  1. Is anybody else crossing their fingers that Frankie gets through this inning?
  2. Wow! Just how big is this guy's strike zone when the Twins are batting?
  3. We'll see if Frankie comes out for the sixth. If he does, I bet they have a reliever ready to go, just in case, and pull him at the first sign of trouble. Our experience with Liriano this year is when it goes south, it goes south quickly and badly.
  4. Looks like Frankie is starting to lose it - c'mon, Drew, work your magic!
  5. Boy, we could have used that last inning - I'll take it now, though!
  6. OK, time for the Twins to get 3-4 runs so the pressure won't all be on Liriano.
  7. The only complaint I have is that it seems like all Plouffe's homers are solo shots - anybody got any stats on this?
  8. Looks like Plouffe has found his groove again.
  9. Actually, you can say that about most of the people on the roster these days.
  10. *sigh* Is this going to turn into another "I hate Butera" thread?
  11. Quite correct - which is why nobody else will offer him that either. The door is open to renegotiating his contract for next year.
  12. Now that Cole DeVries has been sent back down, after one day (and a fine performance on the mound), we can assess just what it was worth, at least to DeVries - not quite $900/hour for the time he spent pitching yesterday. I assume he's getting the major league minimum ($480,000/year), and it is prorated over his time actually spent on the roster (1 day out of roughly 180 in the season). That comes out to his latest stint in the majors earning him roughly $2,666. Figure the average game time is about 3 hours, that comes out to roughly $888/hour (yes, I know there is preparation and practice time involved, but I'm ignoring that - they don't get paid for spring training either). As my father used to say, "Nice gig if you can get it!"
  13. Does it count if it's two different teams (Twins? Millers?)
  14. I was driving up to the north shore on Thursday and listening on the radio; there was an interesting discussion with Jim Souhan about Mauer and Morneau, about why Mauer is hated by so many fans and why Morneau has basically gotten a pass, even though based on performance Mauer is far outstripping Morneau. Some of the conclusions/conjectures: The price tag - $14M is easier to swallow than $23M; Morneau gave the appearance of trying harder to get back on the field after injury (I emphasize appearance, not necessarily reality); and Morneau just has a more likeable personality - Mauer is more guarded with the media and just can't win people over with ease like Morneau can.
  15. I think you either send Blackburn down to Rochester (if able) or put him in the bullpen. I don't see what is to be gained by DFAing him. You're still stuck with the salary (unless someone takes him on waivers, which is unlikely), and it's not as if there are hot pitchers in Rochester waiting for their chance.
  16. Out of curiosity, why the statement that Greinke would not do well in a big market? And even if that might be the case, does that necessarily mean he won't go to a big market? The lure of big money could overcome any uncertainties he might have.
  17. This is easily DeVries' best start of the year - good to see him break through. You wonder, though, if his night is done. This is the longest he's gone into a game in the majors, and maybe it's time to turn it over to the bullpen, which is rested.
  18. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he did, but I could be mistaken.
  19. I concur. I've said elsewhere that maybe we should send Blackburn back down - he still has an option left and has not yet reached the 5-year mark.
  20. ...while sitting on the bench. Ugh, I hate that.
  21. Actually, I was quoting the movie "Major League," the Indians fan in the stand when Wild Thing gave off a mammoth blast.
  22. Heard Gardy on the pregame for the first game - he's saving Butera for tomorrow for Liriano.
  23. They got Perk up when Diamond was struggling in the eighth, when the lead was only four and there were two on base with one out. I'm guessing they decided, as long as he was already warmed up, better to just use him rather than warm up someone else. In any case, he only threw a handful of pitches, so he is probably avaiable in the evening game as well, if necessary.
  24. A pitcher who gave up a HR to Mastroianni? I assume this is for batting practice, right?
