  1. If the front office didn't feel the need to sign Shoemaker, he probably would have been in the rotation at the start of the season.
  2. The last year or so the FO had made some really poor decisions regarding the pitching staff. There may be a thousand reasons for this, but this is the outcome. I really wonder if they can see beyond their spreadsheets. Do they ever look at mental toughness, work ethic, or other intangibles? Maybe they do, but if Dobnak is an example of this, well...
  3. Ultimately, the FO is open to criticism when they have an offseason like we just experienced. Sure, they thought they were making the correct moves. Frankly, I would probably give them a grade of "D". In professional sports, it's all about the results. They are not at fault for the injuries, nor are they responsible for drafts that took place before they were in place. But they still had a not so memorable offseason.
  4. Here are two alternate options: 1. Re-sign Rich Hill instead of Happ...probably save 5-6 million. Hill pitched well last season, and was a known quantity to the team. The FO probably could have got him for 2-3 million. 2. Use Ober, Dobnak, Thorpe as the 5th starter instead of Shoemaker. That trio would not be worse than Shoemaker. 3. The money saved on Happ & Shoemaker could have been used on bullpen help. We still wouldn't be 15 games over .500 if the Fo followed this path, but we would be in a better position than we are now. I sincerely hope that every extra dollar is used on pitching this offseason.
  5. Pretty simple, sounds like the numbers for a BAD team...which they are.
  6. Compare Sano's and Ortiz's progression. Look at the numbers put up by Ortiz at age 26-27. You can clearly see his improvement. Compare that to Sano's production now and his lack of progression. If I had to bet, I would not expect Sano to even sniff going forward what Ortiz did.
  7. I am assuming you mean don't trade him now, but wait until we get closer to the deadline so we could possibly have multiple bidders. That makes some sense. There are a few of guys I would love to see gone by the deadline, either by trade if they have value, or DFA'd if they don't and they are still performing poorly.
  8. I would add Kepler to that list, but everyone else is fair game. I'm afraid we are stuck with Sano for another year.
  9. We have no chance winning more than 1 game in KC. They look like a team that could potentially have a winning season. As I said before the next 10 against teams with winning records should put this season to bed.
  10. Time to focus on the young guys and see what veterans get traded. Ohh, and let's see if Sano can get to the Mendoza line.
  11. Sano. 2 for his last 33. He is no longer a MLB quality player
  12. I don't know about trading away everyone(yet) but I do know this. Do not bring back any of the free agents signed this year(Cruz, Happ, Colome, Robles, Shoemaker, Simmons). Do not offer arbitration to Duffey or Theilbar. Arbitrate Berrios, Buxton, Garver(as long as he continues to improve) and Rogers. Offer Big Mike another 2 year contract. We have the young guys(Kiriloff, Larnach, Gordon, Lewis, Alcala, Thorpe, Blalazovic, Duran, Jeffers, Colina, Ober). Maybe some others will rise quickly. Then the guys under contract or those who should be back(Maeda, Polanco, Kepler, Donaldson, Dobnak, Austudillo, Arraez). Those named above will most likely be the majority of the opening day roster. They key will be how the FO fills the remaining slots. They MUST do a better job in free agency. Obviously any one of the above listed(not including the prospects) are subject to trade at any point. However, it has to be for high quality arms, period.
  13. I think it might be time to start sharing DH duties. Cruz doesn't look good at the plate, and his power numbers are down. He is not part of the Twins future, so let's give others more DH at bats.
  14. There was never a real window for this team, other than the 307 home run season of 2019. That will cover whatever weaknesses the team had. Last year, it was pitching that led the team to a 36-24 record. Twins dropped from 2nd to 18th in runs scored last year, but the pitching was so good it covered the offensive regression. So far this season, the Twins are 10th in runs scored, but we have seen all their failures in key situations. Add in a serious lack of pitching, defense, and the intangibles winning teams display, and we have what we have. We have seen good things from Kiriloff, Larrnach, and moments of promise from some of the other young guys. But, this team has no chance if Donaldson, Sano, Cruz, & Buxton don't produce. Taken as a group, they, for many reasons, have not.
  15. Shoemaker...I do not like his mental make-up. Today was his 10th start. In his 5 bad starts, it seems he gets himself in trouble, and he cannot work himself out of it. It's as if he gets frustrated and loses focus, in my opinion. It's too bad he can't start against Detroit only, 11 IP, 1 ER. Everyone Else 39 IP, 33 ER.
