  1. My comment was half frustration and half not understanding the purpose. I assumed he would be filler, but what would he be filling? Don't the Miracle have a 7 man rotation now with Davies in it? Wheeler, Summers, Duffey, Tomshaw, Rodgers, Soliman, and Davies. Or is Rodgers back on the DL, or Summers back in NB? I'm sure I am mistaking. I am just trying to better understand the process for the minors. I'm still learning, I guess. Thanks for helping me understand.
  2. Can't wait to hear them. I hope that there will be major movements throughout the minors, not just the lower levels.
  3. What value do the Twins see in Kyle Davies? He is nearly 30, he as had no success in the majors. In 7 major league seasons he has had only 2 years in which he has had an ERA under 5. He doesn't strike out many and walks too many. His best WHIP in the majors was 1.45. He seems to be taking starts away from other players who could use the experience. Why is he in our system?
  4. I wasn't able to pay attention to the game last night but when I went and watched the highlights this morning I seen the play that Clete was called out on. Why does there seem to be a play like that in every series and almost every game against the Yankees? The ump was in perfect position on that play. He made a terrible call. But this is just starting to get ridiculous with the frequency of these calls being made when we play the Yankees. Anyone else getting extremely annoyed by this?
  5. Agreed! Those are very interesting numbers. I do tend to agree that Fien (if he could bring back a decent prospect/player) would be good to let go. Hopefully Tonkin would be able to take over his role for the rest of the year. I also like your take on letting some no-future starters take their 2 decent pitches to the pen and see what happens. They may save their career like Perkins.
  6. I have a problem with BABIP (luck) as a stat. If a pitcher isn't a strikeout pitcher he had better have a low BABIP or he is going to be out of the league. I like Jeremy Hellickson's take on this, “Yea, I just got lucky on the mound,” Jeremy Hellickson says dryly. “A lot of lucky outs … I hear it; it’s funny,” Hellickson said, not quite sure of the acronym. “I thought that’s what we’re supposed to do, let them put it in play and get outs. So I don’t really understand that. When you have a great defense, why not let them do their job? I’m not really a strikeout pitcher; I just get weak contact and let our defense play … I can either handle my business or I don’t …” I pitcher is expected to get outs and alot of times that is by a hit ball. I love WHIP as a stat because it displays a pitchers effectiveness as in sticking to the strike zone while not throwing up pitches that players can easily detect and hit. One thing that could be added with BABIP is "the eye test." How hard were the out BIP? How great was the defense? The thing that makes Deduno so effective with the Twins is batters inability to get a clean hit on the ball, they usually result in grounders back to him or slow grounders in the infield. Is he lucky or just pitching well enough to keep hitters off-balance and from having the BIP hit clean and hard?
  7. Over Duffey's last 2 starts he has regained some of his form from CR. He hasn't been spectacular by any means but he has made some improvements. In his start on July 2nd, he pitched 7 innings. The good news: he gave up 4 hits and only 1 walk with no runs scored. The bad: he didn't record a strikeout. That doesn't scream future success (see BJ Hermsen). In his latest start (July 9th) Duffey took one step forward.... and 1/2 step back. He did strike out nearly a batter per inning, 5 K's over 6 innings. He gave up 5 hits and a walk with 2 runs allowed. Duffey should make his next start on the 14th. He may be better suited for the bullpen but right now it is too early to tell. He hasn't even had a full year as a starter yet. It takes time to develop into a starter. More than a starter turning into a reliever. Let's give him time to develop an work on his approach with 2 strikes in the count. It should also be noted that the current Twins management doesn't put much stock in strikeouts as long as the pitcher is getting ground balls and eating innings. There is no reason right now to think that the Twins will be moving Tyler to the pen in the near future.
  8. This really has wheels already?! Wow. This is why I love TD. Good information and excited on a topic that is 11 months away. I am almost giddy with excitement for the next draft. I love keeping an eye on the farm just as much as watching the Twins.
  9. Kohl went 3 innings striking out 3 while scattering 1 hit and no walks.
  10. Is it possible with as much range and ability that dozier has shown that he could move back to short? His defense wasn't really a question going through the minors. Last year things kind of snowballed on him and he just seemed to take his problems with him wherever he went.
  11. Kohl Stewart GCL start- 2 innings 2 hits 1 run 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. Call him up!
  12. Maybe he was thinking Polanco, not Goodrum?
  13. There is a seperate thread for this already started. Check it out. http://twinsdaily.com/twins-minor-league-talk/7397-kohl-stewart-s-first-start.html
  14. I didnt expect it because it just seemed so obvious that he is currently in no way at the top of his game and that you would be feeding him to the Yankees bats. I guess a simple answer to your question is, "I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he knew better." I was clearly mistaking. I'm not a Gardy basher, I think this team could use some change, though ( I don't me Ulger which is probably what it would be). I was just severely dissapointed that he put Burton out there when any betting man would say that he was the least likely of all the Twins bullpen arms (minus Pressly?) to get out of that inning with a zero on the board.
  15. I was thinking that Burton might be battling an undisclosed injury yesterday. He just doesnt seem right (more than just struggling?).
  16. I thought that 8th inning was the perfect time to see what Caleb was made of. He should have came in to face Cano. I knew it wasn't going to happen but I honestly didn't expect Gardy to run Burton back out there either. Was Gardy to afraid to let one slip so he went to his ol' reliable Burton/Perkins? Caleb would have had to face Cano(lefty) Wells(righty) and Hafner(lefty). We don't know that he can handle himself in key spots like this, but of course, we will never know if he is never put in that spot.
  17. This is a very exciting day! Can't wait to see Gibson pitch. I hope he can give us some hope that we have someone that can stick in the front half of the rotation for years.
  18. Question. Do the twins consider Mark Prior? He was just released and had only pitch just over 9 innings. He did have 9 strikeouts and a 4.66 era. He has been on the shelf but he may be a guy worth looking at. He's still "somewhat" young and if he could regain some of what he was (Kazmir) he would be a fair 4-5 starter for our roster. Thoughts? (I haven't given it much of a thought myself so don't feel you are squashing my dreams if you burn this post)
  19. In Duffey's last 2 starts he has pitched 11 1/3 innings giving up five runs in each start. He has kept the BB down with just 2 walks in those starts. He had also had 7 strikeouts. Duffey's problem is hits. With 21 hits over the 11 1/3 innings, Tyler is either getting a healthy does of bad luck and the balls are dropping or he is showing that he is leaving pitches up in the zone.
  20. Buxton had an RBI in his first game as well.
  21. I just figured that if parmelee can play a decent RF so could Arcia and wouldnt Hicks speed be better served in LF? Maybe I'm wrong, that was just my thought process.
  22. Buxton-CF Rosario-2B Mauer-1B Arcia-RF Sano-3B Pinto-C Parmelee/Plouffe-DH Hicks-LF Santana/Mejia/Dozier-SS It would be very young but not unreasonable. I wonder if that team could compete that year or if you would have to wait a year or 2 for development? I really dont think the Twins need to sign a single bat in the offseason. If they do you are only blocking talented players from roster spots. They can trade Morneau/Willingham/Doumit for pitching prospects at this trade deadline and use filler from AAA or AA until most are ready. I just want them to stick any money they would spend this offseason into pitching. Even if its just one pitcher. Isn't the future outlook of the players listed above along with a healthy long-term deal enough to draw some of the best pitching talent here?
  23. Very nice read. Though I hope you're right, the twins have a hard time leaving a pitcher in once he reaches 100 pitches. It doesn't really matter how well they are pitching ( was that Slowey or Blackburn that they took out after 8 no-hit innings). My belief is that the twins believe in hard set numbers more then the rest of the league. They get caught up in what you mentioned above (the birth certificate reference). I'm not a Twins conspiracy guy, I don't believe that they are out to make us miserable, I just believe that they are the type of front office that would set a limit.
  24. I am aware. Just thought that some might not access those apps or sites to see for themselves. If they happened to be on twinsdaily they could check in for an update.
  25. Sano struck out.
