  1. Also, it's worth pointing out, that if your basis for this entire thread is that so many players underperformed relative to expectations, there is the answer that perhaps this year they will perform to those expectation. However, there is yet another alternative that we haven't explored: Maybe our expectations are too high/not relevant in the first place. That's the fear of any rebuilding club and it's not like we're immune to it.
  2. I guess I don't see why "according to sources" can't be a purposeful leak.
  3. Perhaps, but even if they pitch well Abad doesn't get you a big return. Those other guys might.
  4. I said "higher", to denote that you have more chance of gaining some upside from them than, say, Boone Logan. You have a better chance to buy relatively low (with cash) and possibly sell high.
  5. Minnesota is actually in the lower tier of education funding in the nation and almost always in the upper tier in results. There are a variety of factors, but I would agree funding is not strictly the avenue. But it is THE most important factor in some districts. Our poor and isolated kids do get the shaft by the way we fund things and that would go a long way to pulling up the bottom. So I agree, places like Minnesota, Oregon, Iowa, Mass, and others have it figured out. Others? Well, let's just say where I teach this year, i use a reading text book from 1967 and one of the stories is literally titled "Negroes in America" Wrap your head around that and tell me we don't need some sort of federal oversight.
  6. This. Do you know how many parents I have (for second graders!) that tell me they "can't" help their kid with their math homework? That the mere fact i have slightly changed how I teach it or the terminology has somehow crippled their ability to add or subtract? Our kids are graduating high school tackling subjects their parents never saw and we're doing work earlier and earlier. I don't find world-wide comparisons all that valid. So some homogeneous culture in Asia or northern Europe has us beat by some test metric? So what? That's not what's important. Or it shouldn't be.
  7. I put some stock into it, but the first three seemed to be regurgitating what the last two said. And the last two were likely getting their info from the Twins. In fairness, the Dodgers were incredibly tight-lipped, so they didn't really have anything but what the Twins were spinning through their beat guys. It's why i hope more comes from the Dodgers, even two reports that are biased are better than one.
  8. Three of the higher upside guys (Feliz, Storen, and Holland) signed with teams that lost 89, 91, and 87 games. I don't buy that we had no chance to sign those guys. Given them more money and a shot at the closer spot.
  9. It's funny to see one person like this who is saying the exact opposite of this. I agree, we're a bit in the dark about whether this was the right or wrong decision. I'm hoping more is leaked from the Dodger's side, because the Twins went silent after a few of their obvious leaks.
  10. For better or worse the new FO has hitched their wagon to this idea. From their Twinsfest comments they think they have a pretty good team here that vastly underperformed. That's a dicey belief to hitch your wagon to. It may end up defining their stay here one way or the other. I, for one, would've liked to see more done this offseason to add assets to the bullpen. I think that could loom large.
  11. You may well be right, but there are two sides to every story and I think one side has been much more active leaking their side. We may never know, but Morosi is the first time something less flattering about the Twins has come out and I think that's important to note.
  12. He's fit, just really far right. So probably unfair to compare the two.
  13. All of them. (But specifically Guroche. And Devos)
  14. I don't agree about that, because I don't know what the Dodgers offered. And neither do you. I hope the Dodgers keep leaking.
  15. Yeesh, that guy is straight out of crazy town.
  16. Actually, early reports had us ask for DeLeon and Bellinger. So Morosi might be reporting subsequent negotiations, which would further agree with Dave. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle rather than believing a narrative completely driven by our media as yours does.
  17. You are definitely spinning Morosi's tweet to fit your narrative. I look at it like this - Now we have a credible report throwing some shade on all the other reports. Reports largely derived from Twin Cities reports mind you. (This would be the first Dodgers-centric one we've seen) And, on top of that, it actually gives Dave's source some more credibility. If the Dodgers choose not to move on and spill more beans about it, I'm going to guess your narrative is going to look less and less cohesive. Just my vibe. (And i hope the Dodgers keep leaking. I want to know more about what went down)
  18. Maybe I'll be wrong, but I'm guessing as the Dodgers hear more and more slanted press on this we'll see more of the sort of thing Morosi put out there. Namely, that the Twins were being unreasonable too. That's what Dave's source says and now Morosi at least confirms that at some point in the negotiations it was true. I don't think history will look kindly on your spin here.
  19. If they dropped one of Alvarez and Calhoun (your words)....wouldn't the negotiations still be involving two of them? Or are you suggesting both teams were hard headed? This all seems to line up with what Dave was saying by the way. I know that doesn't jive with what you want to believe, but Morosi's report lends credence to it. It certainly indicates, if you want to believe the "junk" reporting, that there were two sides being unreasonable in this.
  20. If that's true, wouldn't you be acknowledging the Twins passed on an offer you'd accept? (DeLeon + Alvarez or DeLeon + Calhoun + something) I wonder...Morosi is pretty plugged into the Dodgers, is this the Dodgers finally leaking something of these talks?
  21. Well, I know this much, there are plenty of people that will completely ignore this report. I wonder where in the negotiations that happened. If true, Dave could be right and Calhoun was the sticking point. And if that's true......ugh. I hope we get more post-negotiations leaks on this, just to try and build a clearer picture.
  22. Remember when we used to complain about Dick Cheney the puppet-master? We're on a whole new level with Bannon. There is right-wing opposition galvanizing. The Koch brothers are putting a lot smoke out there about how they will fund candidates against incumbent Republicans who support Trump's big government initiatives. Sometimes the enemy of my enemy....
  23. Many of them might be loving it.
  24. In all honesty, the pace and ferocity of what he's doing has a better chance of disrupting Republican support than anything else. If this was slow played it may be harder to get bi-partisan resistance. We're already seeing wide-spread doubt on the right from Senators, Reps, the Koch brothers, and others. That might be our best, and only, hope.
  25. Shadow GMing from Philly. It's uncanny.
