  1. I don't believe you can really hide defenders like that. You might be able to reduce the odds that their butchery will kill you, but it'll still happen. Why not just save the flexibility for guys that can actually do it?
  2. How does bouncing him around to positions he can't play make the fact that he can't play them any better? Bad defense has been a huge component of our run prevention issues, having ill-fit defenders around the field is a major part of that. I'll keep saying it RB - flexibility is only meaningful if the player isn't terrible at it.
  3. That and May's "legitimate" quote really stuck out.
  4. Right, we moved May because we didn't want to move Pelfrey or any of the other vets. This was a Ryan and Molitor decision that seriously hurt the team.
  5. I think that lesson applies for a great deal of position/role changing in baseball. At least at the professional level.
  6. Huh, for some reason I thought of all those guys as a year younger.
  7. It's a very young team, hopefully they're learning from some of these losses.
  8. Boy, those tweets. They were meant to be upbeat and optimistic and instead I couldn't help but wonder what they're thinking.
  9. Compared to DH it's infinitely more important though.......but why does that matter? We all agree that some positions are more important relative to each other, but that wasn't really the contention. You were among those dismissing the importance at all. I would've hoped the evidence you witnessed last year might have changed that.
  10. Well, the last decade or so of trade history would be a big part of it. And that's been discussed several places. Pitching prospects ranked as highly as DeLeon have not moved for a hitter for a very long time. Hitters, in general, have not headlined deals returning top 50 prospects. When they do, they are either a unicorn (Lucroy) or dealt along with a pitcher. The simple, plain fact is that the history of dealing position players for the last decade or so is not in favor of your hope. Hence why I said, now that we're keeping him, that I hope we buck that trend.
  11. You continue to like posts that affirm my interpretation. Did you mis-speak at first and mean to say we can find a prospect relative to Mejia or did you in fact mean the two have a negligible difference? And that sort of is the point. Because if you mean the first thing....ok, I'd argue DeLeon is already that, but I can see how that could be debated. If you mean the second thing, you're making an absolutely silly comp in response to my point.
  12. I assume baseball has passed a new rule allowing teams to play 3 DHs....right? Otherwise I'm confused.
  13. Is there really a way to spin "Mejia and Berrios are basically the same" into making sense? Because that is what DeLeon/Mejia is.
  14. Well, at least our strong belief that any schmo can play RF has endured despite a host of evidence to the contrary. We will always have that.
  15. Gotta keep it in context. Nick said there was a minimal difference in the prospects themselves. That is preposterous. And we would all agree with that if some Dodger fan said Mejia and Berrios were roughly the same.
  16. I believe DeLeon and Berrios are similar comps. I think I would trade Dozier for Berrios straight up.
  17. Perfectly fair and reasonable position. My comment was more to illustrate the hypocrisy of trying to equate Meija and a guy who comps quite closely to Berrios. If I started a thread and said there was basically "no difference" in upside between those two there would be a riot. And rightfully so.
  18. Hey, I don't mind a "best shape of my life" story! Just don't feed me that every spring training, Speaking of feeding, Miguel looks good, hopefully the power maintains because it looks like he's quite a bit more svelte than last year.
  19. I feel strongly about the role Islam plays, but the path to a solution is the opposite of what Trump is doing. These people seek sanctuary and hope and we are offering them hate. We won't help modernize the faith abroad with grand, public displays rejecting it. I said it in the last discussion - these are the reformers we need so badly and we risk sending them in the opposite direction.
  20. No prospect is a sure thing. You will not get a sure thing arm for Brian Dozier. I can't believe this is being pushed. Would any of you say this about Meija and Berrios?
  21. Per the earlier conversation, Bill Maher's final thoughts tonight absolutely roasted the same things in drjim's article. I can't find a video yet, but it was relevant to our discussion. (And I happen to be a big fan of everything he said, but that's my editorial)
  22. Well, sure, if you're going to present the 30-40ish best prospect and the 100ish best as "not much considerable difference" than sure. I doubt anyone on this board would accept that premise but for this situation. C'mon.
  23. Well, you're just not likely to get the same value later. You're highly unlikely to even get close. I hope we buck that trend though.
  24. We have a lot of needs to draft a guy as a project this year. Consider Teddy the project at this point.
