  1. CR keeps rolling. Harrison 2/4 with a 2B and Polanco 3/4 Tyler Jones now has 15K:2BB in 13IP. Duffy was also solid going 8IP, 3ER, 0BB, 4K Ft Myers keeps rolling Rosario 2/4 2B HR BB Sano 2/5 Salcedo rocked in relief NB and ROC both lost with Hendriks not looking that impressive.
  2. Again you are using results instead of projections. The Twins had Liriano and Baker expected to head the rotation with Slowey and Blackburn as solid starters during those years. And there were still others providing depth behind them. Yes, it would have been awesome to buy a front of the rotation starter in FA but that was just dreaming.
  3. I also have no problem with Walker starting last year in the appy league or in CR this year. I'm just not going to get really excited about the numbers that he's putting up. Although he's really hot right now.
  4. MLB debut age is not the debate here. Walker has played against more experienced competition for longer than the guys that he is competing against. College players are pretty much expected to do well in rk ball, short season ball and also to an extent in A ball.
  5. Polanco doesn't walk for the same reason that Revere couldn't walk. It wasn't necessarily bad plate discipline but rather that he hit the ball instead of swinging through the ball. He potentially has more pop though.
  6. I'm sorry that I offended some. The biggest reason that there is no way he should have been in anyone's Twins top ten was that he struck 30% of the time last year and posted a .250BA with a .310 OBP. He's interesting because he has massive raw power but that only goes so far. There is age and there is baseball experience. Walker played 3 yrs of college ball. It wasn't a major conference but it's still 3 yrs of college ball and he's up against guys that came out of HS/int'l prospects and played maybe a year of rk ball and appy league ball. Additionally there is prospect age and league filler age. If you compare Walker to the other Twins prospects he is typically 1-2 yrs older than them. One of them that is close is Niko Goodrum but Goodrum was regarded as a really raw prospect out of the draft.
  7. It's a nice start but Walker shouldn't have been top ten based on a college player beating up on rk ball pitchers. He also posted a 30% K rate against them. So far this year he's looking awesome but he should move up because he's a college player in low A ball. This brings up another issue. Do you promote Walker or Buxton first?
  8. Service time was a consideration before the season started but it isn't anymore. FA is delayed already. Bring Gibson up whenever he is ready. I would prefer that he gets a few more starts in AAA allowing a little of the control to come back.
  9. Can you imagine if they needed more than one run for the win?
  10. Results are different than expectations. they entered 2011 with a healthy Liriano, Baker and pavano. In addition they had Slowey, Duensing and Blackburn available to fill out the back end with Gibson close in AAA. Other seasons the outlook was similar. They might have been missing the ace at the top but they weren't adding that in FA.
  11. This really isn't true. The Twins have had a deep rotation of homegrown pitchers until recently. Usually you don't go out and spend a lot on something that is an organizational depth. Especially when the Twins have until recently been operating with a limited budget.
  12. The trade was all about locking in a player that they desperately needed instead of waiting and hoping that a solid WR that was rated lower on their draft board would still be there at #52. They will figure out what to do at MLB but getting a 2nd good WR was absolutely necessary for the offense. Dave's mistake wasn't spinning it as a good trade but rather that the Vikings didn't give up a lot of value.
  13. Originally the boxscore listed it as a HR and 4 RBI's. Kind of funny that neither Hicks nor Walker bothered to round the bases and stole HR from Harrison.
  14. PH game winning GS by Harrison in the 11th. HR by walker and he's been hot. Goodrum 2/4 2BB's Sano 0/3 3K's BB Pinto stays hot with another HR
  15. Looks like Adrian Salcedo is still available and he interests me this season with the move to the pen.
  16. Pretty much every thread on here thinks most of the player movement will happen at midseason. Injuries requiring roster shuffling could lead to a move earlier though.
  17. Aside from the obvious defensive improvement needed I am interested in how much power he hits for. His scouting reports suggest more of a gap to gap hitter that can rack up doubles but maybe 10 HR's/yr. His rk/lowA stats do not agree with that though. He is also off to a poor plate discipline start with a 16:4 K:BB ratio. Hopefully this starts improving.
  18. So you think Parmelee should have been promoted to AA in 2009? In 2011 Parmelee was repeating AA and had completely sucked in 2010. Pretty much the same story for Benson. Both of these hitters completely sucked in A ball. why do you think they deserved midseason promotions so they can play at 2 levels in a year. I think you are also looking back in hindsight at Hicks 2010 season. IIRC Hicks had an absolutely incredible hot streak early in the season and went into an awful slump. It's hard to promote someone when they are in an awful slump. These players did not deserve to be pushed fast. As a matter of fact they deserved to repeat these leagues.
  19. Or K. I could see him as one of those .290 BA and .325 OBP guys with a little but not a lot of pop.
  20. There are really two things at work here and I am not against the trade. The first is that they gave up a lot of value to move up. I'm not sure that should even be debated. The second is that draft pick value is not equal to player value. It's likely that Patterson is ranked significantly higher than 29th on their draft board. I think it's pretty likely that the Vikings would have picked Patterson earlier if Floyd and Rhodes hadn't slid in the draft. A third factor is that it was pretty risky that a starting WR would have been available at #52 and that was a critical need for the Vikings to do anything this year.
  21. I'm sorry Shane but Hicks, parmelee and Benson weren't earning fast promotions and that's why they moved slow. Parmelee actually needed to be demoted one year to get on track.
  22. Pelfrey wasn't a great pitcher before TJ so I don't understand what this potential payoff is. There certainly isn't any reason to suffer through a 5.00+ ERA if this goes on past May. Or maybe not even that far.
  23. Polanco went 3/4 with a BB to bump his AVG/OPS over .300/.800. My favorite sleeper for the last year. Walker knocked out 2 HR's and despite a slow start is closing in on a 1.000 OPS. I'm usually skeptical of college players destroying rk/lowA ball but at least he's doing what he be doing. Or maybe a little more than he should be doing.
  24. Pinto 3/4 and hitting >.300 now Sano is just ridiculous Rosario went 2/5 with a triple. He's obviously having a great season with a .916 OPS but he hasn't exactly proved scouting reports wrong about him having gap to gap power instead of 20-30 HR power. This is the FSL of course but Target field isn't kind to lefties either. He also has a 16:4 K:BB ratio so hopefully that improves. These aren't issues yet but I will be watching both of these stats (K:BB and isoP) closely this season for Rosario.
  25. I'm just trying to figure out if you actually are making a different argument than most on this board. Skipping Ft Myers would be silly. The only reason you do that is if you want and think Buxton is ready for an early 2014 big league promotion. He is good (great/awesome) but let's not get carried away.
