  1. At this point, I don't care if someone is all flash or moderate or whether they are "liberal enough." I just want someone who will ensure that we vote Trump/Pence out of office. Let's be honest....As long as Mitch McConnell and the Republicans control the Senate, nothing much is going to get accomplished anyway. It happened to Obama and the same thing is going to happen to whomever is the next Dem elected President. Sadly, the Dems do need to make sure to nominate someone that inspires people to vote. Obviously Hillary didn't do that. If that person is Beto or Biden, then so be it. Need to coalesce around that person. But they cannot get mired in the weeds talking about crap that is going to turn off potential voters or mobilize the other side. Why are they talking about expanding the SCOTUS or abolishing the Electoral College or whether someone is liberal or progressive enough? Just get elected first...
  2. I agree...I don't agree with the skeptics saying "He couldn't even win Texas." He came pretty damn close and that's no small feat for a Democrat there. Not sure if any of you saw the Pete Buttigieg town hall last week, but he was very impressive as well.
  3. Think we need a separate 2020 Presidential Race thread....Gonna be a long and ugly 20 months!
  4. Jan-Michael Vincent, star of 80's TV show 'Airwolf,' died at the age of 74. I had him on my list for 26 points. * He'd been in bad shape for a number of years due to drugs/alcohol and I had him on my list almost every year since 2008. Current Standings 1. AlwaysInModeration - 71 points (F.Ali) 2. Musk21 - 26 points (J-M.Vincent) 3. biggentleben - 23 points (M.Stottlemyre) 3t. lecroy24fan - 23 points (M.Stottlemyre)
  5. Katherine Helmond, actress from 'Soap' and Mona on 'Who's the Boss' died at age 89.
  6. Who's going to be removed from the 40-man roster? Granite? Other possibilities?
  7. Peter Tork, former Monkee, age 77.
  8. I see a lot of people saying (not necessarily in this thread) that Bernie can't win the nomination, but I'm not so sure. His support and money raising capability is strong. And with such a large field, who's to say that he doesn't win a few of those early primaries with so many votes split between all of the other candidates, propelling him to the nomination?
  9. Holding steady at 9 for the 3rd year in a row.
  10. I don't think there's another shutdown. Trump will try using the 'National Emergency' card and then the courts will decide. He'll bank on his Gorsuch/Kavanaugh additions paying dividends.
  11. 71 points for you. Current Standings 1. AlwaysInModeration - 71 points (F.Ali) 2. biggentleben - 23 points (M.Stottlemyre) 2t. lecroy24fan - 23 points (M.Stottlemyre)
  12. https://deadspin.com/high-school-students-bring-trump-2020-flag-to-basketbal-1831844614 Is this just more liberal outrage? Just kids being kids? No hidden meaning behind bringing a MAGA flag to a basketball game between rural Jordan, MN and inner-city Mpls Roosevelt?
  13. LOL, this is a great thread that I am just discovering now. - "Over 40, fellow two-spacer"
  14. 5-time All Star and longtime Mets and Yankees pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre died at the age of 77. Two people had had on their lists for 23 points. Current Standings 1. biggentleben - 23 points (M.Stottlemyre) 1t. lecroy24fan - 23 points (M.Stottlemyre)
  15. Get your lists in today...Could use a few more! Would like to exceed last year's entrants.
  16. For some of us he might better be known as "Super Dave Osborne."
  17. Longtime WWF announcer Mean Gene Okerlund passed away at the age of 76.
  18. Time for the 13th-annual Celebrity Death Pool! Send me your 2019 lists via PM or post it in a reply here. 25 celebrities. Need to be someone fairly well-known. I'll notify you if someone on your list doesn't meet the criteria. Lists are due by Monday, January 7th.
  19. Word is that Mark Kelly, former astronaut, current gun control advocate, and husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords is going to run against her in 2020. That would certainly be formidable opponent for McSally....Kelly is someone that many people know (very important) and respect.
  20. I'd say a good comparison would be pre-VP Joe Biden, who finished 5th in the 2008 Iowa Caucus with 1% of the vote and dropped out of the race. Despite having been a Senator for 34 years, "A September 18, 2007 poll had found that 56% of respondents had not heard enough about Biden to form an opinion about him." I bet Brown will have the same problem.
  21. New CNN Poll out today on 2020 Democractic candidates. Hillary had a HUGE lead on Obama, Edwards, etc. in the early stages of 2008, so I know polls at this point are meaningless, but still interesting. Possible Democratic candidates Dec. 6-9, 2018 Oct. 4-7, 2018 Former Vice President Joe Biden 30% 33% Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders 14% 13% Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke 9% 4% New Jersey Senator Cory Booker 5% 5% California Senator Kamala Harris 4% 9% Former Secretary of State John Kerry 4% 5% Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren 3% 8% Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg 3% 4% Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar 3% 1% Former Attorney General Eric Holder 1% 3% New York Senator Kirstin Gillibrand 1% 1% Montana Governor Steve Bullock 1% * Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown 1% N/A Washington Governor Jay Inslee 1% N/A Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe 1% N/A
  22. Brown would be a fantastic Democratic nominee. He would wipe the floor with Trump in the debates (if Trump even goes through with the debates this time). Would worry that he might get lost among a crowded field of more recognizable names. At this point, if he runs, looking to me that the nominee will be Beto O'Rourke. I think Dems want to replicate the inspiration that Obama brought in 2008.
  23. Former WWE/WWF wrestler Tommy "Kid Dynamite" Billington, perhaps best known as part of the tag team British Bulldogs died today on his 60th birthday. Steve had him for 40 points. Current Standings 1. Musk21 (G.Bush, D.Lima, B.Reynolds, J.McCain, Vader) - 139 pts 2. Pius Jefferson (D.Lima, B.Reynolds, J.McCain, C.Rae, S.Hawking) - 128 pts 3. biggentleben (D.Lima, S.Lee, J.McCain, Mark E. Smith) - 123 points 4. steve (T.Billington, J.McCain, Vader, S.Hawking) - 120 pts 5. lecroy24fan (G.Bush, J.McCain, Vader, B.Bush) - 70 pts 6. Carole Keller (G.Bush, J.McCain, B.Bush, S.Hawking, R.Bannister) - 69 pts 7. GCTF (J.McCain, S.Mikita, S.Hawking) - 65 pts 8. Badsmerf (G.Bush, S.Lee, J.McCain) - 30 pts
  24. 4 of us had the former President for 6 points apiece. Current Standings 1. Musk21 (G.Bush, D.Lima, B.Reynolds, J.McCain, Vader) - 139 pts 2. Pius Jefferson (D.Lima, B.Reynolds, J.McCain, C.Rae, S.Hawking) - 128 pts 3. biggentleben (D.Lima, S.Lee, J.McCain, Mark E. Smith) - 123 points 4. steve (J.McCain, Vader, S.Hawking) - 80 pts 5. lecroy24fan (G.Bush, J.McCain, Vader, B.Bush) - 70 pts 6. Carole Keller (G.Bush, J.McCain, B.Bush, S.Hawking, R.Bannister) - 69 pts 7. GCTF (J.McCain, S.Mikita, S.Hawking) - 65 pts 8. Badsmerf (G.Bush, S.Lee, J.McCain) - 30 pts
  25. Not surprisingly, the Senate refused to allow a vote to protect Mueller: Bill to protect Robert Mueller not allowed a vote on the Senate floor. Senators Flake, Coons, & Booker attempted to force the vote by unanimous consent but it was blocked by Republican Senator Mike Lee. Senate Majority Leader McConnell has argued bill “not necessary”. We keep hearing that firing Mueller would be a 'red line,' but I have seen nothing to indicate that. I don't think anything happens to Trump regardless of what Mueller uncovers.
