  1. Another issue is that those people in the less-populated areas may represent a small percentage of the population, but they show up on election day in droves. I was astounded recently to hear that a local issue-specific special election in the middle of the spring drew over 80% voter turnout in my very rural county. That means a lot of people had to drive into town on a Tuesday in what was prime corn planting season in order to cast their ballot, and they found a way to make it work. Those people speak loudly in the voting booth, whether they're educated on the issues or simply voting their party of dedication.
  2. You can think what you want, but the Yankees were legit tools to him as well, to the point of having lawsuit filed (and subsequently withdrawn) by ARod's representatives for defamation - not MLB, not MLBPA, not anywhere else. ARod would have been completely justified in sitting at the end of the bench until next year for $30M. He also could have gone elsewhere if the team released him and ate the salary and possibly been a PR nightmare for the Yankees, so this was the best case for the Yankees, which is why they were willing to financially do what they did for him.
  3. Finished the series. Even though it's not really my genre of show, the 80s retro was done so, so, so well! Glad I read the reviews here as I likely would have passed over this without reading here.
  4. The crazy thing was that Liriano had legit no-hit stuff that day as well. He was walking guys, but his stuff was wicked as well. Then that night opened up with an incredible storm that ABSOLUTELY POURED as my wife and I attempted to find a laundromat at the midpoint of our trip. Good marriage building right there.
  5. I had to do the same thing in DC, but no tearing out as that game was Max Scherzer's no-hitter (and near perfect game).
  6. Watermelon is one of those things that has such a unique texture that I cannot eat it anymore. I got sick on it once, and ever since, the texture has made it impossible to eat.
  7. I keep score at every game, and I found the Eephus scorecards after seeing the quality of in-stadium scorecards go down drastically. My wife noticed this on our stadium tour honeymoon last summer - the vast difference in the offering to a fan wanting to be involved in the game. Instead, I scored the Braves/Twins games in a very nice quality scorebook that reminded me of the quality of a pro scorecard that I had utilized a couple times in college when offered the opportunity to score at games.

  12. There are certain activities in most marriages that you find that one person cares much more about than the other. I had three bins for clothes for laundry...my wife had seven. She washes clothes. I roll every pair of socks together and hang every shirt as well as folding fairly particularly. I, therefore, fold the laundry. It makes good sense.
  13. The TV show was markedly better.
  14. South Dakota State University was the inventor of cookies and cream ice cream, and they also were the first to add flavor to the "cream" part of things, so they have cookies and mint, cookies and caramel, cookies and chocolate, etc. My favorite is the cookies and mint, and a local grocer carries a number of flavors from SDSU throughout the year. Whenever they get in mint and cookies, I fill the freezer with it as a treat to have.
  15. Thank you very much! It's something I've seriously kept off of Facebook and all that stuff, other than when I was able to celebrate with my $100+ scotch, which was to celebrate the 100+ loss, but it was fun to show up to work at the music festival I work security for each year this year and have one of the guys come up to let me know that he didn't honestly recognize me. That felt pretty good. We have a fun community around here, and many of the guys here I've known since we were debating whether the Twins best player was Koskie, Jacque, Lawton, or Torii. I've hung around as the "resident Braves fan" even after moving out of the Twin Cities area.
  16. Started in mid-November, but really did nothing but work on eating stuff until March/April. Then I started doing lots of walking. I won free training hours at the gym I've paid for and not used for multiple years, which got me in there and doing the power lifting I love doing in a way that was healthy and safe to slowly get back into, and now my wife and I are signed up to do a 5K over Labor Day, so I'm working in Couch-to-5K training into things as well. I'll likely be more bike and sports than intentional jogging going forward for cardio, though, as I was an offensive lineman in college BEFORE I added the weight, so the distance running on my joints and back is rough. It started really because I wanted to be healthy for future children, and lo and behold, we now have a foster baby in our house, and no way I could handle moving around after him and with him in my arms with the weight I was carrying 8 months ago.
  17. So far...more to go, but that will allow me a bottle behind a locked case!
  18. Basically, don't drink any scotch you can get at a bar that you see someone wearing jeans or a t-shirt at. That's the best advice for truly appreciating scotch. You have to try GOOD scotch to understand it.
  19. Basically the only candy I do now, but that's a personal choice for lots of reasons. One of those reasons involving a 32-year-old bottle of scotch I got to crack recently to celebrate crossing the 100-lb loss mark.
  20. Braves and Padres deal is very intriguing to me. So with Olivera moving on from the Braves, there have been three guys suspended by the league under the domestic violence policy. None have played another game in the majors for their owning team at the time of the incident. Perhaps MLB is actually tough on domestic violence, contrary to what Keith Law's Twitter would have you believe.

  22. Anyone I talk to who has any link to New York says they've been waiting to bring down the hammer on the Cardinals since this came out, as this wasn't just a Correa thing, but he took the blame for it. I've heard everything up to and including the loss of their entire 2017 draft is on the table for punishment.
  23. The White Sox have done this with Sale and with Rodon in the past. I guess they think they know what they're doing...
  24. I put up a top 50 for Call to the Pen over July 4th weekend. I only had two Twins on my list.
  25. You're obviously not familiar with the Republican party...
