  1. "The Twins had one of the worst starting rotations in all baseball last year. In order to remedy the problem, the team has done its best to be aggressive in the open market, recently adding Mike Pelfrey via a two-year $11 million deal." While I understand that Pelfrey was a free agent signing, I really can't see how he can be considered as part of the attempt to remedy the problem, as he was part of the problem of last year's rotation. If anything, he continues to contribute to the problem. I also heartily agree with Thrylos, and that the bullpen was middle of the pack. The stats back it up, for sure. Mediocre does not become one of the best in MLB, just because it is one of the best parts of a horrible 2013 team.
  2. I just can't ignore how he finished the season. To improve from April's performance.... well, it would be more amazing if he could have gotten worse than that month, but he made a run for it in September. They all count, as we all painfully witnessed.
  3. Terrry Ryan is open for business, but he shops at one expensive Kmart. Twins' starters will be all right. Not all right, but all right... and since I lean toward the left, it is not good news to me. By the 3rd of 4th game of each series, the opposing teams should have a pretty good rhythm at the plate, especially after they teed off in the first two games. But anything can happen, and I am pretty sure it will.
  4. Great entry! It made me laugh through the pain. Living in the LA area now…. at least I get to see some real pitching at Dodger Stadium. The only thing I can add is…… Twins' starters will be all right. Not all right, but all right….. and since I lean toward the left, it is not good news to me.
  5. The 2014 free agent pitching crop looks pretty darn good. Even with the pitchers signed, and adding a third even if it is Garza, I can't see them contending for a playoff spot. It might be time cut bait and wait. As much as the Twins couldn't adapt to Garza's personality the last time around, I can't see being around Gardenhire and Anderson a success story. I would think former ALCS MVP Garza is thinking the same thing.
  6. I fear Ryan is playing Pelfrey offer against Garza offer, and whoever signs first is the last pitcher. I sure hope it isn't Pelfrey.
  7. Radke next? I guess if you throw enough at the wall, something might stick.
  8. If you can't do it at any other base, you shouldn't be able to do it at home. I was disappointed that the "neighborhood" force out at second will not be reviewable. I have always hated it. Part of baseball is the inches and split seconds. If you can't get the foot on the base in time, that is part of the play. Baseball was never supposed to be football.
  9. It looks like one huge back end to me.
  10. Kazmir all day. I don't blame him for liking the A's though. And a 4 year for Nolasco is going to be too long. They have Billy Beane, and the Twins have Terry Ryan. That's a no brainer. It would be cool to hear Led Zeppelin's Kashmir on the way to the mound........ if he doesn't use it, he should.
  11. I like Navarro as a first choice. He can handle the translation problem. Communication can't hurt.
  12. I second that. I have always liked AJ. He was always a good Twin and he is a funny guy. Some just don't have an evolved sense of humor. He doesn't help with the language barrier like Navarro would, but he would be a welcome addition, and with Joe's added presence, would be able to help Pinto ......with gestures.
  13. That would be fantastic! But he (and others) did better away from Anderson and Gardenhire, not with them in their ear.
  14. A dreaded "innings eater" (that has trouble getting innings in before he is pulled) that pitched horribly the second half of last season, and gives up tons of home runs. Worse than league average. Don't we already have about 5 or 6 of those already?
  15. Sigh..... Phil Hughes. I was so hoping that Nolasco, Huhges, Arroyo, and Ervin Santana would be signed by other teams so Ryan would have to go after Kazmir or Jimenez or Garza or even Tanaka. Innings eaters...... 4 to 5 ERA pitchers that always give you a better chance to lose than win. I just can't see the Gardenhire/Anderson team making any pitcher better, even if it is Target Field. Yes, Ryan is spending money, money he should have been spending the last 2 years as well, but he is still in the mode of pitchers that don't miss bats and give up home runs. Every player can have a special year and teams can come from last to first. It doesn't make me happy, but it is what I expected. I just don't work very hard anymore to talk myself into justifying league average pitchers into being something they aren't.
  16. It would be great if there was an option to turn off the streaming add that eats up computer resources that runs in the right hand column of some pages. I understand you must be getting some money for advertising......... but I see no options to turn it off and it always comes on automatically. If there is a way and I just don't see it, any tip would be appreciated. Thanks.
  17. I just love it when the pitcher's calling card is.... "He has posted peripheral numbers..... that suggest he should be better than...." (he is). He should be, but isn't. Good enough for the Twins' high standards, especially with Terry Ryan still making the choices and offers. I guess something is better than nothing, and the same old continues.
  18. Certifiably AARP. I fondly refer to Cuddyer as "Wartman", and don't get the ....Revere can't hit (don't singles count?). AARP rating of 6.2 because I decided I was a judge, and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  19. Nick Punto can't seem to help himself when it comes to getting picked off or over running a base in the playoffs.
  20. Tanaka is exactly what the Twins need. He would mature with Buxton and Sano and Arcia and Levi Michael........ ops..... forget Michael...... Rosario.... et al. Puig was cheap to, considering. But then, he has way too much personality for the Twins and many fans. Tanaka could be the young ace that solidifies the diversity of the new up and coming teams, and provides the pitching that could lead the hopefuls.
  21. Torii Hunter was the heart and soul, and the clubhouse leader. He was the franchise player, and never skipped a beat, and was embraced and a leader with the Angels and Tigers as well. Two i's in his name, eh? He is funny, gregarious, and just keeps on playing well, giving his all, and inspiring his teammates. The Twins have been in desperate need of a personality like Torii's since they decided to make Joe the face of the franchise. In the end, it is the spirit that makes winners, even when the talent is there. Talent without that spirit still doesn't win.
  22. I sure hope you are right, because right now he hits like the pitcher he could have been. In the outfield, it was sure a joy to see him do what Span was always afraid to do, and dive for the ball.
  23. Always fun to read your articles/blog entries. This one is no exception. I guess that might not sound right. But you will know what I mean. I really liked "Brad, you are my idle." I don't know if that was a spelling error, typo, if it was intentional, or something that is special because it was unintentional but brilliant (like that special thing that shows up in a picture that you had no idea was there when you took it), but I really like what it literally means as written. Someone who lets one be themselves, when not getting them anywhere, idling in place, unproductive, empty, hollow, helping one avoid work. No idolatry involved. The Twins have been my idle for 3 years in a row now.
  24. It is so kind of folks to write about the Twins and use "90+ loss season", when they could just as easily use 5 as the factor and say "95+ loss season". 90 is so much kinder than reality. I like Kazmir and Lincecum and Tanaka. I can't see how Garza would play for the Twins by choice with the same management in place as before, nor that the Twins would sign him because the same management is in place as before.
