  1. Not about this game. But the Astro's are getting shifty:
  2. The Orioles welcome walkway looks like a slip'n'side
  3. Is this real? Perhaps it's the Dozier effect...
  4. TD's Parker with some rationale about why LaMarre may have had better results this spring, and hopefully in the future. https://twitter.com/ParkerHageman/status/978792578215706626 I'm glad to see production, and not just pedigree, is rewarded with a roster spot. His exposure will be limited, and he may only last a short while, but he did earn his spot.
  5. But often there is no other evidence, and in many cases the victim's testimony carries the day. But without corroborating evidence, the case can be hard to prove, which is why many sexual-assaults go unprosecuted.
  6. The jury would still have to believe them (obviously, they aren't required to accept the testimony as true) but no additional evidence is necessary for a conviction. Many, many child-sexual-assault convictions are based on nothing more than testimony from the victim.
  7. Again her testimony would be sufficient evidence in any court of law. I stand by that they could not find any corroborating evidence. I imagine in the other case, MLB was able to talk to witnesses. While there are great many protections for defendants, again the evidentiary and sufficiency standards are often much lower than you would anticipate. Private organizations make their own rules regarding what kind of evidence is sufficient; while they may not need prove beyond a reasonable doubt (probably just by preponderance, more likely than not), they per rule require direct or corroborating evidence (I'm speculating, but I think, generally, it's a sound policy, except it doesn't work well for sexual assault). Reasonable suspicion is the standard for the police to be able pull your car over or search you for their own safety. It doesn't apply to standards of proof or sufficiency of evidence.
  8. That creates a false equivalency. False accusations and sexual assault do not occur at the same rates. Accusation can eventually become testimony, which is enough to sustain a conviction.
  9. I'd just like to add: that in a court of law (this may vary from state to state), there need not be any corroborating evidence, nor any direct evidence. Testimony is enough, of course, it must be enough to overcome the jury's reasonable doubts. But often testimony is the only evidence. The MLB may require a higher sufficiency standard than a court of a law because they aren't using a jury/due-process to make decisions. So even if MLB believed her version, without corroboration or direct evidence, I imagine their hands were tied.
  10. So is it to you that we bring complaints about the spacing after sentences? I jest; congrats, and good luck!
  11. It's Eddie G. who's doing the mentioning, and basing the comparison on attitude not ability (or likelihood of success), Eddie even tries to qualify it. That doesn't seem preposterous, it seems genuine, from someone who has worked with them both.
  12. That interesting, in that we're not the only team to see Cave as roster spot worthy, even before his swing adjustment, on which so much depends. (As you seem to point up thread, it's the three options that add necessary patience to determine whatever value Cave has.)
  13. Cave lands on MLB Pipelines Top 30 list at number 26, one spot ahead of Granite.
  14. Between Lynn and Morrison this team will be a hoot.
  15. Why is Hughes part of your off-season evaluation? His salary is sunk cost.
  16. Yesterday, Heyman suggested the Lynn 2/20 offer was "outdated" (did it precede the trade for Ordizzi or the singing of Morrison?), so it may not represent the current state of the negotiations, nor the Twins willingness to add another starter.
  17. I think accusing Mauer of lying is just a bridge too far. It's odious of conspiracy theory, not deduction.
  18. His splits are pretty favorable; he did much better in the second half (dynamite in Sept.), and on the road. Is Ordozzi a flyball or groundball guy? Maybe Buxton can help if the former. (Edit: his flyball rate rose precipitously last season, and the groundball rate dropped even more so. I don't know league averages, so I lack context to answer my own question)
  19. There were reports that he had a guaranteed roster spot, and our board spent a lot hangwringing over the loss of that spot...but I guess not.
  20. I look forward to Parker et al explaining what lead to the increase in walk and HR rates the past two seasons. I hope it's something the Twins have a plan for fixing.
  21. I guess Sanchez isn't taking a roster spot, as of now? Has anyone been cleared for him?
