  1. Why in the world are we bringing Crawford into this? If Willingham is traded it should be for a good prospect or two. The Twins don't need 31 yr old OF'ers that are expensive (even if the Dodgers paid half). The deal that should be made is a marginal prospect for one of their extra starters that the Twins can slot in the #4/5 spot and stop the bleeding.
  2. If I thought that Revere was worth Worley and May then I would have traded both of them also. So far it's been a good offseason. getting a good starter is still the top priority and hopefully they add something in the MI and/or a 7th inning guy during the rest of the offseason.
  3. That's certainly possible but those numbers are much higher than others here have been predicting. Some thought that Marcum might take a 1/8 contract.
  4. The Diamondbacks and Mariners might be top heavy but I'm not sure if I would call them weak after their top 3-4. And they don't just have a good top 3-4, they have 3-4 A/A- prospects. I think I would put the DBacks, Mariners and Rangers ahead of the Twins. The Rays and Jays imo don't have the top prospects and the rest of the prospects are full of question marks or at the lowest levels. I think they are below the Twins. I also think the Cards and maybe the Pirates could be ranked above the Twins.
  5. I would be fine with picking up any of the 3 as salary relief for the Dodgers. they fix the back of the rotation but the Twins also need to pick up a better starter and those could disappear fast.
  6. I don't really get the excitement over Harrison. He had a nice season but overall an .850 OPS in ETown isn't that great for a player that is likely headed to 1B. It's encouraging since scouts seem high on him so I'm guessing he has a nice swing that could carry him. Kepler might have repeated ETown but he's still 4 months younger and he hit for a lot more power and struck out a lot less. I also like Polanco more than Harrison because he has so much more defensive value.
  7. I'm really not a fan of Dempster. Too old and I'm really not a believer in him outside the NL. Instead of dempster I would try to get Lilly for nothing but salary relief. It's only a 1 yr contract so it won't hurt in the future and they aren't going to spend all of the available money this year. But unless the Twins are serious about going after Sanchez, Jackson or Marcum they have to do something. Right now we are seeing a few teams that didn't really need starters taking starters off of the market. There could easily be nothing left for the Twins. 3/33 - Marcum 4/44 - Jackson 5/75 - Sanchez I think this is what these guys will get and I think you just need to do it. It's great to get good value like Willingham but it doesn't make any sense to save money so you can have a 75M payroll. Personally I've liked the contracts that Baker and Haren got. I'm certain that Haren wouldn't have signed a 1 yr contract but they could have made a move with the Angels or tried with a 3 yr contract.
  8. While I expect at least one of May or Meyer to bust it should be pointed out that Manship barely broke 90mph. He made it to the majors because he had a great curveball but that will only take you so far.
  9. We're talking about 3.25M in a season where they will have a very hard time spending their available payroll unless they really plunge into FA. That's more than acceptable since he'll have more trade value at the deadline if he's pitching well.
  10. The only chance is by trading Willingham. I'm not a fan of Lotzkar and I doubt Cozart is available but I think someone out of the Stephenson/Corcino/Cingrani could be available for Willingham if the Reds choose the trade route. I see them signing Ludwick though.
  11. Well I just lost my only closer for next season and I'm not really willing to pay the price for closers in this league. This does free up another roster spot though. Dave - I don't think anything will work out for Ervin. you're prospects are either good or they are bad (worse than guys I'm cutting). I've got someone else interested with more appropriate mid tier prospects.
  12. Are you mixing up the O's and Nats on purpose or accidentally? The Nats already have Mike Morse to play 1B and the O's have a good offense but pretty weak pitching so I don't understand why they would be trading a pitching prospect for a hitter. Regardless of any desperation meter a guy like Gausman won't be traded for Morneau. And not Willingham either.
  13. More importantly than this they need to show that they aren't the 2nd worst team (the Astros are truly awful) in the American league and get back to .500. Even if the division is weak they still have a lot of work to do to get out of the cellar.
  14. The Twins would be punting next season and future seasons if they weren't doing these deals. 2013 was already going to be a rough season but I'm becoming a little more optimistic each day. If they trade one or both of Willingham and Morneau for prospects then I would consider it punting though. there still won't be a lot of pitching and the offense would be looking pretty weak unless Hicks, Arcia, Parmelee and Plouffe significantly overachieved.
  15. I would not mind if we gave him a minor league contract but that is as high as I'll go for someone that has hit like Buterrible for 2 seasons.
  16. I'll pass on Matusz for Morneau. All indications are that he's a lefty RP'er now. Arrieta or even Britton OTOH are more interesting.
  17. You obviously didn't read my previous post and answer to his question. You are right that Revere for Worley is a wash but you neglect to consider that the Twins needed to add multiple starters this offseason. Now they don't need to spend 6-8M/yr on a Blanton type and that money can instead go towards a better starter.
  18. Systems up for top 5 consideration: Pirates, DBacks, Royals (thinned out a little), Twins, Rangers, Mariners and Cardinals. Some others that aren't far behind: Rays, Jays, Marlins, Reds, Cubs (very thin after the top 3 though) and Red Sox. This was just a quick listing. I'm sure that I missed a deserving team or two. Overall I really liked the Twins system before the two trades regardless of pitching/hitting balance. Obviously I like the system a lot more now.
  19. This isn't an option. You don't trade Mauer so you can free up money to sign old, average SP'ers like Marcum and Dempster when you already have the money to sign them. Mauer might be a little expensive at the end of his contract but by 2018 the Twins should be able to have a payroll of 125+M minimum. One reason that Mauer's contract isn't going to hurt that payroll much is that the team will largely be made up of players still in arbitration.
  20. Morneau might not even get you Matusz. Gausman is completely off the table for the Twins.
  21. Not really. He just needs to stay healthy and do what he did last year for this contract to be considered a steal.
  22. I don't understand what the Revere trade has to do with Morneau. he's just as available as he was before. The reason that I don't think Morneau will get traded (in the offseason) is that I don't think a team will trade a good prospect for him (even if the Twins pay half). If they do then he is gone.
  23. Cingrani is no doubt a good prospect but he's a B+ at best since there are questions about whether or not he can stick at starter. Stephenson would be my target even if he was only in low A last year.
  24. Is there some requirement that new prospects need to have an 's' added to their name? Is this like the start of Meyersie, Maysie, Gibsie, etc?
  25. I think they would be laughing at how excited we are about a #4 starter and a prospect with some big mechanical issues to work out. Still it's a great trade for the Twins because Revere is replaceable. Likewise in philly both of these guys are replaceable. i just remembered that a fantasy forum was calling him Vance, Vance Revolution.
