  1. Heh, I wonder how many thinking this about DeLeon did about Buxton. Or Berrios. Or any prospect in a Twins' uniform. The Dodgers could sign Utley, patch the position, and wait to address it later. They don't need 2B. We desperately need pitching to pair with our young prospects.
  2. Absolutely, but it doesn't substitute for action. I feel that notion has been lost of late. I'd also still maintain protesting has become over-used.
  3. Does organizing a protest really lead to that though? Protests are more common and easier to organize because they don't require the kind of long-term buy-in that you want them to evolve into, so if the positive about a protest like this is that it will galvanize involvement in more meaningful ways I guess I have to ask...does it though? And if not, then we go back to Dinger's original point.
  4. It's a good perspective Doc! Last year I didn't want to predict a win total because young teams are so hard to predict. The window of what might be is really wide. I think this year is the same, but I'd feel much better about it if the Dozier deal helped us better situate our roster.
  5. So is the thought to have Jackson start at SG and have Lavine play with the second unit? Otherwise, why?
  6. Congratulations on completely missing his point.
  7. Maybe the next 6 months have a really good forecast? It's 10 months from now that you'll need the window. So you have time to price out the best way to get your window fixed, not only at the lowest cost, but with the best craftsmanship.
  8. Good point. Though I did read something about how much more effective suffering animals are for clicks than suffering humans, but either way you're right, people don't speak that way with their check book.
  9. Absolutely, I wish people would prioritize people first, but by all means take care of animals too.
  10. I wish people would care half as much about kids growing up in terrible homes as they did about animals in shelters. So I'm with you Bark.
  11. Yeah, I agree, it does have to start somewhere. And for some movements I totally understand the act of protesting (though sometimes the tactics are just plain dumb). I think some of the protests today were good too, the guys in the Russian hats were hilarious. At the same time, not everything you don't like is reason to go protest. It sort of dilutes the impact when it's your first resort for anything and everything.
  12. I'm not convinced merit will even matter with Santiago. But I fully agree with your second sentence, hence why I phrased that rotation as my worst nightmare,
  13. I agree.....wouldn't the same logic apply then to protest groups? Sometimes that's easier said than done.
  14. I think part of the problem is the idea that today's version of standing around protesting is "fighting". There are far more effective ways to fight if you want to volunteer your time. Go find someone who shares your views and join their outreach team. Help build a voting base, a scheme that might actually be effective at changing government and policy in the future. Or just organize protests that actually work. The NRA (much to my chagrin) are ridiculously good at pressuring politicians not just with money, but with an onslaught of pressure, phone calls, etc. Some are doing this (BLM comes to mind) to their credit, but not nearly enough. Most of today's protests strike me as more self-indulgent than any real effort to change things.
  15. Let's be honest, how often does anyone "win" a spot? I get that this sort of thing sounds good to toss around, but the reality is that teams don't make decisions that way.
  16. Maybe I'm wrong but he might have been talking about the Dodgers. If the argument is "they have to do something to win the WS" they do have about 6 months to make such a decision.
  17. Maybe it's ok for us not to give a rip about people protesting. I think I'm well to that point. There's a protest group for everything. People are protesting "A Dog's Purpose" for god's sake. I'm sure out there somewhere people are protesting Lego Batman or some other nonsense. If anything has silenced the collective voices of protesters it's their overuse of the strategy. A strategy that was once important, influential, and commendable. Now? Raise your voice in a reasonable way, there are plenty of free, wide spread avenues to do so. Protesting? Meh. I'm over it, I've tuned you out long before you were hucking bricks.
  18. Perhaps, that sort of depends on a variety of factors doesn't it? Either way, I think he's right to suggest this is more luxury for the Dodgers and more need for the Twins.
  19. I don't think anyone here is going to back down one bit from criticizing Trump every step of the way when he does something awful. We certainly haven't so far. It doesn't preclude us from condemning the stupidity of rioting either. Not just because people are being hurt, but because it's counter-productive at best. I tend to think we could reverse a lot of the political polarization and nonsense if we embraced a little more bravery to hold our like-minded selves to a higher standard than we have of late. And that means braving the confrontation of criticizing those you may agree with most. I mean, I hope to god some Republican Senators and members of Congress are going to be wiling to do that.
  20. It's that I worry the combination over there causes it to be worse than we might rate it individually. I agree, the outfield should be better. (Assuming we implant a chip that doesn't allow Grossman to take the field. or Santana for that matter) And I am as optimistic as anyone about catcher. But we've all seen how quickly a bad infield can implode everything. That's what is fueling my worry.
  21. Neither side admits there own, but there is plenty of nastiness and stupidity to go around.
  22. Well this is the crux of it. I don't see how we put Polanco and Sano on the left side and have a better defense. And I'm a big fan of the Castro signing for defensive reasons, but the infield generally sees a much higher volumes of defensive opportunities. And that current left side is scary, regardless of other places that are getting better.
  23. I'm not convinced the D will be better this year. I'd be convinced if Polanco was at 2B and there was an all-glove SS, but without that we might be just as bad. Maybe worse. Teams tend to fall off the cliff much more often than they have 59 loss seasons surge into 80 wins. I mean, it's conceivable of course, but that's a rather low bar.
  24. Kalil is going to get PAID. We're going to have to find some OL somewhere, but it's going to be brutal.
  25. This says nothing about injuries. 80 wins requires a 21 game improvement. And I don't think the pitching just gets better by accident. A great deal of our struggles are baked in with bad defense and a pitching staff that can't strike people out. 21 games. I think people are losing sight of just how enormous that is.
