  1. Who will be more valuable going forward, berrios or Gibson? That is a tough question. Gibson is pitching fantastic right now but berrios is younger. I think any deal would have to include hundley. Trading Gibson also decreases the twins talent on the starting staff by a significant amount. I would do berrios, chargois, arcia for the two of them. Wonder what their asking price is.
  2. Pretty cool Seth. Thorpe is one of my favorites. I was disappointed with the delay in the decision for surgery, like everyone else. I'm sure recovery for a prospect is extremely difficult. They have no money, unable to work on pitching, still have the same responsibilities. Good luck to him.
  3. Takes talent for that. Walker is an example of a guy with power that is developing. Otherwise, perennial 30 hr guys are rare, especially in this era. You either have to get lucky or draft someone like bryant or Harper that are can't miss. Twins have never been very good at identifying those guy later in the draft.
  4. If like to see some advanced metrics for Stewart. Despite a high amount of hours given up, he has only allowed 1 hr this season. Seems to be a trend for him, not allowing hr. His last 4 outings have been pretty good. He is still walking too many guys. I really hope things click for him to end the year. If he even continues to do what he's already done i bet he still starts in aa next season. If he struggles or misses time due to injury he repeats.
  5. Seth, is max murphy the new Eric lis? Seems to hit well but isn't really on national radar.
  6. It depends a lot on how 2015 goes for Plouffe. If he can play at least as well as 2014 I doubt he is moving off 3b. Sano is going to spend a lot of time in the minors this season. When there is an injury he will likely come up, then go down again when the player comes back. He should be playing LF, RF, 1B along with 3B. It should be pretty obvious he isn't going to stay at 3B. He would already be considered a "bad" fielder, his increasing size is only going to make that worse. You're all kidding yourselves. At 21 he is 260, you really think by 25 he is going to even stay at 260? Especially when he's quoted as saying he eats whatever he wants? Come on! There is also another huge issue in this discussion: Mauer. The big contract, the lack of production, and the need to find a spot for Sano's bat. I'm not hating on Mauer, but he needs to be in jeopardy of losing 1B as much as Plouffe does. Again, 2015 will be important for him to prove he owns it. Whatever happens in the next few years, I highly doubt we'll be seeing Sano at 3b in 2020.
  7. Halsey your hatred is baffling. I say no only because some things need to play out in 2015 before committing to Plouffe at 3b. Sure, you could move him or Sano to the of, but you'd be losing value. They could bring more in a trade. I'm not really worried about Plouffe into his 30's. His game isn't about speed, and that is what goes first. He has an athletic build and should retain bat speed and quickness. Let 2015 play out a little. He could start the season like 2014 and just keep hitting.
  8. Have any coaches during Gardy's tenure go on to have success in other organizations? Nobody jumps at me. That is telling, IMO. If you're a manager for a club that wins a bunch of division tittles and no other organization lures coaches away.... ain't good.
  9. I have stated this before, I don't agree with this at all. The Royals are built for the postseason. They have good starting pitchers, good defense, and a shut-down bullpen. They've been winning games because of it. The crapshoot argument has been around for 10 years to justify the terrible play of the Twins in the postseason. Watch the Royals. They have a plan, they position correctly, they make very few mistakes. That is preparation, none of which the Twins showed under Gardy. They Royals know who they are and are playing to their strengths. This is a good team that underachieved in the regular season IMO.
  10. I'm not in favor of this. Buxton needs time at AA to adjust, and knock off rust. Sano needs time in the minors to knock off rust. Sano missed the whole 2014 season while Buxton mixed most of 2014. They will need time to get back into it, and using up ML service time is not the place for that. Unless you think this team will be a legit contender (which I 100% don't) you let that happen in the minors. If neither are up by the AS break.... I will have very different opinions.
  11. To me, the biggest thing Doug has going for him is the winning attitude. That is as important if not more important than anything else. That is where I feel Gardy failed and failed miserably. You have to have a leader that wants to win so bad it rubs off on everyone else. I'm not sure Molitor has that, but I am sure Doug does. The other parts of the debate lean toward Molitor. If Molitor does get the job, I would either like to see Doug go to AA or be the bench coach. Remember, Doug is still pretty young and a few more seasons as a manager in AA are not going to hurt him. If managers could be prospects, he would be one.
  12. I'm not sure about Rogers above Thorpe and Gonsalves.... actually I am, and think you're crazy Seth lol. Rogers so/9 has decreased as he's gone up the ladder. He looks like his ceiling is a back of the rotation starter, while Thorpe and Gonsalves both have much higher ceilings. Based on that, Rogers wouldn't make my top 15 probably. Not taking anything away from Rogers, he is still a good prospect and would most certainly be in the top 10 in most other teams list. Its all subjective though, and I enjoyed the write-up on each prospect. Well done.
  13. Funny how that decision has remained vivid for so long.
  14. I like several of the candidates. Davis, would be my favorite though. I just like saying Chilli Davis, and it reminds me of winning WS tittles. Seems like a cool fit to me. Who cares about the other stuff.
  15. I'm surprised by this move too. Looks like there is going to be some serious changes happening. I am optimistic and anxious about what the future holds. We're going to be looking at a new era of the Twins with new faces soon. I just hope they target the right person for the job.
  16. I don't see how ownership can't see this happening. If it hasn't been apparent yet, by the opening day next year it will. They are not just losing attendance, they are losing fans. I've never felt more discouraged about this team since I started watching them. Nick, you point toward the talent coming up. How long until that talent is turned into wins? 2... 3... 4? When you lose 90+ games 4 years in a row, its pretty tough to envision being even .500.
  17. A single where a baserunner goes from 1st to 3rd happens a few times a game.... maybe. And, how often is a certain player even in that type of position? The statistic would be worthless based on lack of data alone. On the other hand, you can assume that a catcher might receive something like 150 pitches per game. There is hardly any defensive statistic that will impact a game more than pitch framing. Right now, Suzuki is costing the Twins pitchers 1.5 strikes per game. Now, that might not be much of a difference. But if you're costing that strike on a 2-1 count with runners on 2nd and 3rd.... yeah, thats going to be a big deal. And the fact he is having a negative effect every game compiles the significance.
  18. Determining rookie status: A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or ( accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list). I don't think either will be considered rookies next season. May has 39.2 IP, but has been on the roster for more than 45 days. Vargas already has 212 ABs. I take that back about May. 25 player limit, to me, means outside of September. So unless he hits 50 IP, he will be a rookie next season.
  19. Wow you are low on Jorge. 42? A huge fall IMO. Jorge did have a terrible year in CR, but he still has stuff and projectability. I don't think he is a top 20 guy with what he showed this year, but that is just too low.
  20. Improved play from CF and LF will be the key to the offseason. If the Twins don't sign Lester or Scherzer they need to find a way to improve the outfield. I hope they aren't relying on Hicks to finally break through, or Shaffer to break out. They need upgrades. Buxton is on the way for CF, so essentially they are good there. That leaves LF like so many have talked about.
  21. Hey scrap. I don't know how to quote on my phone... anyway, those braves teams you mentioned were a failure. They had the best team in the mlb a bunch of those years and underwhelmed in the playoffs. That is a failure. championships? You call division titles in a terrible division championships? You can't reference not winning the world series not a failure yet consider them a "championship" caliber team. You also act like a world series title is done mystical random act of science. It's not. Teams just have to be constructed correctly (gm) and play together (manager). Neither of which happened during the twins run of mediocrity. Why will that suddenly change? It boggles my mind why fans in mn have so much loyalty to this fo with how terrible this team has been. Is there really any way new people could do worse? I'm not really sure it could get too much worse.
  22. That team.... would honestly compete with the Twins. Obviously the pitching for the Twins would be better, but that line-up is going to score a ton of runs. Should be fun watching those guys start out the year.
  23. I would have said Ford pickup. Always broken down and the wrist thing on the road. Bazinga.
  24. I hope wimmers gets the nod and Burdi gets to rest. He really could just start in aa next year and make the jump the twins before june. There is no reason for slow promotion with him.
