  1. I'm not as high on Wacha as most. Above average fastball, plus to plus-plus change up, but a average curve shouts mid rotation starter to me. His numbers have been good but I worry he won't be more than a #3 if his curve doesn't develop. I value upside. Wheeler/Syndergaard combo I didn't consider because there is a good chance Wheeler will go over his rookie eligibility and won't be considered a prospect by the end of the year. If he doesn't than yeah, throw them in there. As for Appel/McCullers I just don't see it being a better combo. Call it a personal preference. McCullers's mechanics and lack of a third pitch scares me.
  2. I forgot about Mayo's ranking so i guess we are both right (wrong?). Jim Callis and Law both had Stewart at 30. Callis has Meyers at 32 while Law has him at 38. I might be biased but I just don't see many pairs I like better than Meyer/Stewart. Bundy/Gausman would be better if Bundy wasn't out for a year+. Cole/Tallion but Cole will lose his prospect status this year. Gray/Butler maybe. Skaggs and Hutlzen have taken a step back so their paring with Walker and Bradley isn't as impressive.
  3. Half the teams in baseball have two pitchers in the top 30-40 prospects in baseball? I'm not very good at math but if you add in all the bats, in say the top 50, I don't see it.
  4. I never claimed he will be our 2B for the next decade. I just don't see the value of throwing $30+ million on a 26 year old 2B who hasn't played in a game in a year and a half. Maybe I'm jaded by the Nishi signing but I'm just not a fan of this guy.
  5. I'm not a fan. If he could actually play SS I would want the Twins to go for him. Dozier will do just fine bridging the 2B spot till Rosario is ready next year.
  6. Stewart cut his foot and hasn't pitched in a week so. He is a start or two behind Gonsalves.
  7. Great news! A lot of us thought he was a steal when we drafted him and he has looked great so far. The Twins system lacks high upside LH pitching like Gonsalves.
  8. Draft notes from Mr.Law's chat: Confusion is mine, but "Beede will go below where the Jays will pick".... as in he's rated higher or lower than the Jays 'projected' draft spot? Klaw (2:23 PM) Jays will pick high, and he wouldn't be ranked that high on my board right now. Who has the better stuff Appel or Rodon? I know the draft is a long way off but is Rodon a no brainer for Houston? Klaw (1:04 PM) Rodon has the better slider. Appel has better command and a better change. If the draft were today, Rodon would be a no-brainer, but a lot can happen in ten months, including changes in health.
  9. Adjusting to the bigs is hard. Give them time.
  10. Stewart Meyers Berrios May Eades Gonsalves Everyone else
  11. Buxton fouled off a ball onto his foot and had to remove a toe nail. After playing in pain for three weeks he finally couldn't take it anymore and is resting to let it heal. Not sure how much longer he will be out but it is nothing major.
  12. I don't understand what you are saying. Why would you expect Perkins to get a comparable package? Fransisco Rodriguez got the O's #4 prospect which was considered an overpay. Most experts see the Veras trade as even because both gain something from it. Thornton had mixed opinions depending on what you think of Jacobs and we have no idea what the Crain-trains return is.
  13. Cash consideration. We needed a roster spot and we clear/add a little cash into the owners pockets.
  14. While I can't disagree with this theory I also can't agree to it because I have never seen evidence either way. What I do know after following Hicks minor league career is that he has always been a slow starter, switch hitters historically are, and develops slow. These traits have both been made more evident with his major league performance. I believe Hicks bloated spring training numbers got people prematurely excited. Arcia has always had a more advanced bat but his positional value, or lack there of, has always hurt him. As long as Hicks shows improvement developmentally then he deserves to stay with the big league club. We just need to find room for Arcia.
  15. There are at least a 100 threads that go into fine detail about Hicks poor start of the year and how since then he has played better. While he has stalled at the ~.200 line he has shown improvements offensively and defensively as the year has gone by. The Twins were/are going to be bad with or without him playing CF. He has already passed the chance to save his service time so what is the point of sending a kid down who is making adjustments? We could also look at what the "expert" scouts have suggested. Law, Callis, Sickels, and J.J. Cooper have all said Hicks deserves to take his lumps in the majors even though he was rushed to the bigs. While the fact if they are experts or are qualified to say this could be debated, the fact they are more qualified than an average fan cannot. Also, the fact the Twins have kept Hicks in the bigs suggests they see it too.
  16. Crain was on the DL when traded, Vera's is a RH RP having a career year, and while Thornton is a lefty he is 36 and not the same pitcher he used to be. How do any of these guys make a fair comparison to Perkins? Perkins is 30, LH, putting up better numbers, and has a good contract. He wasn't bringing in a top 10 prospect but he would have brought in a nice package. Experts before the trade deadline and after the deadline suggested that teams would and were lined up at the door to try and trade for him. Not only did Ryan not aggressively shop him to see what we could get but he turned teams away. When you are as bad as us you have to listen to everyone. Hopefully this doesn't turn into Willingham 2.0.
  17. Using stats is obviously the only way to decide development and ability.
  18. I never claimed to know what was offered. I was just pushing forward what Bowden said. Also, multiple sources have come out and said Ryan wasn't willing to eat much, if any, of Morny's salary even though the owners of the team have said we are under budget.
  19. Yeah, that's all he said. You know if Bowden said your GM did bad, he did bad. Holding onto Willingham last year in a weak hitters market and Perkins this year in a weak RPer market. If you can't get a good offer is one thing, but being passive/telling people you are not trading them is another. (P.S. usually around Xmas insider goes on sale cheap. The past two years I have spent $15 and $10 bucks on it).
  20. From ESPN's Jim Bowden's article where he graded the GMs at the dead line: Ryan stubbornly refused to trade hometown boy Glen Perkins, which was probably a mistake for this rebuilding club. And the Twins' inability to eat salary is why Justin Morneau didn't get moved to a club like the Orioles. They were way too quiet considering how much improvement they need. I almost never agree with Bowden, like ever, be he nailed it. Link: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-office/post?id=7271
  21. I believe Seth reported he had a minor injury and will miss a few games. Nothing major.
  22. A tweet from Darren Wolfson shows exactly why Ryan never gets anything done at the trade deadline: Ryan admitted he only started making a lot of calls in the last 24-48 hours. He's more a phone call taker. Should've changed this year.
  23. O's finishing up a Bud Norris trade. Unless their GM can talk on the phone with two people Morny isn't going to the O's.
  24. I have been pretty happy with May. If you follow his pitching lines closely he has thrown really well but seems to always have one bad inning (usually caused by a spike in walks). I could see him being an Edward Jackson type pitcher.
