  1. Arcia will probably be in all of the top 100's when they are compiled this offseason. I also think you are overrating may because he was Philly's #2. There are some big issues. He certainly isn't better than Sano, buxton, Hicks, Arcia, Meyer, Gibson and Rosario imo.
  2. Of course. All I'm saying is that I have conservatively ranked Kepler and Berrios. The reason that I say fly up lists is that they could go from outside of the top 100 overall to top 50 prospects next season. Or they could go Angel Morales although they look better than he did. His K's were always a big flag and they were his undoing.
  3. Trading Revere frees up less than a million, to be replaced presumably by someone at half a million - how does this allow the Twins to spend what it takes to get a top starter? They don't need to spend 5-8M/yr to get a #3/#4 starter now. that money can now be focused on the top starter with lesser needs elsewhere.
  4. Doesn't mean you can't have a good hitter on the bench regardless of position although I guess that's impossible if the Twins are carrying a backup 3B along with a futility IF'er and futility catcher.
  5. I'm putting him ahead of Berrios and kepler until they do something in full season ball. May has some big issues though. Berrios and Kepler could fly up this list next season though. 1. Sano 2. buxton 3. Hicks 4. Arcia 5. Meyer 6. Gibson 7. Rosario 8. May 9. Berrios 10. Kepler
  6. I've always liked Reed Johnson as righty platoon player. There really isn't any reason to have Hicks stay in the minors too long and it's really time for Benson to sink or swim so I expect one of them to be up opening day now. RJ would still be nice to have on the bench though.
  7. Updating this for the May trade. He has upside like Meyer (a little less) but far more question marks so I rank him in the Berrios/Kepler tier giving the Twins an awesome top ten. I'm not sure if Willingham or Morneau will also get traded this offseason but this system is becoming great. 1. Sano 2. buxton 3. Hicks 4. Arcia 5. Meyer 6. Gibson 7. Rosario 8. May 9. Berrios 10. Kepler
  8. No, the Revere deal allows the Twins to spend more on the top starter that they target. That's still priority #1, #2, and #3 this offseason.
  9. I don't really understand why trading Revere all of sudden makes this a no doubt rebuild year. The Twins did not have a starting rotation and weren't going anywhere until that was addressed. That would have been impossible to fix w/o trading something away. In some ways this sets the Twins up to make a little bigger splash in FA although I don't expect it. They freed up Span's 5M and filled one of their pitching holes with a guy making the MLB minimum. Fewer holes to fill with the same amount of money allows them to pick up a better player (possibly). They also now have 3 legit pitching prospects that will come up in '13/'14. In addition to that it's also possible that this pushes the Hicks timetable up and many have been disappointed that it didn't look like he would be in the majors early next year.
  10. Trevor May is prospect. Good upside but a mess mechanically according to prospect361 but I'm happy with the deal. Revere was solid but not that good nor should he have been considered a long term part of the team. http://prospect361.com/nl-team-prospects/philadelphia-phillies/
  11. I'm not sure Worley should be considered a significant return but he should be a solid #3/4 to stop the bleeding. Interesting stat that troubles me is that while he has a decent K rate he has an awful swinging strike rate.
  12. I really did not see that coming but depending on the return I don't really disagree.
  13. They are not the only team...
  14. Why can't you spend money when you rebuild? The Twins picked up Willingham last year and now he is worth a decent prospect or two. The rule for signing FA's should be: Will it affect the long term payroll? Will this veteran block a good prospect? As far as the rotation and MI is concerned there are almost no options and nobody will be blocked. I'm all for rebuilding but that doesn't mean the Twins can't sign a couple of veterans (max 3 yr contract) to fill gaping holes in the org. It's possible that these vets can be traded in a year or two for more prospects which wouldn't have been possible if the Twins never got them.
  15. Just because they won't be competitive in 2013 doesn't mean they should avoid FA starters. There is no reason they can't go out and sign a solid pitcher to a 3 yr contract even if that is overpaying. Rebuilding does not mean that every veteran has to be traded regardless of the trade package and FA's need to be avoided. There is virtually nobody that will be blocked by signing a solid veteran starter or two. I think they should consider dealing Morneau or Willingham if the deal is right but they can wait until midseason. They aren't blocking anyone since Hicks and Arcia could use half a year in AAA.
  16. Marcum is actually perfect since he won't require a long term deal. Just because you are rebuilding it doesn't mean that you have to go the Marlins route and not try to win a few games. Marcum clearly won't be blocking anyone decent and it's not like he's going to get this crazy deal like some of the FA starters.
  17. The fact that he's struggled is the only reason that he's remotely available. Home ERA - 5.34 Road ERA - 4.08 In what world is the following expensive and how will he be gone when the hitters are arriving? I hope the new hitters arrive in the next 6 years. 3.2M 5.4M 7.4M 10M 11M option 11.5M option
  18. If you're dumping salary then you usually don't get talent back. I'm hoping that Baltimore would overvalue Morneau enough that they would trade either of these players with the Twins picking up 4+M of the contract. I like Arrieta more though.
  19. Hicks is months away and fills a need cheaply while Morneau fills a need. I wouldn't do it if I was Texas though but I disagree with the HELL NO comment. Holland is exactly what this team needs but I don't think the Twins have the right stuff to pull off the trade now that Span is gone.
  20. I would without a doubt trade Hicks and Morneau for Holland even if his contract wasn't so team friendly. The Twins need to address the future that Morneau isn't part of and Hicks is a nice prospect but he hasn't done anything yet and the Twins have tons of OF'ers. Holland still needs to take the step from solid starter to well above average but I'm a big Holland fan if he can get out of Texas.
  21. I like it how you try to make an argument using all the wrong stuff while ignoring the stuff that matters. The wrong stuff = strength of draft and Boras. The stuff that matters = better command and better change.
  22. I think everyone in this thread needs to realize that you are going to need an Upton or Andrus type player to get Machado and bundy. And Twins don't have the pieces to get Gausman. Schoop might be an optimistic target. Arrieta might as well but the O's need pitching and the Twins don't have any to trade.
  23. McCarthy should get a 1 yr contract for significantly less than haren. That head injury was awful I wouldn't be surprised if he suffers from it long term. I'm surprised that so many are willing to dismiss that after the issues that Span and Morneau have had. Imo he looked like the kind of guy that was going sign a reasonable 3/30 contract before that injury. He might be young but I really question if he was that good before the injury. Mediocre K rate and the Oakland effect.
  24. I wonder how long of a contract he was looking for. i think I still would have gone 3 yrs but I'm wondering if he thinks he is going to be able to next season into a ridiculous 4-5 yr deal at 15+M/yr. I believe that I'm also on record as being disappointed that the Twins didn't get involved when the angels were trading him.
  25. I'm not overreacting to one season. I've never thought his skillset would transfer to the majors. He hit over .300 in one of the most ridiculous hitting environments in the ridiculous PCL. He hit .277 in high A and .300 in low A and rk ball. I really think he is a .270 hitter in the majors with no power or walks. I think you also need to be realistic and realize that the Dodgers have no reason to give him away. You're definitely not getting him for a C prospect (outside the Twins top 15).
