  1. Outman is 4 for 7 with 2 homers against the Twins, and only hitting .179 for the year.
  2. But all ST I was reading he does!
  3. Hey, the Padres were down 8-0 yesterday going into the bottom of the 6th, and won 9-8.
  4. But that is called one of Varland's only two mistakes by the radio announcers. Oh, I guess it helps IF YOU ACTRUALLY SWING AT THE MIDDLE MIDDLE PITCH.
  5. Middle, middle. Announcers love to say a pitcher only threw 2 mistakes, otherwise, pitched a great game. Right. Of course there are the walks and the other hits that put runners on. Varland has not pitched a good game. ERA sitting a run per inning now. 9.00. Free Varland!!!
  6. 12 0uts. 8 Ks. That will bring the fans out. Being in the field is really helping Buxton focus at the plate.
  7. How come our guys don't hit middle middle pitches out?
  8. Almost. Jackson had already immediately given up a first batter dinger on a hanging slider meatball that didn't slide at 85 mph right down the middle on a 3-2 count to Outman, a lefty, so by the time LH batting Ohtani had come up to hit his homer, lefty Trammell had struck out, and RH batting Betts lined out, and the Twins were already behind one, now. So Jackson was brought in to face L,L,R for sure, and finished with L,L, so 4 out of 5 LH batters, entering with the game tied. Seems a little odd, eh?
  9. No, I don't think those people would. They would admit they liked the other decision, to go with Ober cruising and 68 pitches for the 6th, just like you are admitting you liked the decision that was made to replace him, even though it proved to be a choice that made people wonder what could have been, and the lead was given up. Pitchers also have to perform to the game, and not complain about the runs scored (not that they are, but fans are). We were ahead by one with 12 outs to go. The score could have been 10-9, and still the pitchers would have been given the job to hold a one run lead with 12 outs to go. I heard that this bullpen is supposed to be the very best in the game this year.......
  10. ...,. and don't look and see what Berrios is doing so far, while we still wait and wait for some guy named Martin to get a MLB hit, and a three named pitcher to actually make the team. But the Mahle trade was even worse.
  11. But...... like last year, you will hear from the player's themselves, how they are actually way better and there is soooooo much talent in the locker room! 😇 Even the Astros have a worse record (4-7) so far. It is pretty early to throw in the towel, don't you think? That Buxton catch was something else. And he didn't break. Awesome. The Padres were down 8-0 going into the bottom of the 6th. Only 12 more outs and they could go home. But they didn't give up and won, 9-8! I hope our guys saw those highlights.
  12. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/04/angels-hire-torii-hunter-as-special-assistant-to-the-gm.html Hunter to join the Angels FO.
  13. Many managers/coaches in all sports, and players, too, also feel that by expressing your concern in a notorious manner will get you the next questionable call in your favor "to even it out", and many times, it seems to work - just the opposite of the behavior in question making calls go against you. Go figure. The common factor? Emotion is involved to make a correct and accurate call, and that is the main problem and must be removed.
  14. Exactly. It can't, but it does so very often. Human pride and power. That should never happen from an umpire, but as long as they are allowed to guess at the balls and strikes, it will, and far to much - chest out, stepping in, doubling down even if wrong to show "I am the power". A correct call should never never never involve emotion and revenge, conscious or subconscious.
  15. I guess I give fans more credit than Nick. If the box is placed wrong by the broadcast, we can actually take that into account, and still see where the ball crosses the plane of view, and tell if the call was right or wrong. It is not 3 D, but we are not stupid. (That doesn't mean is shouldn't be improved and be adjusted correctly for each batter's height - top and bottom, which is the only thing in question, not the inside and outside edges, which is always the same.) Avid baseball fans know the strike zone. Casual fans, maybe not so much. The system used to grade the umps should be the system used to call the balls and strikes. It will be far better than what is used now, and it will just get better. Umpires are not the human element. The players are. Or should be. They deserve the correct close calls the most. The perfect low and outside corner for a strike. The ball that is close but the batter is talented enough to hold up. That is excellence in baseball, and that deserves to be awarded, and not destroyed and robbed by the guy that is just guessing, and doing the best he can, which is worse than a better option.
  16. They practiced losing in ST. They didn't mean to, but it became the habit. It doesn't matter was the mantra. These games don't count. So many vets didn't get at bats, or take at bats. They have their "process". Well........... it didn't get many of them ready. The games are telling. 7 walks, 3 hit batters, an error -=- 11 extra base runners, and they scored all of one run. And they just keep striking out. With no home runs. All the announcers say anymore was the speed the ball is hit. That is pretty pathetic.
  17. This is nothing so far. It could get worse with the Dodgers coming to town. It could get a lot better real quick, just like Bryce Harper's season opening oh-fers turned into a 3 homer game. But this is what happens when a team's management and vets have the attitude that ST doesn't matter. These guys aren't ready. They lollygag around with "their process", don't play in games, don't get the at bats, and develop a habit of losing. And yes, it doesn't count. But the habits do. Never a good thing to get in the habit of losing or thinking it doesn't matter. It counts now, and they aren't ready.
  18. Spencer Steer was ready to play baseball to start the season (left field), eh, Wallner?
  19. Except DPCC is actually starting a season hitting and no GIDP yet! Lopez, verified ace, I hear........
  20. Why protect the plate with 2 strikes when you can beg for a walk? 15th K of the game. Same as it ever was........
  21. Oh how I miss the days when batters believed in "protecting the plate" with 2 strikes instead of begging for walks.
  22. Ober is 28, 29 in July. He is hardly "young" for a baseball player. In fact, he is closer to "old" than "young". Ryan is so young he will be 28 in June.
