    To be clear I wasn't a Bill Smith fan. However, one thing he did was try to win and spent the money and made the trades to do that. Most of his bad trades had Gardy's fingerprints all over them, imo. Blaming Smith also fails to put any blame on the scouts and player evaluation guys that ok'd them and Terry still had an office down the hall and was involved. Smith was and is a money guy so all his trades he had to rely on the same guys that are still in Twins system scouting, etc. Except for the last year, which most people blame on injuries, the Smith years look pretty good right now. Having said that I don't want him back!!

    Looks like a lot of relief pitchers and Dh's. This actually kind of depressed me a little.

    The reality is what we have been spending isn't producing wins. Now spending more if done poorly may not either. But if Ryan is good as many here claim spending more should produce a better team and more wins. The problem I have with St Peter is setting a number this early because there is no reason to do that at this point.

    Trading Arcia for a starter would be my idea. You could move Plouffe to RF and have Escobar play 3rd until Sano comes up if he does. I actually think Plouffe would be better in the outfield than what Arcia is and maybe end a plus player that way. Arcia gives away as many runs as he produces, imo. Arcia really needs to be a DH and part time outfielder and we have plenty of DH types right now.

    One of the TV stations talked to Molitor as he came out of Target Field yesterday and he said he had interviewed. Ryan was going to Florida today to watch prospects. At this point it would be a surprise if Molitor wasn't the guy, imo. Nice write up on Trade Rumors on the Twins off season if someone would like to put up a link. I don't know how to do that!

    I really feel that what St Peter said was stupid. He should be saying something like we'll do what we need to in order to field a better team (even if he didn't mean spend more money). There was no reason, at this time, for him to already semi-limit the payroll number like he did. He should go back to the PR dept and they should bring in a baseball guy to run the team, imo.

    Birdwatcher to quote: Sept. 14, 2007 Star Tribune; Jim Pohlad; "We're committed to spending 50-52% of revenue, and with the increase in revenue from the new stadium, there's going to be ample dollars to pay players, It will make a huge difference".

    Jim Pohlad said that when the new stadium was built the payroll would be about 52% of revenue. The last Forbes estimate was $240m. This year they were about 35%. You don't think Mr Pohlad mislead us to get his new cash cow, would he do that?

    Thinking out side the box here. Maddon is only signed thru 2015 and has said he isn't sure he'd re-up. Low payroll, poor stadium and fan support I think play into this. How about making a trade with the Rays for Maddon? The Red Sox did that a couple years ago why not?

    They have to let the new guy or gal pick the coaches and not start out interfering right from the get go.

    A report says they let all the coaches go as well and will look outside and inside for a replacement.

    Most teams seem to be looking for guys up on stats and shifting and a more modern way of managing. Unless Gardy does an about face that isn't him. It will be interesting to see where he goes if he goes. He really should just take a year off and maybe do some TV while collecting his paychecks for the year. Maybe drop a few pounds and recharge his batteries.

    Maybe Arcia is the guy you trade. Homeruns still sell some places. He probably gives up as many runs as he creates but a team with a DH spot might like him. We have more DH types than anything right now.
