  1. They don't pick until the second round, drafting a stud LT is going to take a near miracle. Kalil is genuinely the best option. In part because the FA class is weak, but also in part because offensive line play around the league is freaking awful. I wonder if Barr was hurt. Or perhaps we aren't playing to his strengths, that's my other suspicion.
  2. Giving Dozier an extension would be an almost certain failure.
  3. I'm really high on Kamara, after that I'd have to do more digging. Kamara reminds me of LeVeon Bell.
  4. Right, casual fans that go to one or two games aren't worth factoring in. If Dozier was going to lose 5000 season ticket packages, I guess maybe it's a factor. But that isn't the case and as spy pointed out, the casual fan will just pick up a new casual favorite anyway.
  5. I like that Mike except I might lean RB in round 2 depending on who is there.
  6. You only have so many roster spots though. If you retain Patterson you do need to count Treadwell. If you think Treadwell is a bust you have to trade him.
  7. I think Patterson comes back here as well, unless someone promises him a much larger role and he takes the bait.
  8. I considered putting WR on the list, but I think we need to plan on Diggs-Thielen-Treadwell as the top three. There could still be room for Patterson to stay.
  9. I think the coaching staff will stay largely the same. This team has some needs for sure, I'd rank them like this: 1) LT 2) RT 3) RG 4) RB 5) DT 6) Blocking TE 7) CB 8) LB I think Kalil is the best bet for LT. You could consider ponying up for Reilly Reiff as your RT or use the draft. I think this team has to use one of it's top 3 picks on a RB.
  10. I think our line next year probably looks like this: Kalil-Boone-Berger-Zeitler-Rookie I'm simply not sure there is a better LT than Kalil.
  11. No one player carries a team, that's true. But I might argue no single player, each game, has more to say about the outcome than the starting pitcher.
  12. Even if you don't think they buy his performance, he still loses value by the first two points. In fact, those become even more important if you don't think 2016's surge did anything for him.
  13. It means you have one young starter to build around and a chance to play Polanco at his natural position with a glove-first guy at short. We simply will not contend for anything without adding talented pitchers. That is going to have to happen via trading and drafting. So why not use your highest value asset that also has minimal chance of being here much longer? That's what smart teams do, play the highest probabilities. Recognize what you are and don't pretend to be anything else. Not dealing Dozier means we had to settle for a much worse probability of immediate and future success.
  14. Alright, my WAY too early draft wish list: 45: RB Alvin Kamara 76: C/G Pat Elfein 88: DT Jaleel Johnson 110: OT Taylor Moton 119: TE Sprinkle 142: OG Jordan Morgan Just my initial thoughts, have to watch some more on the late round guys, but I think Kamara will be there when the Vikes pick. I think passing on him would be a huge mistake.
  15. Even if I believe in base runs it's still a 90 loss team who has only one meaningful starter that it could hope improves dramatically. Retaining Dozier means we also field half an infield with some serious question marks as well. (And Dozier is not stud himself)
  16. How in the heck is that contradictory? Yes, I'm acknowleding it's not a 100% certainty (because he could, conceivably, his 100 straight home runs to start the year, it's just bloody unlikely), but it's as close to that as I can imagine. I would suggest to you that he goes on some binge early in the season is not "as likely" as my suggestion that he ages and has less team control. It also flies in the face of how valued position players have been mid-season the last five years. So if you're correct that his second half didn't impact his value, then his age and contract are even larger factors and make it even more important to deal him now.
  17. Yeah, I was not happy seeing that cheap TD go to a guy not even on this roster in the summer. Give it to the kid, give him something to be excited about.
  18. We lost 103 games and will return virtually the same pitching staff. We may improve to a 90 loss team with luck....but that's still a 90 loss team. by the time we get this thing righted he's going to have dramatically less value.
  19. No, I don't know, but it is vastly more probable he has less value. Id call it a near certainty.
  20. So much for seeing Treadwell....
  21. Without serious pitching reinforcements I think I have better odds of achieving time travel than the Twins competing with Dozier performing.
  22. Maybe. I don't know enough to project that. But I'd rather gamble on DeLeon than bleed out Dozier for a few more 90 loss seasons.
  23. Of course no one player or one position is going to magically turn us around. But an ace goes a lot further than some random #4 starter who is ok rather than lousy. Star players make up ground in a hurry and I think you're underselling that by characterizing it as merely a bonus. While I don't want to just dump Dozier for anything, I also know the odds of him being remotely this value are slightly north of 0%. Not finding a way to maximize that now will represent a real loss we might pay for over the course of half a decade.
  24. He doesn't need to "fall apart" to lose value. He just has to do all of these things that are guaranteed to happen: 1) Age 2) Have less team control 3) Not have a career year It's not "if" Dozier will lose value, the only questions are really how quickly he'll lose value and how much he'll lose.
  25. I would call the Ace the sundae not the cherry. What we've been missing for the longest time it top end pitching. Having one isn't just a bonus, it's an enormous difference maker.
