  1. Where did you hear it put that way? What are your sources? That is a gross mischaracterization.
  2. Just like the Democrats would do, eh?
  3. The offseason move many were clamoring for finally happens!! Worth a gamble.
  4. 538: Bulletpoint: Is Electability A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy? Interesting article on electability v. ideal candidate. Warren narrow leads in terms of the ideal candidate...
  5. Your boy Trump got accused of another sexual assault today. Gonna sweep that one under the rug too?
  6. Good debut: 5.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 Ks
  7. A political party isn't like a race or a gender identity or even a religion (which people are mostly born into). The members of a political party opt into that party, and a political party has governing body that has (or should have) some control over the people whom it chooses to include/endorse as a member. So in some instances it may be unfair to lump all Republicans together, but I think by and large it is fair to lump them all together. More accountability from all members of the group for the supposed bad actors would do a lot to making sure those bad actors don't continue to surface time and time again. Likewise, Democrats should hold each other accountable as well. But the GOP is god awful at empowering the most vile members of its party (cough: the president).
  8. A good day. Glad Lewis is catching fire, and relieved to see Kiriloff back. Rooker is raking as well!
  9. I did not. I trusted Media Matters to put that in context. Lesson learned. Edit: what she said was in response to the notion reparations should go to Native Americans. So yes, she didn't say this about slavery, just about the genocide of tribal people on the North American continent. I'm actually not sure that's better, and the same kind of thinking, all though she did not do it, could apply to the conquest of African people for the purposes of slavery rather than land.
  10. Okay, so will you kindly stop telling people what the topic is or is not?
  11. The timing is fishy what with Trump's supposed desire for war...
  12. Amen!
  13. Lot's of reasons why I'll be supporting Warren can be found in this video Q&A from the NYT.
  14. Although, I'm glad it was not, say, my parent's pool, I do believe there is not just one public pool, but perhaps I'm mistaken.
  15. That was a good play all around. Good on Astudillo not to get caught up in the run down.
  16. Is it possible this is a cover up, so as not to disgrace a national hero? Well, that's what's going around twitter.
  17. Cave hit major league pitching well last year to the tune of (near) .800 OPS while playing in CF. No need to dish on a guy who has had few opportunities to get established this year.
  18. Look, no one is being antisemitic. Israel is a country, and their policies can be criticized--especially settlements in land taken by force over 50 years ago which the UN still does not acknowledge Israel's rightful possession of such lands--without accusations of antisemiticism. Your accusation is similar to someone calling a critic of the Obama administrations policies a racist (which no one has ever done around here). As for Iran, no one's really brought it up. They are obviously an extreme regime, so the need to criticize them isn't as obvious. People also aren't complaining about North Korea on the regular for the same reasons. Because Israel is OUR ALLY our criticism of their policies should have more of an impact.
  19. I also addressed Brock's post, and we largely agree on his post, so I didn't see anything else to add on those points. And why did I focus on that? Well, because you consistently whine about people being called racist, but refuse to acknowledge racism in its subtle forms, this was a perfect opportunity to get you to see what was problematic about McConnell's message, and why I feel calling him out was appropriate. If you don't like discussing this issue, feel free to opt out.
  20. The suggestion that a black president should be enough to wash the sins of slavery is pretty messed up, and whether we want to call it racist or not, we should be able to point out that it is messed up and irresponsible because of its implications about race. In my mind, tokenism (and that's how I'd characterize McConnell's position) is a form of racism, though more subtle than its other forms.
  21. This is somewhat redundant to Brock's post, but reparations that I could live with are tuition free state universities, community colleges and trade schools. Work training programs for adults. Invest in the development of black neighborhoods without gentrification--perhaps a freeze on rent in such areas, or a grandfathered increase. Funded child care. Access to health and mental health services. Etc. I'm likewise against cash reparations. The whole you can teach a man to fish v. giving him a fish thing.
  22. They can bring me into their essential oil business? Oh boy.
