  1. Let's see: - Robo-umps - Pitching clock - Limited number of substitutions per game - Mandatory roofs due to climate change - Banning of smokeless tobacco from the game - DH in both leagues - Banning of religious activities in the ballpark - Pay for performance MLB contracts - Livable minimum wage at the minors - Global draft with 18 minimum age - 30-man and 50-man rosters replace 25- and 40- - Easier free agency rules
  2. Part of the reason that my mid-season list is noted as preliminary is that I look at existing full season league players in June. I adjust the top 30-40 later as well as draftees and IFA come. Miranda had a pretty bad first half (OPS <.700) and that's the reason here. He did heat up lately, but did not make it to the top 40 more me to have a look. During the off-season I will look into it more. Definitely the slow start is an issue here.
  3. I would prefer the Twins to win each and every game. Dozier is dragging them down.
  4. Agreed. Fact: He lost 20 lbs in a month at Fort Myers working his ass off. Haters will hate.
  5. Forgotten that in the last game he did not drive runners when it mattered twice. But everyone remembers the grand slam. That would had been unnecessary (along with the extras) had he driven runners in before...
  6. Cheap Shot indeed. Intended towards the Twins' AAA team and their marketing practices, and not Sano.
  7. I think that you are mixing facts with opinions, hopes, and wishes
  8. It will matter if they do not get anything for Dozier, Escobar, Lynn, Santana, Rodney, Duke, et al. At this point even if they make the post-season, there is no way they get past two of the Yankees, Red Sox, and Astros. Enough with the one and outs and the almost good enoughs. Had enough of those the previous decade. About time to start thinking about having a really competitive team in 2019, get 4-5 new players and play players who are about to depart as MiLB like Vargas and Stewart to see if they can be counted as part of the future. Would suck to give up on a fourth overall pick and go some place else and flourish, while wasting MLB innings for the likes of Matt Belisle.
  9. Are you sure that it was luck and not karma? Remember his whining about not being extended during the off-season?
  10. I will be surprised if he is not with the Twins as soon as the first of Dozier or Escobar get dealt. 10 days max. Last thing you want is Sano around Rochester Garbage Plates.
  11. Or he had nothing to do with the decision...
  12. Facts never bothered Russo: Facts: Among the 21 qualified second basemen in the majors and , Dozier ranks: 12th in fWAR, 13th in wOBA, 12th in wRC+, 13th in OPS, 16th in Contact%, 17th in infield fly ball percentage, 15th in WPA, and 21st (dead last) in fangraphs Clutch Fact: Dozier is a below average second baseman in the majors, this season. What he did previous seasons, makes people hope that he will have an above average second half, despite the facts. I hope that someone is willing to give the Twins something in return, but even De Leon would have been better than what the Twins will get if they keep him until the end of the season..
  13. Which makes Radcliff's comments in JoeC's report at least inaccurate
  14. Spending $35 million on Escobar and Dozier, while you can have them for about half to a third of that next season and at least one of them will not fit in 2019, will be a "bargain"? Please explain.
  15. Knowing the Phillies top 3 levels pretty well, I think that if the Twins get Franklyn Kilome and lefty Tyler Gilbert for Escobar, they will be set in the pen for a while. Kilome is miscast as a starter. Put him in the pen and you will get a dominant closer with consistent triple digit velocity. He threw 102 as a starter at Reading last month. Mark my words: the next best closer out there
  16. I just have a hard time getting the logic that any return for Escobar (or Dozier, or Lynn, or Morrison, or Rodney or Duke, etc) at this point is not better than nothing in return at all. 2018 is gone. Nothing prohibits the Twins of signing Escobar as a free agent for 2019 (and beyond.)
  17. The MLB network in their Twins' ST special in the 40 clubs in 40 days devoted a segment on the subject and Dozier was their guide discussing the dietary changes that the new FO brought on. I suspect that it might be canned either at MLB.com or at youtube. Really good stuff.
  18. In a back field. They play at the field used by the AAA team during ST. This season is a brand new field with brand new technology that was Bill Smith's last accomplishment with the Twins and was named after him. It is right next door to the academy building where most of the GCL players live.
  19. I think that John Hicks should be included in the confersation, even Steve Pearce, since the other Hicks was brought up. Totally agree that the Twins should see what they have in the minors, esp. as impeding free agents like Kennys Vargas and Kohl Stewart (to name just a couple more names) go. They can DFA Morrison and Belisle now and replace them with these 2 guys and nobody will blink.
  20. The Twins are on record saying that Sano will go to a higher level when he reaches his goals, on three levels: hitting, fielding, and conditioning. He is (before his family leave) on a 3 day rotation: 1 day he plays at third base, the next he DHs, and the third he is doing conditioning drills. HIs total slash line is fairly irrelevant because he is trying different things, like hitting the ball to all fields. This is extended Spring Training for him. He bought in and working hard according to all reports. He is even warming up pitchers when he is DHing. Situation not that different than Santana's IMHO. They were both recovering from injuries/surgery last off-season and did not have time to get in shape. The Twins would have done Sano a favor if they kept him in EST till he was ready. On the other hand, I wonder how much the proven false accusation circus led them to the decision to keep him with the team as one of the "family".
  21. Never say never. Seriously. Based on what the O's got for 2-3 months of Machado, the Reds should be nuts not to make Suarez available. The same with the Angels and Simmons. The latter can go after Machado next offseason...
  22. Unless the Reds make Eugenio Suarez and the Angels Andrelton Simmons available...
  23. He is 91-92 or so with the fastball. You see guys like him and Slegers (and Tyler Robertson and Jim Rauch before them) and you think mid to high 90s as a par...
  24. Ober is definitely one of these guy that I will re-evaluate this off-season. His second half has been trending really nicely. I will need to figure out what was up with the first half. Looked a lot like Aaron Slegers last season and in Spring Training. Big guy with little fastball...
