  1. Gomez is going to need a hell of a lot more than one decent season and an unsustainable hot start to have been a net positive since 2008. If I sign a free agent to a sizeable six year deal, and he's Rondell White for the first five and Babe Ruth for the sixth, I'm still down.
  2. I think most people are missing the real problem here. Gardy is upset that a young outfielder isn't meeting his standards. That young outfielder's instructor? That's right, failed hitting coach, failed third base coach, failed bench coach Scotty "Swing Like a Man" Ullger. Gardy's answer to Richard Solomon. If Gardy wants to blame someone for problems in the outfield, or can't figure out why a guy might think there is no accountability on the team, maybe his top priority shouldn't be finding a way to keep his little buddy in the clubhouse no matter how incompetent he proves to be.

Fine. I don't believe that fielding percentage is the sole measure to define anything for hitters.

I have no idea who or what you are arguing against.

I can't see a reason to make a semantic distinction between luck and random variation.
  6. What business are you referring to, exactly?
  7. Mastroianni remains sidelined by bruised ankle | twinsbaseball.com: News Mastroianni makes first start, bats leadoff | twinsbaseball.com: News Darin Mastroianni still not game-ready - CBSSports.com
  8. I've never really been a fan of any of the more convoluted regression based stats. I'd rather the number have some actual meaning.
  9. Rafael Palmeiro was awarded a Gold Glove in 1999. You don't need any more metrics to discount that designation.
  10. It is if you want to keep the sportswriters from pointing the finger at you. Managers have been doing it for 100+ years.
  11. Not as a middle linebacker who isn't particularly fast. It is a situational position at this point. You aren't drafting a guy you hope to be a great nickel cornerback in the top ten.
  12. No, it means that managers don't do jack squat and the Twins should save what's left of their ever shrinking budget to sign better players.
  13. A ball hit in play with a high BABIP results in a lower WHIP than a walk does.
  14. He didn't try to play through the injury. He was not able to play a full game for more than a few games, and everyone was aware of that. That's why this isn't on him or on the training staff. It is on the coaching staff and front office. Marginal player X isn't able to play at full capacity for more than a game or two, replace him with marginal player Y until marginal player X can play again. If you don't have marginal player Y, you should be fired for not having forseen that a player might go on the DL at some point in the season.
  15. I can't believe the Twins are still doing this crap. At some point, can someone not understand that there is absolutely no point in keeping all of these marginal players off the disabled list? They've done it with Tolbert, they've done it with Casilla, they've done it with Mastroianni...who cares if they end up being on the DL a few days more than necessary? You lose nothing. If you can get Mauer for an extra few days, that's one thing, but losing Darin Mastroianni for an extra week will have no impact on the team. As it is, the Twins did see a negative impact from not having a healthy player with the team for over two weeks on an already short bench.
  16. Without knowing the "rules," I wrote down "Troy Percival" in my brain. Career .402 OPSA vs. the Twins.
  17. SSS was his problem here, he can hit enough to be in the majors. I like him as a backup 1B, SS, 3B.
  18. Having Brendan Harris would make the Twins better.
  19. Gardy is not good at the few minor things managers do that impact the team, and there is no reason to keep him around.
  20. At least the Twins' front office has a high bar to clear to for you. If some guy on a message board can't beat out JR, they are doing a bang up job.
  21. Don't you work in computers or something?
  22. Managers are not a significant influence on the team. Gardy is thought of as a good manager because the team won the division several times. It has nothing to do with anything specifically attributable to him. When the players were good, they won. When they weren't, they lost. There is no common thumbprint on the team over the past dozen years. No discernible emphasis aside from Anderson's pitching-on-the-cheap no walks strategy.
  23. It's actually $20 now, two years ago it was $10.

I don't know why a college team would want Flip Saunders.
