  1. It is not realistic to think it is a bad idea ti sign free agents in hopes to trade them? It is not realistic to point out the flaws in someone's argument that you could have a fantastic rotation from rule 5 pickups. You still, along with everyone else, have no clue what contacts Ryan had with other free agents and the discussions or offers made. I am sure that you realize by now not everything goes as you would like. You can't make people like you, you can't make people work for you.
  2. Lara did not even pitch that well in high A ball at age 23. Tampa thought so highly of him they left him unprotected. Although Diamond was a rule 5 pickup it took a trade for a then decent prospect to keep him. Two of your other players still have not pitched at a major league level. Yes it costs little to take a flyer on a player. Shouldn't you have a thorough scouting report so you would not need a flyer? The Twins would have had plenty of views of Lara as they played in many of the same minor leagues?
  3. I don't view myself as a cheerleader but more of a realist. What is the use posting differing viewpoints. The naysayers will see it how they do. Post away on a rant. It doesn't make the rant right that there is nothing there against what you post. It may just mean that there is fatigue in going over the same ground once again.
  4. Liriano hurt his non pitching shoulder before his physical with the Pirates. No physical passed, no deal.
  5. Josh Fields and Randy Wells were never an option for the Twins to draft in the Rule 5 draft. Lobstien has not pitched above AA. All other teams passed on Nova in 2008 as they all had a chance to claim him when San Diego let him go. He had not pitched above high A ball at that time. . Josh Fields has never started in professional baseball.
  6. If Jurrgens' loss of velocity is due to a medical one that would be your answer why no one has signed him. There are no reports out there that I can find.
  7. Gardenhire knows Phil Mankowski. Maybe Mankowski has got something left. Gardenhire has been around so long maybe he can dig up Traynor to play third.
  8. On Bedard, 9/14 games after the first of June. were bad starts. Most of the good starts were in PNC Park. Creepy high FB/HR radio. Did look good beating the Twins. Francis wan't going to go anywhere when he played better in Colorado. In terms of pitchers and payroll, I am sure Ryan would swap Francis for Correia in a minute. Jurrgens went from having a 92-93 FB to an 88. Something is wrong. Somebody differently medically needs to see that guy or Parker needs to get out his video and analyze like he did for Blackburn. If it is mechanics, Twins have two "mechanics" for pitchers. They better start him with the bullpen guy first.
  9. jokin missed the sarcasm.
  10. Levathian made the point that there were people a team signed who could be traded. In that sense Maholm+Correia. I guess I just didn't make it simple enough or you couldn't follow the thread. I guess next time I will have to write it in the minutest detail for you to understand.
  11. Unlikely is not quite stong enough. Beddard's year for bounceback from injury was last year. He was not good. Saunders will sign with any team for a three year deal. Twins need to have luck with signing one of their own pitchers to a three year deal to convince the Pohlads that it is a sound investment.. Francis had a lot of good years in Colorado, bad once he left. He had a good year when he returned. I don't think he wanted to go elsewhere. His year in the AL. was bad. Jurrgen's velocity keeps dropping. He might be an injury waiting to happen. He might just need a different training staff than Atlanta. Braden had capsule surgery then more work late last year. Probably why there is no news is rehab could still be ongoing and he still is not even thinking of pitching. Probably a great pickup for 2014.
  12. The love fest for Oakland will be interesting. Second year pitchers, was the first year a fluke ? Colon off steroids, McCarthy off the team. There is no certainty. Interesting that A.J. Griffin is the only starter they developed. The rest were acquired through trades. If, when, Mays, Meyers and Worley works out Ryan will get the love Beane does. Tampa Bays ships two pitchers off. Baltimore far exceeded expectations. The top of the list well could be in the middle.
  13. Other than Dempster signing with Boston, Jackson signing with Chicago, no above average pitcher has signed with a below average team. Marcum and Lohse are all that are left.
  14. I now understand the Frasor comment.
  15. There has been plenty here for you to remember.
  16. Mickey Story? When was that? a few months ago? Amusing that you would remember that. I am so touched you remember what I write.. Not really. You really remember what people write in detail? Wow.
  17. Robertson is a lefty. Different role.
  18. Backloaded to make him untradeable after this year. A good enough peripherals to maybe have gotten closer to 30 And you can still go to Kramarczuks on East Hennepin and eat your sorrows away.
  19. Be frustrated that they are not signing players with upside rather than scrap heap recycled below average pitchers that may be slightly better than the Twins. Sign a Sean West type and hope everything works out. Be upset that Dozier and Floriman are right now the next couple years future at MI. That I understand.
  20. Yes. Any player knows that unless they have a no trade contract they can be traded at any time. Any fan knows that. The point I should have made clear is that it is neither a common practice nor a good practice to do that with people you are essentially recruiting to come work for you. When a player gets somewhere, they or the team might not find they are a fit. Hollins was an example of that. So long ago I forgot the details. Guthrie got traded to Colorado. It was not a fit. Life was so good once he got to KC, he really did not appear to test the free agent waters.
  21. But you are arguing that signing almost anyone to a contract is worth something. Broxton had value to establish as a closer. Frasor does not have that value. He was not primary set up guy for the closer. To sign someone to use as a chip for prospects is hardly practical. If you overbid the Rangers by a significant amount to get him, kept him for a half a year, you would be buying a low level prospect for 1/4 million. (Assuming Frasor would have replaced a minimum wage scrub the Twins have a few of). As a way to get talent, that gets expensive. Broxton was a 4 mil contract. That gets to be expensive prospects you are buying.
  22. Sanchez was not eligible to be a free agent last year. He was obtained by KC from the Giants. McGehee was not a free agent signed and traded, he was initially dealt to Pittsburg., Jeremy Guthrie was not signed as free agent from Baltimore, he was traded to Colorado. So 3/5 wrong. Broxton signed with KC after having an injury plagued season. Broxton netted KC 2 "C" prospects. Twins version of Broxton would be Pelfrey. Maholm toiled as a mediocre pitcher in Pittsburg. Once escaped, he put together a good season. The Twins version of Maholm would be Correia. The Twins are doing as you would like them to. You should consider yourself wise as to what the Twins are really trying to do. You should be the happiest person in the world that these players were signed and singing their praises.
  23. Dave Hollins was 16 years ago. Otis Nixon was signed and never traded. It was his second to the last as a major league player, last year with a starting role. Again, if it was something that was done regularly you could remember a more recent example of a flipped player, or an incident that actually happened.
  24. What player signs saying they really wanted to play for another team? When you make that sort of claim, proof would be nice. Yes player are signed all of the time to short contracts to fill holes. While they all know they can get traded, that is hardly likely their intent for signing a contract. But you are 100% right on everything you sat and everyone else is just an idiot in comparison.
  25. I do not disagree with you on that there is talent out there better than what the Twins have. Probably disagree on the value of that talent. Players traded in the past were signed to fill holes on the team. Hollins was traded when he was not working out. Roberto Kelly played here a year and a half before he was traded. That is a far different than singing a player in the hopes of trading them. See Miami for what that does for the integrity of the organization. Otis Nixon left after one year via free agency. Although it was probably as good of year as he ever had anywhere, I don't think the Twins got a draft pick for him. Just for accuracy in claims If signing talent is flipable than the Correia signing can never be bad because you can flip him for a good prospect. (Jab Jab, wink wink. Need a bigger clue that I am throwing it out there just to poke at you?)
