  1. Your YouTube is going to be a very good source for my mock drafts (first one comes out Monday, just saying...)
  2. I have a 5 y/o like that. Doesn't seem to understand that sleep = better behavior = not losing things you enjoy during the day, and so the cycle goes....
  3. A musician taken way too early, Avicii, at 28.
  4. Our first foster was a baby that was just short of 5 months old when he came in the house. The pug took instantly to him and was immediately his protector. Instead of running to the gate at the top of the steps to bark at any opening of the front door, he would bark, and then sprint next to the baby, then run a bit away to bark, then return to the baby (as if he didn't want to upset the baby too much by barking too near). Our poodle did not take to the baby right away, and often walked right over (as in, on top of) the baby to get to us as we played with the baby on the floor. She was startled by the sudden and uncontrolled movements the baby would have, and she stayed a distance from him. Then, she did this (nevermind the John Oliver on in the background LOL): https://youtu.be/Ydum_57LP6I
  5. Someone I got to work alongside a lot during my time working with women's athletics. Great representative for the school as a student, but absolutely wise beyond her years already at that point.
  6. Heck, the state of Minnesota can claim being the founder of cheerleading...at the University of Minnesota.
  7. Rusty Staub, ex-Mets great, dead at 73
  8. Max Murphy was released, per Baseball America. He and Del Rosario were the two biggest surprises to me. Murphy might have 5th outfielder upside at the MLB level, but he's a very good outfield defender who hit .280/.360 last year (not much for power, but still). A solid defender like that may not make your major league club, but he's certainly valuable for your young pitching as they move through the system. Del Rosario is a surprise in that when he is on, he has the look of a solid mid-rotation to back-rotation starter. I wrote this piece last summer on him just after his promotion up to Fort Myers, but basically from that point on, he collapsed hard with his control.
  9. Sadly, that's the case for many people, and it's not out of bounds to say that by any means once you deal with it. Even the guy who trains foster parents on ICWA from the state and works in their department is not a fan of many of the actions taken by tribes.
  10. We've heard of multiple similar situations. One of the blessings is that we've been through the ICWA part of things. In one of our sibling groups, the ICWA trainee for the state for foster parents volunteered to testify on our behalf because ICWA couldn't get someone to show and he was highly impressed by our correspondence with him post-training on ways to connect our children (represented by three tribes in SD) to their home tribes. His push got things rolling.

  12. The crap of the issue - I have 5 foster children currently, all working toward adoption, all with varying degrees of Native blood coursing through their veins. My wife and I are about as white as white can get in our personal backgrounds and heritage, but certainly want to ensure their culture is taught to them and experienced. However, when we reached out to their tribes of registry, the response has been a very mixed bag. One tribe was incredibly excited to work with us to welcome us for various things - meetings with elders, special holidays, education programs in home, etc. Other tribes treated the inquiry as if I was attempting to "steal" their children from them. Now, I've found out since that in the case of one particular tribe, I was not routed to the best person to talk with, but still, it's telling to me that in genuine desire to allow our children to understand, experience, and live out their cultural heritage, we're being blocked due to underlying mistrust of the entire "white" race.
  13. My mom said that once about men...heard her talking to...wait...damn, that was my now-wife. Well, someday I might figure out there's a gate on this fence.
  14. ....and this doesn't just end once the dog is chosen. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, and made even harder when the people who got her ended up abusing her, but when I was starting my married life with my wife and moving to town, I had to give up my German Shepherd to someone who I knew would have a lot of room for her to run. She'd lived for years on a farm with the country mile between the old farmhouse I was living in and my parents' place being free domain to run (and often she'd end up all the way over at my parents and get a car ride home). There was no way I was going to force that beautiful animal into apartment living, but the old farmhouse was going to be torn down, so me staying out there was not an option, and finances didn't allow for building in the country at that time (or now, frankly, but that's a whole other story). Good ending to the story is that she ended up being dropped out of a vehicle by those that abused her and ended up at the home of a couple that cared well for her and hooked her into a young farm family with kids to play with her and space to roam.
  15. I shared this on Twitter, but I thought the link may be appreciated here on Twins Daily in general. I took a lot of the local team lists and national team lists along with the national overall lists and positional rankings list and put together a Google docs sheet with all of the Twins prospects to see how they rank when you compile all rankings together: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oyRIammk_aaIvVMHq4Jr1NLYYAVU8j27kVYyiW6Hw00/edit?usp=sharing This has rankings from a host of folks here at TD, including all the rankings from the prospect handbook, the TD top 20, and a few folks on the site as well that have their own published lists. Enjoy!
  16. And then signed his name with a dollar sign after asking the kid $10 in order to sign his hat. (sarcasm....truth based sarcasm, but sarcasm)
  17. It wasn't a specific question for the interview. Not something secret or anything, just chit chat before the actual interview.
  18. In my interview I did with John last year, he talked off-record about how he struggles in doing overall rankings to not be too hard on Twins in order to hide his own fandom of the team, so he sometimes feels he has Twins lower than most because he doesn't want to appear a "homer". FWIW, In my recent top 150 on Call To The Pen, the Twins were tied for the 3rd most players on the list behind the Braves (1st) and White Sox (2nd) with 8 players on the list.
  19. I think that's drastically underselling Severino, but that's also not surprising for MLB.com to be low on those types of guys.
  20. The more scout-sided an eval is, the more they seem to like Diaz. It's a very, very nice swing. One of the prettiest ones in the entire system.
  21. The discussions of Putin roughly half way down this transcript (roughly 49:30 on the video) are exactly why our screaming and raving about Russian interference falls on deaf ears throughout the world: https://russia-insider.com/en/kremlin-publishes-full-megan-kelly-putin-interview-nbc-cut-best-parts-video-transcript/ri22747
  22. Perhaps not on a stat sheet, but he showed a maturity on the mound and in his sequencing that you normally don't see from a guy pitching in a full-season league with so few pro innings under his belt, even the best of the best elite prospects. He truly blew me away with his composure on the mound. I did put together a scouting report on him last summer after watching a few starts: https://puckettspond.com/2017/07/15/scouting-report-minnesota-twins-rhp-griffin-jax/ One thing to note...in my research for that piece, I had Jax with military commitment running this season and next as well.
  23. A couple tips/advice/etc.... 1. If you're training him to be used to you heading out for a bit, leave some portion of the normal noise and/or light level on while you're out. Slowly you can reduce that, but right away if they're used to hearing music whenever you're home and suddenly it's silent, that can be a big trigger. 2. For cleaning, if you have a spot carpet cleaner or the full-size personal use variety, a good way to spot treat immediately on dribble (or more than just dribble) is to put down a light layer of vinegar on it, and then sprinkle baking soda over the top and let it sit for a few hours before vacuuming up. Once that's up, you can then clean with the carpet cleaner, but the smell won't linger and you won't have to immediately carpet clean or face major issues. 3. Try to find some bit of routine, even if you don't typically have a routine day. That will allow for the pup to get used to times of peak activity and times of rest as puppies badly need rest but often don't want to take it and end up getting naughty simply because they're tired (VERY much like kids in this regard). Enjoy! Great looking pup!
  24. That would have made him one of the older first round high schoolers last year. Crazy how many turned 18 within a month of the draft or not until after the draft!
  25. Gray is a beast! I've been impressed by his raw tools in every viewing I've had of him. Thanks for sharing!!
