  1. I actually agree with you that Plouffe is not currently an average defender although I think he can be a merely below average but tolerable defender with a decent to pretty good bat. I find it ironic that Plouffe's defense is being used as a reason to move him yet the alternative is Sano. I have no illusions of him being an average defender and merely hope that he wouldn't be one of the worst 3Bman in the majors if he does stick there.
  2. I find the whole idea of a draft really weird. The top 25 or so guys are all well known and scouted by almost every team but after that it seems like the world is too big of a place to adequately cover. Even getting through the 1st rd could result in difficult picks. Would a team use a top ten pick on Luis Gohara even if they didn't have any scouts in Brazil that had seen him play? To what lengths will teams hide players so they don't show up on other team's radars. I also find this whole slotting thing strange. So basically the Twins can splurge on one really big FA and then only 400ish K on their #2 guy. These are of course recommendations since it's not a hard slotting but it does give the Twins a really good chance at landing on of the top prospects. Half of the teams don't even have an overall bonus pool that matches the Twins 2.25M slot which they can exceed since it is only a recommendation.
  3. It really doesn't matter what defensive metric you use if you are using less than a season of data. I actually find UZR/150 to be the best but I combine multiple seasons of data but it evens out the playing time when comparing against other players.
  4. After 2010 Duensing wasn't that far off from Worley. He had less success as a starter but he seemed like a solid option even if he didn't have great stuff (which Worley doesn't). Wimmers has been a complete trainwreck since he was drafted and is currently recovering from a major injury. His trade value is practically non-existent. you can't just throw quantity together and try to get elite prospects. It just doesn't work like that.
  5. Trevor May isn't even in the top 100 on prospect lists. There is absolutely no way that he is comparable to Cole or even Taillon. These are legit top 25 overall prospects and aren't ranked very far behind Sano/Buxton. Would you give up Sano or Buxton for a guy like Willingham? If you would then you are crazy? If you think Willingham is worth that then you need to re-examine Willingham. He is entering his mid 30's, he has a long history of injuries and he's terrible defensively. He's a nice player but I would consider a top 50 prospect to be a good get for Willingham. I also think everyone on here is crazy for overlooking Alen Hanson in that org. Starting pitching is one need but MI is in pretty bad shape at all levels also. he also is getting close to attainable.
  6. I see that you are applying the Duensing rule with this trade speculation. Duensing rule - including a lot of useful but not great players with very little upside when trades don't even come close to an acceptable offer. Origin - BYTO - About 2 years ago Duensing (and even Casilla) found himself in pretty much every speculated trade. It was getting ridiculous.
  7. Holding his own does not equal correct development (even if only hitting is considered). It is encouraging that all the right things are being said about Sano though. I'm a little concerned that Sano (buxton) mania might go crazy during the next couple of months though. I have less of a problem with Plouffe at 3B than any option in the current MI but if Sano improved a lot defensively then I would have no problem shuffling Plouffe out to the OF.
  8. One of these are not like the other... Cole and likely Taillon are probably not even close to attainable for Willingham. Holmes would only be acceptable as a 2nd (or 3rd) piece. The guy I would target on the Pirates is Alen hanson. I doubt the Pirates would do that but he's the only guy that really interests me (attainable guys). Heredia perhaps but there would have to be a few other really good prospects to go with him. Heredia sounds like the former prospect Deolis Guerra at this point.
  9. My hope is that they spend most of it but I doubt the Twins sign more than one guy in the 1-2M range.
  10. A Kepler promotion (when healthy) could set off a Buxton promotion but I really don't see a reason to promote before midseason. I don't think Buxton figures into the Twins 2014 plan at all and that would be the only reason to push him that aggressive. He would be able to play the whole season (2014) at AA and be ready for a cup of coffee that year if they wanted to push him (still unlikely).
  11. He needs another week or so of AAA time to delay FA another year. Any Willingham trade should be based on the return that the Twins get back. I don't think you will get a productive rookie and a good prospect unless you take a low upside solid rookie (worley for example) and a flawed prospect (May). that's not bad but I would be looking for more of a Meyer type return (a risky potential front line starter). They at least need to get something decent since they can still trade him during the offseason or next trade deadline.
  12. Assuming he makes normal progress I think his earliest debut is September of this year and his latest debut is next June/July. I can see him being the odd man out of a rotation spot in the spring since he will have options while other less talented veterans do not.
  13. There was an excellent article on here about why Pressly has a good chance of going from an uninspiring SP'ing prospect to a successful MLB RP'er. I think the summary was that his fastball would get a nice bump from the move and he wouldn't need to use his change as much (or ever). Right now I would consider it a big win if Pressly became a Matt Guerrier 7th inning type and I hope they don't move him back and forth between the rotation and bullpen.
  14. If Sano is on 30+ HR pace then I think he will get moved up unless the K's skyrocket. It was nice to see that Sano hit his HR off of Syndergaard (top 50ish) prospect. Not a great night from Meyer but he will have nights like this since his control isn't perfect (better than Mays). NBR scored 17 runs and I still don't really care about the boxscore. Pinto had a nice game but their bats are completely uninspriring. CR had a rough night but Buxton just keeps hitting and both Polanco and Goodrum are around .300 BA.
  15. In almost every case involving a young player I would agree. However Hicks has been a special kind of bad.
  16. Borbon might be better than Mastroianni. I like Mastroianni quite a bit but Borbon is a pretty solid player overall. The problem right now for the Twins is that pretty much their only option until Buxton is ready is Hicks (or possibly Benson). If Hicks doesn't figure it out then this supposed strength becomes a big issue for 3 or so yrs. Having a 2nd solid backup is a pretty good option.
  17. Twins MiLB starters (Hendriks, Dean and Summers) on 4/17 - 18 2/3 IP - 1K, 1BB
  18. Twins MiLB starters today - 18 2/3 IP - 1K, 1BB
  19. If Bo had been healthy enough to play 150 games from age 28-33 I think he would have had a couple 35-45 HR seasons. he had big power although his athleticism overrated his actual baseball value. He was an amazing athlete though.
  20. I think you missed the joke.
  21. Imo HOF'ers should be considered as elite at some point in their career. I just don't believe that is true for Pettitte. The main argument in this thread is his WL record that was racked up at the height of some great Yankee teams. Other than that he was a pretty ordinary very good pitcher. I'm not sure I agree that Jr. is the only HOF lock. I can think of two pitchers that are locks (RJ and Maddux). Smoltz and Pedro also should be locks along with Mo. Other hitting locks should be Chipper, Jeter, thomas and probably Thome.
  22. Really? If Hicks gets sent back to AAA at some point in the next month then the Twins have no halfway decent backup OF'er options. They don't even have a halfway decent starting option for as long as Mastro is out. The worst case is that Hicks and Mastro are still up with the Twins in a month and the Twins might lose Wilkin Ramirez to waivers. I would certainly take Borbon over Wilkin.
  23. He got one breather before the game that finally forced Mastro out. Hicks should have been sat a couple more times and in addition to that I would have liked Mastro in the lineup a couple of times for Doumit and once or twice for Parmelee to take Hicks out of the leadoff role. A healthy Mastro certainly would have been used more in the last couple of weeks. I think it's awesome that you like playing with a short bench and cling to the he appeared late in games for a majority of his usage. I think Gardy finally got fed up with Mastro being mostly unavailable and told him to either play or go on the DL. So he played him and it became obvious that Mastro wasn't close to being able to be used as he was needed.
  24. Pat Dean - 7IP, 7H, 1ER, 0BB, 0K - call him up
  25. I have no idea what kind of sarcasm this is meant to portray. My opinion is that Mastro's ankle has been getting mentioned as a nagging issue for 3 weeks and he's barely played. And Hicks has clearly needed a breather to sort things out.
