  1. Another right hander that pitches to a mediocre 4 something ERA. And 4 years. I didn't like the Nolasco signing and I don't really like this one that much. 4 years. I love that Ryan is finally really spending some money that has been hoarded for the last 3 years, though. Maybe this one turns out better than Nolasco. I sure hope so. Personally, I was ready to see Meyer and May.
  2. No......... but his daddy said many times that Joe would be the next person to hit .400! Personally, I could never understand why a guy that big with the anointed "perfect swing" didn't hit 40 dingers a year.
  3. Why? Sounds like a great first baseman to me.
  4. I embrace the analysis and the sabermatic approach to assembling a ball club. I didn't imply anything. I know that I am not self important because I can understand and toss around stats. And I am not implying anything by saying that either. I am one that likes to talk and write about it, but can't play the game now. I enjoy the analysis, and don't win or lose any ballgames, but I will pretty much always have an opinion about it.
  5. People who can play the game, play. People that can't, but perhaps once did or just love it and watch it, write about it. Nobody who ever writes about it - including those who collect and analyze stats, wins a ballgame. It sure is fun though.
  6. My bet........ Colabello gets a shot - a real shot - and hits 25-30 homers for the Jays.
  7. This is GREAT news........ Take the job, Terry Ryan! Immediately if not sooner! And hire someone from outside the org!
  8. It is hard to know.......... since the English language has been broken ........ literally. http://io9.com/society-crumbles-as-google-admits-literally-now-means-1134793489
  9. I loved it. I loved the question - a bit rambling and too many at once - passive aggressive baiting fishing for a soundbite - i loved it ......... and I loved the answer even more. The whole answer. The whole exchange. I agree with Hunter. I thought Bernadino was a bit of a "prick", too. I can't believe I can say that on TwinsDaily. The whole thing made me laugh. Torii didn't fly off the handle. I thought he had an OK sense of humor in his voice. I don't mind if Torii is uncomfortable around certain people because of his religious beliefs. I don't have to believe what he believes. I can understand uncomfortable. I get uncomfortable around a certain groups of people, too - for example, people who wear exposed guns on city streets. Concealed and permitted, and around cops with guns ,too. It all makes me uncomfortable. It doesn't mean that I can't interact and treat them with respect (especially since they got a gun), but it sure makes me uncomfortable. My wife can make me real uncomfortable, and I will always love her with all my heart. Someone said earlier that prick = jerk. I agree. No big deal. This was totally mild.... and pretty funny. I love it.
  10. I am amazed that people feel the bullpen is an asset now. The quicker Burdi and Reed are in the mix, the better. Pelfrey should be moved to the pen, and traded as soon as possible if he does well (because I totally think it will be a smoke screen.) May and Meyer to the Rotation out of the gate. Meyer was babied enough last year. Time to get on with it. The rest of the potential starters are filler only in case of injury. Berrios could be there sooner than many think. Huge concerns about Perkins and Fien and Nolasco. I hope Perkins knows that he became a chub, and gets in shape and stays in shape. I think that was his biggest problem last year, manifesting in the horrible fade at the end of the year. I hate to see the young pitchers blocked for Pelfrey types, or the proverbial serviceable innings eater....... (especially when they only last 5 innings). I do like TJ comebacks, Anderson and Medlin, as free agent risks. I would love to see Bourjos added. I feel a big year coming on for him if he gets to play regularly, both at the plate and in the field...... and we will need his defense, badly.
  11. I didn't mean to imply a Koufax to Correia comparison. I am sorry if that is how you took it. I did mention Meyer, Berrios, and Stewart. I believe Gibson is still formulating, too. I do believe magic can happen, and pitchers can get better, especially when they are just coming on. I didn't mention Nolasco or Pelfrey either. I think things are changing. I agree that Ryan has made some horrible choices with misguided hopes and strategy. If the bats miss the ball more, a lot of good things can happen. Perhaps even.... some magic.
  12. Wasn't Willingham signed to play right field, announced that he would play right field, and ended up back in left? A lot can happen before the season starts (including players that are dealt or dealt for or don't make the team) and even more can happen with injuries and replacements during the season. I am getting more and more comfortable with Hunter returning, and realistically, I need to because I am a Twins' fan.
  13. Didn't Randy Johnson magically become Randy Johnson? Phil Hughes magically became Phil Hughes last year (at least, for last year.........). Alex Meyer could magically become Alex Meyer, too, even if he does take a couple years to get there. So could Berrios, and Stewart. Some of our pitchers really could do it, especially if management would just let them pitch in the show before they are over 25 or 26. Even Sandy Koufax magically became Sandy Koufax, but it took him a few years.
  14. Well, the "Twins' Way" certainly hasn't swiffered the nation, or the game. It certainly isn't a phenomenon like the "West Coast Offense". This move could be great, or it could be a great disappointment. As much as I loved Torii in his days on the Twins, I hope I am surprised and this turns out good. It is what Molitor wanted, if you can believe the media reports. Is Johan Santana next?
  15. I don't get it. I just don't get it. It could be great. It could be horrible. I loved Torii on the Twins, and I hated that he left. I hated that Gomez was traded too. I don't see it helping much, and it could be blocking. We missed all those good years he had. How soon can he be traded?
  16. I sure hope the Twins pass on Torii now. I always liked Hunter, but had to ignore several of his personal opinions about things not baseball. The offense was fine last year. Pitching and defense is were all focus should go. Hunter is neither.
  17. Yes, yes, yes. Jim Kaat belongs in the HOF. I hope the veteran's committee finally makes that happen. All Twins' pitchers should be required to watch tapes of Jim's delivery and how to be ready to field the ball. Pitcher's are just lazy now. They are an important part of defense after the ball is pitched.
  18. As with the other recent articles about Plouffe..... I say keep him, for all the reasons i won't repeat. Somebody will always need a third baseman. Right now, the Twins do.
  19. To assume Plouffe's value is at its highest is premature. He has improved every year. He is at an age to keep improving. No real reason to assume that he won't. Some team will always need a third baseman. Now is the time to be glad he is on the Twins. I for one am tired of waiting for prospects. The only good thing about a prospect is that they become a valued player for the MLB team. If a team always trades a player once that happens, they never contend. If and when Sano can displace him..... he very well could be worth even more. Escobar? He needs to prove he is the one to keep, as well.
  20. Not true. It is always disparaging when used to refer to the Twins. Just because one is a fan doesn't make it endearing, in my opinion. I hate it and never use it. I won't even go to a blog site of fans that use it in their title because of it. The Baseball Project's song from 2010, "Please Don't Call Them Twinkies" says it well. I know the last 4 years have been tough..... but they are still the Twins.
  21. I would want to see what Dozier does this year first. No hurry. Either way, it works for trade value, and that seems what is the most important these days..... hoping a prospect can become a MLB player, but trading him for a prospect when they do, and waiting and hoping again they make it to the show so you can trade them.
  22. Wow. I find it hard to believe that Molitor is getting any choice at all on who his coaches are. I could be very wrong, of course, and I don't think even if what I suspect is true, that Molitor would ever confirm it unless things all go to hell and he tells us on the way out. Just don't let Varva coach third.... please.
  23. Love, love, love Tony O! But I cannot consider him a HOF'er. Just too short of a career. He was even my favorite Twin for my 9-16 years of age. It doesn't mean he wasn't as talented as some that are in, and more talented than some, too. Tony just didn't do it for long enough. Joe Mauer will face the same situation unless he starts to perform like a Hall of Famer again now that he is not behind the plate. Even if your career is long, you don't deserve the Hall if you don't sustain the excellence. I think Jim Kaat has a better case than Tony.
  24. Exactly. Seems that should be common knowledge to a baseball fan, but apparently not. It certainly should be to a person that is a reporter.
  25. Awesome post. With so many reports not being true these days..... there might be a future "onion" type site to be tendered for baseball..... "The Leek" maybe.
