  1. This is going to be a fun story to follow this season. As much as I hate these kinds of guys/agents, Appel might be worth it. He has very little leverage in this scenario. My #1 question is how MLB ready is he? If he does fall to the Twins and ends up signing.... he could realistically be part of the 2014 Twins. Appel, Gibson, Worely, Hendriks, Diamond... with Maysie and Myersie knocking on the door? That would be a complete turn-around. If that happens.... I really hope the Twins don't chop up the MLB team, because that rotation would be pretty good.... dare I even say playoff caliber...
  2. Steve, a simple google search with Oswaldo Arcia and defense will provide you with numerous results stating he is an above average defender whom might taper to an average defender once he fills out. Considering he is 22, I think he has 5 years or so of being an above average fielder (RF to be specific). When his range starts to drop off hopefully he will be hitting 30+ HR's a year to make up for it.
  3. It is a tough position to fill adequately, and the Twins for some reason are terrible at it. I'm sure it is something they have been trying to figure out... without much luck.
  4. If the Twins tried to start the season with a ****ing 23 million dollar payroll Minnesotans should flip ****. When is the last time that team had success? Why the **** would you model a rebuild after 2 completely terrible franchises? AAAahhhhhh. No.
  5. Why do people keep raving about Florimon at SS? Is it the Twins and Gardy you are all believing? From watching him he looked average in all aspects of his game on the field, and inept at the plate. I don't get the love here. Its fine if everyone would rather see young guys than Carroll, even though Carroll will provide the best results while the Twins wait for someone with some actual talent to play SS. Escobar needs time in AAA. He needs to develop and gain some confidence. He hit .214 last season. It doesn't really matter how good he is with the glove if he is completely incapable at the plate. Hopefully the future will be Rosario at 2b and Santana at SS. For now Dozier might be able to sustain 2b until Rosario is ready.
  6. What more of Florimon do people need to see? I can kinda see wanting to see Escobar, but he was overmatched last season and doesn't really have past results to show he will ever cut it. Span is a terrible example, he at least had documented tools and was turning the corner in aaa. I really hope Santana develops, because there is little hope in FA next season. Just because a guy is young doesn't mean they will ever get better. Plus, those guys aren't even that great defensively (haven't seen much of Escobar to judge). I guess in the long run it doesn't matter and will figure itself out, just don't expect to see much development out of Florimon or Escobar. Unbelievable the Twins didn't bring anyone in to even compete for a spot. Let them play the young guys over Carroll to start, just provides more incompetent baseball.
  7. Outside of Dozier I don't see any of them playing any better than terrible. Carroll should start at SS and Dozier at 2b. Shame on the Twins for not even providing enough depth at the MI to compete with Jamey Carroll or Brian Dozier...
  8. Psuedo you brought up a very good point. I'm not going to fully retract my statement since I'm obviously higher on Arcia than many. I think he should be in the top 20. For the 100th time, his defense is above average, that makes a big difference. Positions matter little to me since most of the CF or SS prospects don't stick there.... obviously why there is a shortage of quality SS and CF in the MLB right now. I believe Arcia could easily be a 5 WAR player, putting him in the top 11 OF in the MLB (based on WAR alone). So yes, I think 41 is too low.
  9. Wrong forum. It should be in the questions about twins daily or whatever its called now. Rocketpig!!!!!!!!
  10. Anyone on the Gardy bandwagon still had better take a minute and digest this.
  11. That isn't part of the debate. AJ's departure is a completely different subject, and failure of the Giants. If the Twins hadn't paid Nathan he wouldn't have logged innings with the Twins either, doesn't mean much.
  12. I just posted about this on another thread. If Liriano had not been injured, this trade would have been a disaster for the Giants. As it stands, they just look like idiots for not paying AJ and getting his best seasons. I used to think it was a horrible deal, but in reality Liriano had 1.5 good seasons and Nathan was an elite closer (granted, against the AL Central).
  13. Minor league only trades almost never happen. Now, Mauer and someone not named Buxton might work....
  14. I think that trade has equalized IMO. Liriano had 1.5 good seasons and Nathan had 6 elite seasons. AJ has gone on to have 9 good seasons since the trade with 500 AB's in each and catching about 120 games. You could argue Nathan and 1.5 seasons of Liriano are better than AJ, but I wouldn't call it the more lopsided in history. Don't give me the "if" Liriano wasn't injured because the Giants traded him because they viewed him as an injury risk.
  15. Not at all. Opinions on guys makes a huge difference. For example, we always heard Eric Lis had too slow of a swing to hit well in the upper levels. I'm not sure if that was 100%, but he isn't to be found now. He had pretty good results, and if the scouts were high on him he'd still be moving through the organization. So yes, stats aren't the end all be all way to grade prospects. However, they just can't be ignored as often as they are. A guy like Arcia that puts up monster number at a high level deserves to be rated higher than someone like Buxton that is only rated on tools. The bust factor is too high of a probability for young prospects. You can argue that Buxton has the "tools" to be a superstar, but it is much much more likely he becomes an average MLB player at this point. While the probability that Arcia becomes a good MLB player is pretty good. Rating guys like Buxton so high just sets them up for failure. Delmon Young is a perfect example of being over-rated. He should have never ever been rated as high as he was. The first time I watched him play I was dumbfounded scouts once salivated over his "tools."
  16. You think Gardy had no say in these moves? Gardy doesn't make all the decisions, but he does have a say in things like this.
  17. Another reason for Butera to be on the 25 man.
  18. When is the quote about penciling him into the rotation going to squeak out?
  19. Nice showing by the Twins. I too believe Arcia should be higher. Next year the Twins should add 3 to the list IMO, while possibly graduating 3. Kepler, Berrios, Rosario, and their first pick of the draft all have a shot at getting in next season. Hicks, Arcia and Gibson might all have lost rookie status for 2014 too.
  20. Revere makes way too much contact for a .200 AVG. I have a hard time seeing his AVG drop below .280 with his speed and contact rate. What he needs to do is take some better AB's and force hitter's counts and walks. He could be a very good player for Philly.
  21. That damn Rocketpig.
  22. Have you ever won anything at a high level? Aiming to win a World Series isn't unattainable. Wow dude.
  23. Beat me to it. Awesome.
  24. He was on the rest and rehab plan that failed. Failure for a proper diagnosis by the Twins medical staff. I think it was about August when he got it, so he will miss most of 2013, maybe come back at the end to get a few innings in, possible AFL guy.
  25. To give you credit, you did say possible, which I agree with. Depending on how much you've dabbled in time and relativity, one's age is tied to their experience. Without proposing travel at/near the speed of light, we could propose Gibson travels very fast for a significant portion of his last causing his space/time to slow down far enough that Hendriks becomes older than him in our perception of space/time. Another possibility is that Gibson undergoes cryonic preservation at some point (maybe between seasons) and his body stops aging long enough that Hendriks passes him. The question still would remain though, does age represent the duration that one's body is alive in reference to what we call time or does it relate strictly to when a person was born in our perception of space/time? Interesting thing time is...
