Minnesota is actually in the lower tier of education funding in the nation and almost always in the upper tier in results. There are a variety of factors, but I would agree funding is not strictly the avenue. But it is THE most important factor in some districts. Our poor and isolated kids do get the shaft by the way we fund things and that would go a long way to pulling up the bottom. So I agree, places like Minnesota, Oregon, Iowa, Mass, and others have it figured out. Others? Well, let's just say where I teach this year, i use a reading text book from 1967 and one of the stories is literally titled "Negroes in America" Wrap your head around that and tell me we don't need some sort of federal oversight.
