  1. Not being a shortstop expert, I hope Lewis can stick there. If he doesn't, the consensus seems to be that the outfield is in his future. Is there a reason that he could not play third base? Is his arm strong enough? Where would he be more valuable if SS is not in his future?
  2. Damn, I am enjoying this thread. Great conversations guys!
  3. I heard or maybe read somewhere that the evolution of the catchers mask is partially responsible for the rash of concussions in recent years. I can't remember where I got it from so there is that. The point of it was that in years pst the catchers used masks with beefier (ie. iron) bars that provided solid protection. The newer masks have lighter weight materials that relieve pressure on the catchers (and umpires) but do not provide the same protection. Having played goalie in hockey, I can tell you that my bell was rung more than once while wearing a hockey mask.
  4. OK, well that is stepping out of the box. Seems like an interesting gambit that the braintrust is gambling on. Hope it works.
  5. Sano being the only viable 3B does not bode well for me. His track record has to say something to the Twins. I do not have any names to throw out, but a big hitting third sacker has to be considered.
  6. I was really hoping Joe would get the Gold Glove for 1st basemen. I don't know that he deserved it, but maybe as a make-up for not winning the year before.
  7. I look at the last three winners and think if I am on the Twins, I would not want this award.
  8. Thanks Tom and the whole new of TD. TD is my go to site for Twins baseball. As for a bar named for Joe at Target Field, how about a 2% milk bar called "Gosh darn it"?
  9. Good write-up Seth. The team is not going anywhere so at least they are finally playing young guys.
  10. Don't forget that Belisle will be available next year....looking for sarcasm font....
  11. I agree that Garver had a bad game, but I think the umpire was really squeezing Gibson the whole game too.
  12. I seem to recall that Duffey finally developed a change-up in AAA this year and that has greatly helped him of late. Who knows if it will help in the future.
  13. I am shocked that Hildy didn't get the 9th inning. (looking for sarcasm font)
  14. We keep hearing that the trade market is a "buyer's market" right now as there are way more sellers than buyers. I think SD is on to something. In my opinion it is too late for this year to challenge Cleveland, but is a great time to buy what we need for next year and beyond. My hope is that any more trades will be about more than gaining iffy prospects 3-5 years away from MLB and more for gaining MLB or near-MLB players that would fill out our needs for the next 2-3 years.
  15. Sure am glad that Gibby went eight innings because the designated snooze inducer Lance Lynn starts tonight and we will need the full bullpen after he throws 90 pitches in the first two innings.
  16. If Mauer comes back, I don't see him in a back-up role. If he is batting .275-.300 and playing GG caliber 1st base, he plays. San would DH.
  17. I have wondered what effect the Home Run Derby has on hitters. Certainly, Sano has many issues but perhaps this could be one. I remember past participants having real trouble with their swings and timing after participating in the derby. With a guy like Sano, that could really be detrimental. Added to that, it could have given him a truly erroneous view of himself and his abilities. Just one more pebble thrown on the rock pile.
  18. The Twins are one injury away from really bad options at catcher. Now is the time to strike a deal. My gut tells me to go the third option for the longer hall but that price is high.
  19. I would enjoy listening to the games when I am out of town. Unfortunately, I no longer subscribe to SM/Sirius sat radio and MLB will not stream radio broadcasts w/o an MLB subscription. I am hardly a millennial but it seems to me that one way to attract a younger audience would be to allow them to receive their broadcasts on the device of their choice.
