  1. I was just thinking recently how there might be a larger % of intra-division games and how a compressed season with fewer off days and greater potential for double-headers could favor a deep club like the Twins. Maybe enough to offset the greater potential for variability. More teams could also give the Twins a better chance to face a team besides the Yankees in round one. Let's get this started already!
  2. Yeah, anticipating a decent drop tomorrow. Funds won't appear in my Roth IRA account until Monday so I'll need to figure out when to pull the trigger on selecting my investments. The virus scare may start to subside as China and Korea are on the road to recovery. Not a lot of rationality out there so hard to say what direction the market will go.
  3. My plan will only let me covert my traditional 401K to a Roth IRA, which may be better than a Roth 401K anyway. Haven't heard much talk about converting to Roth but seems to make a ton of sense. Appreciate the positive feedback here as I get ready to make the move tomorrow. Also switched my furture contributions to a Roth 401K. Might as well try to made some lemonade. I also don't have to feel guilty about taking advantage of panicked sellers. Just shrinking the share of the pie going to Uncle Sam if all goes well.
  4. A bit off topic but thought I'd throw an idea out there that might help some. Rather than buying individual stocks, I've been considering using that money to pay the tax on converting a portion of my traditional 401K to Roth 401K. Then when the market bounces back, all those gains will be tax free. Not all employers offer the Roth 401K and I still need to check if they allow a conversion, but this seems like a nice way to take advantage of current market conditions. Or if you've ever been waiting for a good time to start or contribute toward a Roth IRA, timing won't get much better. You can make your 2019 and 2020 contributions up until the tax filing deadline.
  5. Twins so nice they can't lose thrice (in a row)
  6. Assuming the W, this is just the kind of game that was needed. They have been paying the price for the 17 inning win with no off day to regroup and starters struggling.
  7. Never much doubt. Twins don't lose three straight. Good night all! I mean good morning?
  8. GB DPs on JM night. If they really want to honor him, they should be grounding to 2B.
  9. Hang up the phone. Think we found our shutdown reliever!
  10. I was thinking the exact same thing. Those apparently meaningless games when they let victory slip through their fingers are looming very large right now. I console myself with the thought that this current squad is not built for a playoff run and would fold quickly anyway. But this truly is a group you can never count out, pardon the cliché.
  11. Who would have imagined this team would rise after the epic meltdown to start the second half? I feel guilty asking for more, but we're sooooo close.
  12. That was enough to get me temporarily out of hibernation! Been a fun team to follow this year! Certainly wasn't expecting the season we've been enjoying so far
  13. Would be nice to see Bortles or Bridgewater fall to #8 but not counting on it. Thankfully, I'm seeing few mock drafts these days linking the Vikings and Carr. Think they could trade up in the second round and get him. There will be some solid options at #8 even with the top QBs gone, particularly on the defensive side. The one good thing about having needs pretty much everywhere is the top talent available to choose from is very likely to fill a hole.
  14. The defense is clearly a huge problem and can be addressed after the first round. Good defenders at any position don't impact defenses like good QBs impact offenses. Although immediate success from a rookie signal caller happens rarely outside the "can't miss" prospects, QB should be top priority. But I don't want to see them reaching either when there are so many holes to fill. If Carr, Bortles, or Hundley is on the board at #8, they will have a tough decision. I like Cassel over Ponder, but he is still in the bottom 10 starters. A team this far from making a legitimate run doesn't need a stopgap behind center today if they can draft a leader who can grow on a team going nowhere in the near future.
  15. So I click on the link above and get a few chuckles. Then I click on a couple other articles off in the margin and discover I've stumbled upon a goldmine. Well, not really, but it is some pretty good reading by my standards anyway. Accolades to you, Brad!
  16. Vikings should be at #3 after this weekend since Washington plays Atlanta. Even at #4, if Houston passes on Bridgewater (not impossible) and nobody trades up, he wears the Purple in 2014. The draft boasts multiple franchise QBs, but who will they be? Too bad Mariota didn't declare. Carr is a strong candidate, but probably not top 3 when there will be at least one of the defensive studs sitting on the board. I'd be happy with Clowney or Barr. They may still get a decent QB prospect early in round 2 (risky) or trade back into round 1. Don't see much indication they plan on giving Freeman a shot next year, but maybe they roll the dice if the draft doesn't cooperate.
  17. Finally, a true land of hope and promise! Just need to sneak in before construction of the 20-foot walls.
  18. I was worried it was going to be this
  19. With the way the defense has played, the year is probably lost anyway. But maybe they can contend for the 6th spot if Freeman clicks with the receivers quickly. At least this sends the message that Ponder's leash is a short one.
  20. The tried and true "crazy person" argument. Show me the crazy. Asking Congress to live by the law as originally written until Obama unilaterally exempted them? Removing a tax on medical devices that actually improve healthcare? Funny how simply enrolling in Obamacare has been an ordeal despite ample time to prepare and less online traffic than anticipated. A taste of the incapable bureaucracy come. And if the Left is so weary of appeasement, why the concessions to some of the most brutal thugs in the world? Obama reached out to the new leader of Iran for discussion but won't afford the same courtesy to democratically elected leaders in his own country. I find that far more illuminating than this silly article.
  21. If that is the huge concern, where was the mandate that folks carry catastrophic insurance rather than a plan they may not be able to afford or even want? That approach suffers from the flaw of not enough young subsidizing the old, similar to Social Security. We see how well that scheme is working out.
  22. Levi beat me to the punch. I could just as easily ask how a Christian could support a bill that will take from the young and often struggling. I fail to find the morality in running up bills for the next generation to pay. Hopefully, the youth seduced by messages of compassion, fairness, etc. will realize it’s coming out of their wallets, assuming they enjoy the good fortune if earning a decent living.
