Go to the Baseball Factory Home Page and they have their collecting Gizmo at over 23% of the votes counted. Maddux, Glavine, and Thomas are going to make it and Biggio is in good shape at over 80%.
It's not even close to being the most exciting play? More times than not its a dick move by the runner who doesn't even need to make contact with the catcher.
If it wasn't a given before I think this means Hicks starts in Rochester no matter how well he hits in spring training. The one thing I don't like is Davis doesn't fill the lead-off void or a good second place hitter if they decide to hit Dozier lead-off.
I've never fully understood the he was a Hall of Famer without steroids argument. It sounds like an excuse, and I can personally can't separate Bonds or Clemens from Sosa or Palmeiro. What we would do is different than what the voters will do. My guess is Maddux, Biggio, and Glavine are chosen by the writers and Joe Torre by the Veterans committee.
Mike Mussina isn't getting nearly the respect that he deserves. Compare his overall numbers with Tom Glavine. The numbers besides wins are very comparable and in a few instances Mussina was better. Please note that both pitchers would be on my ballot.
I wouldn't blame Mauer if he didn't want to be the 'catching guru' when he's no longer a catcher. That's why bringing in a solid veteran to mentor Herman and Pinto and let Mauer focus on playing 1st Base.
With what's going on in Miami do the repercussions possibly carry over into other sports like major league baseball? Most of the hazing seems fairly harmless. I do wonder if teams sometimes cross the line between fun and humiliating with some of the outfits rookies have to wear.
