  1. I love Gibson's demeanor. Give the man the ball after the out.
  2. I think this is true but it begs the question as to why Trump is so servile to Putin, if Putin doesn't have information that Trump is afraid will come out. Whatever Putin has on him is some how worse than shooting some one on 5th Ave. (For instance I wonder if Trump (or his modelling company) got involved in sex trafficking of minors or some such.)
  3. Flake did give a Senate floor speech defending the press. Various others have tweeted about it. But if your general point is that the GOP is complicit with Trump until its entirely void of political viability--that much is clearly true.
  4. Right. It's not only a wrong tactic, it's probably ineffective. Something, you keep saying over the years, and I see too, is that the left and center have to resist any notion of righteousness, or we self-fulfill the GOP prophecy about us.
  5. I'm with you about being passionate and standing up for what you believe and speaking truth to power, but harassment is just that harassment. I certainly don't want any part in it; it further alienates people who might be persuadable but will react to how poorly we treat those whom we disagree with. Many of Trump's supporters are simply ignorant, and not so willfully fascist (or whatever-ist); we should pity them, not shame/harass them.
  6. I think there's a lot of conflation of who liberals are in that piece. I don't think progressive/socialist liberals have blind spots about working class rights, I think such liberals feel they can advocate for them. The piece does seem to concede this as the author admits his father has more in common with Ocasio-Cortez than the GOP; but I think there is a whole wing of Democrats who recognize that and are trying to push their message to the forefront of the party (not sure why there's so much resistance to it beyond need to hold onto power). It's more Clinton's 'basket of deplorables' that shows the blind spot in this regard, than necessarily liberals.
  7. Indians get Hand for Mejia. Seems like a tall price to pay.
  8. I've thought about that--just conceding abortion. But really, this is only a tactic conceived among men... But what you are pointing to is the redmeat issues that the uber-rich continue to draw upon for generations to get people to vote against their interest. Very sad how complicit religion, or evangelism, is with the uber-rich.
  9. The “do what you want” theory of politics: Why embracing “Abolish ICE” and Medicare-for-all won’t doom the Democrats. Interesting article that speaks to some the ideas we've been bandying about the last couple weeks.
  10. It seems like you're intentionally missing his point. He picked the quotes and is relaying the substance of those quotes. He could have quoted all kinds of other pop culture that it isn't offensive.
  11. The whole reason I want the Democrats to run a progressive is because of messaging (notwithstanding that I largely believe in the policy).
  12. What a goober.
  13. I agree with this largely. But I think you also have to think about turnout. I don't think another moderate democrat is going to get the job done. The candidate does matter. For my part, I will vote for whomever they put forward. But more of the Schumer, Pelosi crowd, I don't think motivates much any one; as tolerable as they might be.
  14. No comprises do not need to be made (in terms of whom we elect to office, after that point sure). Comprises were made in 2016, and that gave us Trump. The practical candidate is a loser for the Democrats. I think there needs to be a cohesive, authentic message; that doesn't look overly crafted, and overly solicitous.
  15. There are many conservatives who are breaking with Trump today, but I have no idea if this is just a minority of people being pushed forward by those whom I agree with it, or if it represents a real change. For instance:
  16. I'll never understand fans desires to push prospects through the organization. And I imagine Lewis is very young for his league; that he needs to be on pace to reach the majors as a 20 year old is an absurd standard. Look at what's happening with Buxton, who in retrospect was probably rushed. There's more to the game than what ends up in the boxscore.
  17. Or perhaps, they will look closer to see those of us who retain our dignity. Indeed, it is only in the face of the now common deplorable behavior, that our common decency rings with something hard won. In any case, I don't expect an invite to the Federation of Planets any time soon. (Thanks Trump!)
  18. Polanco should have been exempted from the poll; as he didn't really play in the first half. Any production--even average production--will make such soothsayers seem correct.
  19. Agreed, but we may appeal to their children and family members through not totally dismissing them, and their perceived plight. Especially on social media, it's rarely for the person being engaged, but for the audience at large.
  20. Don't forget guys that moxy adds several miles per hour to every pitch.
  21. It will be interesting to see how Kavanaugh responds to questions about his law review article and the idea of recusing himself. I don't think he'd be amenable to recusing himself, and I imagine he'll have to dance around that fact at the confirmation hearings.
