a hole in it and he managed the inevitable - to be there when it sunk.
  17. If you remember, opinions here on Rosario's play were not so cut and dry. And virtually every time some young player who is part of our core sits, we roast Molitor for not playing the guys he should be playing. I can't say I recall you or any other posting standing up and declaring Kepler should sit for a few games after that comically ill-conceived dive attempt of his a few months ago. I remember this board lighting up that Sano was getting demoted down the lineup and sitting, with no thought at all as to whether that could be the manager doing exactly what you want him to do. The truth is that we don't know what happens behind closed doors. We don't know how many conversations, tongue lashings, or ultimatums are happening privately. And that's a good thing. The previous manager made no such attempt to keep things professional. Do I still think there is more veteran deference going on? Yes. But that's common among pretty much any work force you're a part of. The second you start pushing back on the veteran staff is the moment you start risking an insurrection. I don't know what the exact answer is, but i know it's far less black and white as you're portraying it.
  18. Lots of people get paid millions to have no meaningful impact. Or because they possess any meaningful skills. There is an entire family of them named Kardashian. I don't think judging them by their pay check is all that useful. This isn't the NBA or the NFL. Baseball is much more between the lines and player driven than coach driven. Personally, I think an MLB manager as a tiny, tiny effect on the team. Only a precious few are guys I'd consider meaningful or difference makers. I'd be on board for firing Molitor if such a guy was presented, but they don't exactly grow on trees. I'd rather hire a manager for minimum wage and spend every last red cent on development and organizational frameworks.
  19. So what should he do to "make sure they don't ignore it"? Bench them? Chew them out? if they answer is "bench them", I'm pretty sure it's against baseball rules to play zero guys in the lineup. At some point the rubber meets the road on some of these criticisms. What exactly is he supposed to do about the fact that no one we call up seems to have basic fundamentals engrained in them?
  20. Part of what was supposed to make Myers valuable was where he played. His current production (which took three years to get to by the way, which would be of no help to Kansas City) for a first baseman isn't nearly as special. It's good, but not special. I would be on board for a Shields-type trade by this team next offseason. This offseason should be about dealing Dozier and making sure most of our future plays the entire year next year. That includes Buxton, Kepler, Sano, Vargas, Polanco, Rosario, Berrios, hopefully Gonsalves at some point, and a handful of the young flame throwing relievers. After we've let them take their lumps (and hopefully work through it), then invest in them taking the next step.
  21. Wonder how, over time, I got that reversed in my head. Weird.
  22. If we roll out Rosario, Buxton, and Kepler for a full season in the outfield we may see dividends right there. The problem is from catcher and around the infield we have a ton of question marks.
  23. You mean Astros right? (I'm making sure I didn't miss some other scandal) And I imagine this effectively ends his career in baseball. I can't imagine any team wanting to deal with a team that employs him.
  24. I want to root for the O's just for how weirdly they have gone about contending. Have we seen a team like this in recent memory? Virtually no speed whatsoever and bad starting pitching and they are winning with some crazy slugging numbers and a lights out bullpen. It's so unique I have to tip my cap.
  25. Damn that's shady. I can't believe how light he's getting off! And the "I take ownership of this, I wasn't doing anything deliberately, etc." nonsense only makes it worse. I can only hope the suspension is immediately followed by a pink slip.
