  1. Well, I wasn't blindsided. I recommend it, you don't. /shrug
  2. One's taste for such a show might be a matter of one's capacity and willingness to suspend disbelief. For our part, we found that last episode oddly moving, and my need for logical consistency waned as I became emotionally invested in the characters. (That said, there's less masterful production in The OA than in Strangers Things, but that's a mighty high standard).
  3. Sci-Fi fans (even fans of Stranger Things) should out Netflix's The OA. Was surprised by how much we liked it; binged the whole season in two days.
  4. Who is they? I think you're conflating two regimes, which I see a lot of in this thread, to somehow bolster that incompetence angle in not trading Dozier.
  5. Perkins has no value. Esan may have value, but not much. Dozier's market is depleted. Are you suggesting they trade these pieces at any cost? And are you also suggesting such trades wouldn't affect their future dealings?
  6. Has any one denied our top priority is starting pitching? That said, the most foolish thing to do would be deal your most valuable asset in a depleted market just fill a need. Bad teams can't waste valuable assets.
  7. You realize that the man who presided over that track record is the one who dealt JDL, right? So I'm not sure why we should grant any more credence to what the TB GM thinks of the trade he just made.
  8. You really think the Twins went to the press before going directly to the Dodgers? I don't. I also seriously doubt that a new regime would try to game other clubs through the media; I think that's more projection than interpretation of the facts we actually know.
  9. The Twins have reason to leak trade inquiries (in spite of their seriousness). And the Cards have reasons to publicly deny their pursuit (in spite of their seriousness).
  10. I don't disagree, necessarily.. My point is that if part of the problem with our pitchers in the upper minors is that they have been underdeveloped because of resources and/or philosophy, does Falvey really know what he has in Stewart, Jay, Jorge, etc.? I'd prefer to see how the young guys respond to the regime changing, than to judging them by their results under the old regime.
  11. Let's not give up pitching prospects (whom could benefit from change in pitching philosophy) for a Redsox starter. We have other assets to deal; let's not further thin-out our minor league starting pitching depth in the name of mid rotation veterans...
  12. Ken Rosenthal: Sources: Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals. Robles, Giolito would go to #WhiteSox. Teams haggling over final pieces in deal.
  13. I don't need an itemized list to give Falvey and Levine a chance with our young pitching. There's some young arms, including Stewart, who stand a chance of developing under the new regime.
  14. I think that's wishful thinking. It makes far more sense for the Dodgers to hold onto Urias and forego Kohl Stewart or whoever would sweeten the pot. Maybe the Twins can get Urias, but it will because of Dozier's value not because they sweetened the pot.
  15. Beyond robbing of the soul of the game, it would universalize a strike zone, depriving an element of strategy in there being no need for game-to-game (umpire-to-umpire) adjustment. The drama of whether its a ball or a strike, both to the fan and the hitter, would become moot, as it wouldn't take long for the hitters (and the fans) to learn with certitude the dimensions of that automated strike zone. (The result would probably be more walks at first, followed by a lot more offense as the pitchers are further forced to pitch in a concrete zone). I think this would also have collateral effects on the diverse means to successfully getting a strike call, further standardizing a pitcher's skillset/repetiore/technique and a catcher's ability to effect the game. Thus making the game boring and the players copies of each other.
  16. Others probably can speak better to the issue than I can, but I believe the acceptance of pitcher framing has come a long way in that time. Whether Castro's talents in "pitcher framing" prove more real than Suzuki's defense, I don't know--but I do believe there's more of statistical case for Castro.
  17. It's an asset that fits within the budget. In a year (or two), he might be tradeable in the same we are talking about Ervin Santana this offseason. We know there were at least two other suitors who had offered three year contracts. A mistake that too many rebuilding teams make is not acquiring major league assets to artificially keep the payroll low.
  18. I'm not sure it's fair or correct to compare Castro to Hughes and Nolasco. Change in front-office leadership, and the initial Hughes contract was a good one.
